A Successful Tripple 9's Build

After much deliberation I finally built a non-rebuilding triple nines build that uses the main casting lists. Keep in mind depending on your position on requirements checking, it might be possible to do this much, much easier. However I think I speak for most players when they would (for whatever reason) more or less follow the stump the sage ruling that rebuilding can't be used to get something not otherwise possible.

Also on the main casting lists, I know it is possible to create a triple 9s build using the Ardent ML trick. But that is not the point of the true golden 0 to 9th level divine casting, arcane casting, and psionic manifesting. To truly have the cream of the crop you have to have full access to the main lists: wizard, cleric, psion since bard, druid, and psy war have fewer and weaker spells.

The reason the main cream of the crop triple 9's is so elusive is you basically get almost everything and loose pretty much nothing. Well here at the CO, that's what we do.

Psion 1, Beholder Mage 1, Cerebremancer 9, Ur-Priest, Psychic Theurge 8

This build can be any regular humanoid and be reincarnated into Quinametin = LA2 with 1 HD which can be a class level instead of the 1HD. Buyoff the LA.

Psychic Theurge can be found here http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/psm/20040925b and Cerebremancer can be found here http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/SRD:Cerebremancer.

Cheesiness Warning: It requires some good circumstances like:
1. Though this build can start with ANY RACE it uses a specific sized and HD ranged race for reincarnation (in this case I found an okay one from a dragon mag... but its really not all that great a race)
2. It burrows (read: have access earlier than can be bought) 3 items for prereqs but it can easily later pay it back plus some
3. It uses a custom major bloodline to provide a specific feat at its psuedo level 2. After that, the bloodline doesn't really matter.
4. A friend (or friendly enough NPC) to manifest chirurgery, but keep in mind this is only for a temporary prereq and in no way effects the end of the build. (If the chirurgery were to be undone later than level 3, it wouldn't make a difference)

The above could be easily rectified by having a party member who is about 9 levels up (and either nice enough or capitalist enough to loan you some dough).

The Full Feat Breakdown
The Wildshape Amulet (MoF) is for feats prereqs [WS as druid 5] ... rent to own anyone?

1 abberant blood, flaw=abberant wild shape, flaw=Proportionate Wild Shape,

psion1=overchannel
2[bloodlines] assume supernatural ability (Antimagic Cone)
Borrow Aquamarine of Spell Extending (3.7k) to get a metamagic feat
Borrow Torc of Power Preservation so we can (with overchannel) manifest 2nd level powers at level 2
metamagic storm=Sanctuary spell
3 assume supernatural ability (eye rays)
6 iron will
9 malign spell focus
12 x [practiced manifestor seems unneeded]
15 x [can practiced spellcaster even apply? I'm lazy by now]
18 x [practiced spellcaster again?]

Level and Feat Summary:
Borrow wildshape amulet
Psion 1
Reincarnate (druid 4 spell) costs 1280
Beholder Mage 1
Borrow aquamarine of spell extending
Soak up a metamagic storm
Borrow Torc of Power Preservation
psychic chirurgery twice (13060gp, 2000xp) for 2nd level powers
Cerebremancer 8
Ur-Priest 1
Psychic Theurge 8

On the manifesting side you end up with 3 1st level powers and 30 powers of any level (I think). Another 22 and a half percent more doesn't really matter when you already have 280pp, especially when you have nine times your int mod in bonus pp (10x after practiced manifestor if you really want). Full BM casting is yummy: 5 9th levels and 6 of all lower level spells. The last level of ur-priest is almost dead so its really not worth it, since your 9th level divine casting will mainly come from bonus spells (6/5/4/4/4/4/3/2/1/0 rather than 6/5/5/4/4/4/4/3/2/1). Bonus Ninth level spells come with a wisdom score of 28,36,44, etc. It shouldn't be too hard to pick up a few.

So what does everyone think? Next time you join a campaign half-way through with a few nice friends and a DM who doesn't mind some min-maxing try this out and let me know [Yes this is build #5 from the link in my sig, I simply posted here upon Sureal's advice for everyone's benefit. Enjoy!]

