hello all, I have been reading through a few of the books and am trying currently to come up with a decent tank class using the gestalt rules for a game I will be in

I'm a little stuck

I assume Knight is a good class to have but I'm not sure on what else would compliment it, I have been looking at incarnate or totemist, is there anyone out there who could give me advice and such

and as for race I was originally going to use on of the races in "races of the dragon" or Warforged but if I where to use Incarnate or totemist would Skarn be better?

thank you for the help.

You could try human or azurin gestalt knight/marshal.

Crusader is THE tank class.  If ur gestalting I would mix it with 2 lvls of fighter, maybe some Psi-war with vigor and share pain....

If you plan on casting put full cleric on one side add in some RKV, and presto.

By tank I assume you mean party protector/damage mitigator.  If by tank you mean it is difficult to hurt you, then a whole different type of build is in order

yup I mean damage mitigator, basically a class that gets the enemy to attack me and such.

also isnt marshal a homebrew class? afraid I cant use those, what book is crusader in?

thank you for the help.

also may I ask what RKV is? I'm pretty new still so i dont really understand the abreviations.

again, thank you.

Marshal is a base class from the Miniatures Handbook.

Crusader (base class) and RKV (Ruby Knight Vindicator -- PrC) are both from ToB (Tome of Battle).

thanks for the help all, would knight work well with crusader for a tank or would i be better going for knight/marshal or knight/totemist?

could i also ask what would be a good rave with a +0 level adjustment

Leave Knight out entirely, Crusader one-ups Knight in everything and then some.

Gestalt tanking is not too hard. Try Cloistered Cleric//Crusader or something along those lines. Even if you are opposed to taking a spellcasting class on the other side of the build, do dump Knight.

I second the "dump Knight", it really is not worth it. If you're looking at Incarnum then maybe Crusader// Incarnate might work. Otherwise for some weird fun if you don't necessarily want a caster, maybe Crusader//Binder. If you don't mind psionics, Warblade//Psion is very nice.

hi all, thanks for the help, I took a look at the crusader class but I didn't like the random probability that comes along with it (for which maneuvers you get I mean) and I like how a tank calls out the enemy's and can just get them all to attack her, it seems like the better of the two for holding the enemy's attention, especially in a high damaging group.

I did an example with the totemic class and using a half dragon/skarn race (using the variable half dragon class rules on page 70 of the races of the dragon book) and the character seems excellently qualified to hold the line.

Grab 3 levels for the Bullwark of Defense ability then take Physic Warrior from there on that side and on the other side pick a full caster and stick to it. Grab powers, spells, and feat that increase reach or knock people down. Grab defensive sweep as soon as you can. All of these things are to force the opponents to seek you out so you stop hitting them(and knocking them on their butt in the process).

Maybe you can grab some other feats that fit(like Goad from Complete Warrior).

Little complicated for a newbie like me hehe, I will however keep that in mind for my next character, so thank you very very much.

Could anyone suggest feats and any magical items that they think would be a great addition to my half dragon Skarn Knight/totemist? any any advice would be greatly appreciated.

oh one quick question, where do I find the rules for dragon breath weapons (as in the damage they do) for a half dragon? I have looked through the races of the dragon book and cant find any information on the damage they do.

Monster Manual pg. 147 has all the information on the half-dragon template.  6d8 damage, with a reflex save for half. Save DC is 10 + 1/2 racial HD + Con mod.

Hood.  Add Crusader or Warblade to one side of the gestalt and you have a simple way to ensure your allies are threatened if you aren't doing your job.

Also, see the gestalt section of Hood on the Hood page.
