| #1mark1975May 04, 2008 12:07:10 | I'm looking for Anything and everything to get my AC as high as i can with spells. Anjurant Chmp says anything with Armor Bonus or Shield Bonus. Like what the description says. I'm afraid that since the spell Mage Armor is a Conjuration spell it will not work with the Abjurant Armor Class ability. Can anyone help me? Mark |
| #2alastarMay 04, 2008 12:10:48 | whats that thing called in BOED, luminous armor or something? abjuration level 3 and gives 8 AC, as well as lower melee attacks by -4. Also, polymoprh into something fun, like a wartroll, an ent, a sword archon. They all have very high natural armor bonuses. Dragonskin and spiderskin from SpC are both some nice spells too. Shield is a good AC spell. A good abjuration spell is protection from evil, with abjurant champion it gives a 7 bonus to deflection AC, agaisnt evil attackers. |

But im sure that all those spells listed will not fall under the Abjurant Armor class ability besides Shield. It stats only Armor and Shield Bonuses to AC. Not deflection or natural armors. Any other ideas? Thanks Mark |
| #4proof100_dupMay 04, 2008 12:33:30 | Luminous Armor (lvl2) and Greater Luminous Armor(lvl4) are in the book of exhalted deeds. They are abj, armor spells and great for AC. The lvl2 version gives 5ac and a -4 to hit melee, at a cost of 1d2 str, and the lvl4 version gives 8 ac plus the melee bonus for 1d3 str. Clearly full of AC win. |
| #5rebel7284May 04, 2008 12:34:22 | luminous armor is level 2 IIRC, you need greater luminous armor. ![]() That and shield will give you armor and shield bonuses, however, since bonuses with the same type don't stack, you don't need to look any further... |
| #6mark1975May 04, 2008 12:37:09 | luminous armor is level 2 IIRC, you need greater luminous armor. Im not sure but i think my DM says BoED is considered 3.0 and not 3.5. (Pls Correct him if he is wrong). Is there anything else? |
| #7alastarMay 04, 2008 12:42:27 | My other bonuses did not fit with abjurant champion, but still provide you with higer AC wich is waht your after. A polymorph can easily net you +15 to AC, and dragonskin another +5. Cast a swift (throught swift abjuration) scintillating scales in battle and suddenly, your hard to hit with rays too. |
| #8wwad_dupMay 04, 2008 12:45:00 | You're concentrating on ONE aspect of the Abjurant Champion--and it's not even a good one. Yes you get a little boost from Shield (in most campaigns) and that's it. The other reasons to play AbC is for the BAB=CL, better hp, and swift Abj spells. If you don't like those either, don't play one. |

If you don't like those either, don't play one. I don't think i'm concentrating on ONE aspect ofthe AC. I fully understand the main strengths of the class but am trying to shore up some weaknesses and get the most AC out of 2-3 Spells i can. I like the Polymorph Idea also. |
| #10Treantmonklvl20May 04, 2008 12:52:05 | Swift action abjuration spells up to level 3 make me drool. However, as mentioned - Greater luminous Armor and Shield will take care of your AC completely. Your AC will be awsome - and that shield spell is a swift action. The BAB CL is good for a Gish build. However, AC is still a great PrC for a full caster, non-meleer as well. Lots of great abilities with an AC. |
| #11alphathegreatMay 04, 2008 13:23:23 | Any time you cast an abjuration spell that grants you an armor bonus or shield bonus to AC, you can increase the value of the bonus by your abjurant champion class level. Abjurant champions rely on mage armor, shield, and similar spells instead of actual armor. There's a strong case to be made to your DM(in case BoED is not an option): although the ability specifies abjuration spells, the example lists mage armor as a stock spell for this ability. I think you could easily convince most DMs that this ability ought to include mage armor spells, as that seems to be the intent of the authors, even if they didn't think it all the way through. |
| #12rebel7284May 04, 2008 13:33:17 | Im not sure but i think my DM says BoED is considered 3.0 and not 3.5. (Pls Correct him if he is wrong). Is there anything else? He is wrong. BoED is 3.5 (BoVD, on the other hand, is 3.0). |
| #13ninjarabbitMay 04, 2008 13:34:28 | I think the swift extended abjurations are much more valuable than the AC bonus. AC is good to a point but it's only one measure of your defense. Some good abjurations include protection against alignment, magic circle against alignment, dispel magic to a point, and resist energy. |
| #14alphathegreatMay 04, 2008 13:34:40 | The thing is, there are plenty of DMs who don't allow the BoED simply because they think it's overpowered. There's a lot of great stuff in there...but it might be more powerful than the DM wants to deal with. |
