| #1konohaphoenixApr 03, 2009 10:57:18 | I have been thinking about a character build for quite some time now it is the prc Champion of Corellion and was looking for advice on how to build a pretty decent one the LVL we are at right now is about 8-9. One of my Ideas was to go 2 lvl fighter 3 lvl Paladin and enter the class that way, My second idea was to with atleast 1-2 lvls of rogue for the skill pts and other little nifty tricks. Funny thing is our party consits of a really good Ranger Archer, A dwarven defender, an evocker specialist, and a cleric of Mystra of one of his domains are time, and I was A paladin/ Knight protector. With this party set up we easyly cut through any fighting based Ecl's the DM's already meantioned that and he has been making changes to the creatures we fight so its a challenge. We have no trapfinding abilitys what so ever, but in a fight we mow through pretty much anything hence the reason for the couple LVL's of rogue. Only problem is that that build semi hurts the COC Prc im going for, I'm srtongly thinking of being Halfelf rather than any other forms of elves since they tend to hurt the character class in some way or another. -2 con, -2 cha, hurt the build im looking for, Funny thing is I'm pretty good at building fighters of all sorts but for some reason when I think of the COC my mind is drawing a blank. Any kind of help and I would be greatly thankful. |
| #2theswordsmasterApr 03, 2009 11:08:35 | Fighter 2/ Paladin 3 won't cut it as you need BAB +7 for CoC. If your considering rogue for trapfinding I'm assuming you can get by losing one point of BAB. Marshal 2 might be better as trapfinding can be raplaced by many thing and the aura benefit the entire group. Knowing what books are accepted would give me a easier time with my suggestion. The Swords Master |
| #3konohaphoenixApr 03, 2009 11:47:51 | Oh sorry about that pretty much any book is allowed as long as they are not from the "Broken" books like the book of nine swords. The way the DM is, that in other peoples sessions hes always been a Broken rogue that could do "anything" so now that he has started to DM he looks at classes to see how he can break them and allows and or disallows the class(he does the same thing for our spell casters and their spells). For me I'm the special case since I don't go out of my to break anything I thought he would reject the COC prc because of the add dex to dammage and other abilitys like the armor special and such. although he has been pretty forgiving in other areas where other DMs would not have aloowed certain things also the way he runs halfelves is you dont need exotic weapon proficiency for elven weapons if you tend to lean to your elven side. Now the problem arrives as to what eqiupment I can have, the reason for the fighter LVL's was so I can go Towersheild then couple that with fullplate any ideas? |
| #4theswordsmasterApr 03, 2009 12:14:45 | You could go fighter 2/paladin 5. nets you all your prereqs. you gain your own mount, some spell (could be sub for bonus feat as per the alternative class feature from complete champion), turn undead and a second smite. All your class have ride so mounted combat become an option but it's limited by your environment. You could be interested in looking up the devotion feat in complete champion or divine might/shield in complete divine. The Swords Master |
| #5pithicaApr 03, 2009 12:24:05 | Oh sorry about that pretty much any book is allowed as long as they are not from the "Broken" books like the book of nine swords. So the PH must be right out? Seriously, ToB barely begins to provide balance to the non-casters, it isn't broken unless and until Wizards, Clerics, and Druids are completely disallowed. |
| #6unundindurApr 03, 2009 12:37:00 | From what I have heard that PrC works well with dual wielders... No idea if that is true though, as it have way to steep and weird requirements for my taste. PS: Saying Tome of Battle is broken makes little sense. Its great both in flavour and mechanics, and is probably oen of the very best written books they put out. |
| #7theswordsmasterApr 03, 2009 12:42:35 | Yeah...Tome of Battle actually help greatly the melee classes. For playing a cleric in another campaign it's hard not to overshadow the other members when one spell win you the fight. That aside, what do you what to do with your character? CoC just seems to me like an un-focused class that tries to do to much and fail. The 3 feats the class needs lead to nothing much except for mounted combat but then you need to use a elven weapon for your elegant strike. unimpeded movement allow for spring attack but then you loose on mounted combat. The Swords Master |