Maybe you want to check my variant here. It has no rebuilding and no dependence on circumstances.
Enjoy

Very nice alternative. Notice though that this build has 2nd, 3rd & 4th level arcane spells and the triple 9s are in the main casting lists.

Also no ardent ML trick is needed (though there are two temporary instances of chirurgery)
Ardent 5/Ur-priest 2/Psychic Theurge 4/Beholder Mage 1/Mystic Theurge 3/Cerebremancer 4/Mystic Theurge +1

is a perfectly workable triple nine that surreal came up with a while back in the simple question/answer thread. Note that that isn't the exact build progression, I believe it goes into MT first then Ur-priest.

Hehe if you go back to see who surreal was answering it was me! Because I mentioned how I had a triple 9's build (and later I clarified that it was from the main casting lists). Sorry for taking so long to post this, I was busy at the brilliant gameologists site with my dirty handbook fixes here.

So...looked up Quinametin in Dragon Magazine #317.  Very interesting way to get a large humanoid, however, it specifically indicates it has : hd 2d8+2 (11), in the stat block.  If that is the case, your build goes BOOM and doesn't work.

As it is, I can see : Psion 1, Beholder Mage 1, Cerebremancer 8, Ur-Priest 1, Psychic Theurge 8 (a total of 19 levels).

This gives you Manifester Level of 17 for 9th lvl powers via Psion, 9th lvl arcane access via Beholder Mage who gains spells like a Wizard but casts like a Sorcerer (very nice!), and 9th lvl divine access via Ur-Priest.

However, it only gives you 1 lvl to play with, and since the race you want to turn into has 2 HD, I don't see how you can pull this off.

You might be able to pull the Half-Minotaur templated from DR 313 with a +1 LA.  Out of the stats it modifies, it does give a -2 to Int, but I'm sure that can be compensated for.  In which case, you don't even need LA buy-off, you could be a Human with that template, giving you a free feat at lvl 1, which you could use to get the Assume Supernatural Ability (Antimagic Cone).

Further problem might be the idea that you lose access to a prestige class if you no longer meet the requirements.  My reason for mentioning this is that you get into the Beholder Mage PrC by being a True Beholder AND putting out your central antimagic cone eye.  Ok, so you wildshape into one, since you are large, using the wildshape amulet, abberant wildshape, and proportionate wildshape.  You gain the antimagic cone eye with the Assume Supernatural Ability (Antimagic Cone).  While wildshaped, you put out your central eye and gain the 1 level of Beholder Mage.

You aren't going to be a Beholder forever, however.  So what happens when you shift back?  You are no longer a True Beholder, let alone what happens to that central eye you put out in that ritual while you were a beholder.  If you aren't a True Beholder, you can't be a Beholder Mage (or have access to its abilities) again until you become a True Beholder again.  If you do, with the wildshape amulet again, will you have to put out your eye again?

HOLY SHNICKIES THIS IS THE BIGGEST THREAD NECROMANCY EVER IN THE HISTORY OF THE INTERNET!

"last post 3 years ago" rofl. The current version of the build is in my Thread and Build Compendium.

you just got incredibly lucky. I haven't checked this board in over a year. We are all over at Brilliant Gameologists (Min/Max it!). This board is slow and ugly.

anyways, this is an old build. Yes I later realized the RHD though I thought I mentioned level draining, which allows the build. Anyways yes half-minotaur works as does half-giant (the next page). Technically any race without LA could do it with a lovely ring (seeing as how we are bending WBL anyways)

on the WS end, the answer is simple: you never let the duration end. WS into a beholder a round before the duration is up. Forever.

(man giggle)

iirc - one of the last threads that got started over at bg, was basically about this.
and semi-crossposted community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/758...

Someone posted a new way to get to Illithid Savant
using Shifter and - iirc - two feats near 1st level, maybe 3rd.
That could easily be used to get into Beholder Mage.
My bet is it would be weaker than the standard 1x or 2x PAO.
But because you could get there so soo early, it might be good anyway.