| #15ieniemienieMay 04, 2008 13:55:43 | He is wrong. BoED is 3.5 (BoVD, on the other hand, is 3.0). Addition: BoeD was issued in October 2003, and D&D 3.5 was launched in July 2003. that's all the proof needed |
| #16proof100_dupMay 04, 2008 14:55:12 | We all know luminous armor is awesome. But I could see some DMs being like hmmm, abjurant champion + luminous armor = +17ac to melee? Yea umm NO. Are there any close runners up? |
| #17jutonMay 04, 2008 15:27:42 | I always wanted to try Ectoplasmic Armour (SpC) metamagiced with Transdimensional Spell (CAr). Ectoplasmic Armour should only work on ghosts and the like, and Transdimensional spell should allow spells to affect creatures on the Material Plane and Shadow (or whatever) Plane. If your DM allows this combo it could net you +14 AC at high levels. |
| #18tshernMay 04, 2008 16:42:21 | Adding a one-level dip of Paragnostic Apostle increases that armor bonus by another two. That's +15 from Greater luminous armor and -4 to enemy melee attacks. Throw in Shield for additional gaggles. |
| #19proof100_dupMay 04, 2008 17:08:03 | I always wanted to try Ectoplasmic Armour (SpC) metamagiced with Transdimensional Spell (CAr). Ectoplasmic Armour should only work on ghosts and the like, and Transdimensional spell should allow spells to affect creatures on the Material Plane and Shadow (or whatever) Plane. Does this work. the way i read transdimensional spell, i think not. if so for a 1st level spell an AC could get a maximum of 19 to AC. |
| #20andyjamesMay 04, 2008 17:38:56 | Argent Savant for even more giggles... |
| #21archmageMay 04, 2008 20:41:34 | AndyJames is correct. A Spellcaster/Argent Savant 5/Abjurant Champion 5 can cast both greater mage armor and shield on herself to gain a whopping +24 to AC (if the DM rules that the Abjurant Champion ability applies to the mage armor line of spells). |
| #22wakalakaMay 04, 2008 21:12:24 | I believe there was an optional material component in complete champion that would increase those bonuses to AC by another 2 each. With that, Abjurant Champion, Argent Savant, and Paragnostic Apostle, I think you can get up to +34 to AC ((8+5+2+2+2)+(4+5+2+2+2)) from shield and greater luminous armor. I'm AFB right now, but I think that's right. If so, that's 44 AC and a -4 on enemie's melee attacks from just 2 spells and a few hundred gp. If you add in polymorph and a couple of other buffs then you could get some pretty impressive numbers. |
| #23andyjamesMay 04, 2008 21:27:25 | Is Luminous Armour a Force effect? If not, then Argent Savant doesn't work on it. As an aside: I refused to use Greater Mage Armour when it had a 50gp material component, let alone a few hundred go one... I hate gp component spells... |
| #24nanshorkMay 04, 2008 23:51:19 | Is Luminous Armour a Force effect? If not, then Argent Savant doesn't work on it. Good thing it's material component free now. :D |
| #25risnerMay 05, 2008 0:26:08 | whats that thing called in BOED, luminous armor or something? abjuration level 3 and gives 8 AC, as well as lower melee attacks by -4. Luminous provides an Armour Bonus, and if it is abjuration would work. Only castable by good (or at minimum non evil) and prepared casters. Polymorh does not provide Armour bonus to AC and wouldn't work. I am not sure if Dragonskin/Spiderskin provide Armour Bonus or Natural Armour Bonus, if Natural they would not work. If they provide indirect AC they would not work. Shield provides an Armour bonus? Or is it shield bonus or deflection? If Deflection it wouldn't work. Does AbCham work for Shield bonus? Protection From Evil provides deflection, so it doesn't work. Use Mage Armour No longer works for A.Champ's abilities in Errata. |
| #26proof100_dupMay 05, 2008 14:39:23 | Shield def works. its a shield affect and abj. Could someone point out what material componenet this guy is talking about that allows an additional 2 to ac for shield and (mage or luminious?) armor.... |
| #27wakalakaMay 05, 2008 16:58:31 | Guardinal Feather, Complete Champion page 132. 600gp to increase AC bonus or energy resistance from any spell by 2. A bit expensive to use on a regular basis, but it helps get your AC even higher in a BBEG fight or something. |
| #28joemama1512May 14, 2008 17:03:25 | Oh, there was some kind of a feat (check the crystalkeep index) that adds ANOTHER +1AC for any type of AC-boosting spell. Between Shield, Luminous Armor, SpiderSkin, there is another +3AC to tack on. Shield of Faith or the like (deflection) would boost to +4. There might be other spells that add AC bonuses from other non-enhancement sources such as a dodge bonus, or a sacred bonus or competence, morale, etc. |