| #8konohaphoenixApr 03, 2009 12:45:19 | Alot of those sound very interesting but mounted combat is out of the question we mainly go dungeon delving the mount and investing in feats in mounted combat would just be a liability. My idea is a front line fighter seeing as i'm the only one willing to commit to that while trying to maintain a decent AC. Our dwarven defender is an armor ***** but the problem with him is he cant do alot of dammage and he doesnt have the HP it 60-65 for a LVL 8 and he went knight with a d12 HD. I'm mainly trying to fill out the roll, many people said go with a Barbarian since they do alot of dammage but the life expectancy of one is reletively short. Well I'll give you an Idea of the Campaign were in base gargoyles he's increased to beyond what they should be fo HD we recently fought an iron Gollum that had DR 20 adamantine and max HP plus some in a room full of resting traps that buff him up. tentacle graple monsters and hes sending us alot more tougher stuff simply because we chew through the regular encounters for our LVL. But most of the stuff that we have been fighting have a decerable anatomy (can be crit) so on average if I go with COC that way I can add my dex to dammage the average dammge dealt is more than a Barbarian can deal out, here are my stats 18 str, 17 dex, 18 con, 16 int, 16 wis, 18 cha. And yes I did roll well If at all possible can you give some more ideas about this build and equipment. I just looked at the Marshel class and that does look really cool but how would that go with the COC? thanks for the continued help it really appreciated.:D |
| #9keithioApr 03, 2009 13:31:48 | Non casters aren't my style, but my first impression is something like: Swashbuckler3/Fighter2/Dervish10/ChampionOfCorellon2/x3 |
| #10theswordsmasterApr 03, 2009 13:39:47 | Marshal isn't a good idea if you're looking to be the damage dealer as it's more of a support class than anything else. Those "many people" that suggested Barbarian are right. They can dish out amazing number of damage on the ennemies with relative ease. Your best bet, I think, would be to use spring attack but it's feat intensive and most of your prerequisites are wasted. Barring the mount you could use the alternate class feature "underdark knight" from Complete champion pg49. to gain something useful. Take power attack and divine might to ups your damage. Two-weapon fighting could be good considering you have full BAB but it get REALLY feats intensive. Take fighter 6/full bab 1 and then enter CoC. For equipment try to net yourself a metalline weapon or one made of adamantium. DR for your armor or something to absorb damage is always useful. I have unfortunatly no tips/tricks for the tentacle monster for now. The Swords Master |
| #11konohaphoenixApr 03, 2009 14:17:44 | Yeah I looked at that but the problem is that barbarians loose most of their abilities when wearing medium to heavy armor, also to contend with is the fatigue after the rage and our battles go until our casters run out of spells so that could be taxing on the character for longer encounters. And COC cant wield the twohanded weapons and have the dammage from dex stack it has to be a Longsword, rapier, elven thinblade, elven lightblade, elven courtblade, or scimitar. What I was thinking was elven thinblade (essentially a rapier) but with a threat range of 17-20 puting keen on it lowering it to 15-20 the ability to crit goes up exponetially and the dammage out put would be 2d6 4 str doubled=8 and maybe a further 4 dex doubled=8 for an average of 22 pts of dammage thats about the same as someone going two handed only with a onehanded weapon. And as for the duelist the problems still arrise with lose most abillities when wearing med to hev armor although the duelist class would get me there quicker and grant me Int bonus to dammage which is +3 and double that into a crit then it gets nasty.![]() |
| #12theswordsmasterApr 03, 2009 14:29:13 | The barbarian doesn't need to wear medium/heavy armor the rage bonus provide them extra HP to make up for the loss of AC. They also rely on the healer to patch up whatever meager damage was done to them before they slaugther the ennemies once the battle is won. Their fatigue only affect them during the battle which shouldn't come often into play. If your battle goes on until the caster runs out of spell they're doing something wrong. I suggested power attack but only as a prereq for divine might which add your CHA bonus on damage for the round at the cost of a turn attempt so the fact that using a two-handed weapon would negate your ability doesn't matter. The Swords Master |
| #13konohaphoenixApr 03, 2009 15:03:42 | Yeah your right it is only for the encounter:P but I would deal more dammage with divine might add cha to dammage with other boosts and keen elven thinblade. And the creatures on average we fight deal a min dammage of 15+ just the other day when my Pal/knight protector died the creature we were fighting was dealing a min of 22-24 pts of dammage a round and had 2 atk's my char had 88 HP (LVL 8) the dammage it was dealing was more than the cleric could heal and the DM was rolling low he rolls right in front of us that way when he crits and such we know. He was rolling under 3 on a d10 the only thing that saved me a couple times was the fact of fullplate and a towershield if i were a barbarian he would never made the rounds my char did. And as I said the DM is upping the encounters much higher because we keep chewing through the ecl's of our LVL. The two weapon idea is interesting with all the bonus's the dammage would get rediculous 3-4 atk's a round w/o Haste and the cleric casts that on tougher fights, but it uses alot of feats to get there. Your ideas are helping me put together a character especially since I was drawing a blank and thanks for that but I think Barbarian would just be a dead end for this char build. And the duelist/swashbuckler idea sounds like a good class but suffers in AC but gets other bonus's like int to dammage. The class to sounds like it was meant for someone wearing med to heavy armor with the unimpeaded movment, and superior defense. And currently looking at it and I might only go to LVL 8-9 as LVL 8 I get Corellions wrath. |
| #14theswordsmasterApr 03, 2009 15:17:41 | The barbarian suggestion was for an entirely different build, one without CoC as they don't mix well. On another note, the cleric shoudn't be healing during the fight as it's really not effectif. I should point you to this wonderfull thread there. Also keithio suggestion of using Dervish is a good idea but it cripple your AC as you can't dance in medium/heavy armor hence the reason he only put 2 level of CoC in his build...probably. The Swords Master |
| #15carnivoreApr 03, 2009 15:49:21 | you could try this: Dragonborn Wood Elf Ranger(trapfinding Variant) 2/ Paladin 3/ Pious Templar 3... Champion of Corellon 10/ Exotic Weapon master 2 gain: Mettle Weapon Specialize + Melee Weapon Mastery lots of Feats Good Skills Good Saves :D |
| #16rebel7284Apr 03, 2009 16:46:42 | With such stats I'd consider running one of those characters that add a bunch of stats to everything. For example: Factotum 3/Swashbuckler 3/Paladin of Freedom 2/CoC1 You lose 1 BAB but you get trapfinding and several times per encounter adding your int to AC/Hit/Damage. You can take the feat Font of Inspiration found online to make the factotum's abilities even more powerful. |
| #17konohaphoenixApr 04, 2009 1:55:33 | OH sorry I thought the whole Barbarian class was taking in the COC prc. I hardly ever play Barbarians so I woulnt know where to begin other than 3-4 Bar 1-2 ftr maybe a bit more fighter just to get weap focus and specialization, but now im getting off subject. As for Rebels idea the factorum is a no go I can already see the DM shooting it down he doesn't like the ability to drastically raise your stats by just changing "formations" his words. Now I know the Ability isnt a formation but he will see as that and shoot it down, trust me we had a long debate about stances and formations and how they were used by real people. Martial artistist's, Crusader's, Saladin's own troops, etc... Then I got the reply of real life compared to D&D mechanics. The paladin of freedom does sound like a good idea and maybe I can replace the special mount with an extra feat or something. I like the idea of the Dervish idea but then I would have to try and convince the DM why a Paladin COC would be a Dervish a gypsy class (thats what he thinks of those classes) he seperates them by land... Oh I forgot the Campaign setting is set in the forgotten realms of fearun right now in cormyr. And no LVL adjusted characters found that out when I wanted to play an Aasimar of whitch he said that they werent that common. maybe that might help with the setting hes trying to set he has read too many forgotten realms books hence the reason for the setting. As for Carnivore I dont know what a dragon born is but the class section does seem interesting... and swordmaster thanks for the Healing link it helped out a lot only major problem is most of those magic idems would be banned by if not givin a decent price increase, lets put it this way he outlawed I think it was some sort of unlimited food source item that was cheaper than merlins magic spoon and it produced decent food rather than mere grool that merlins spoon created and he wondered why didn't some create this for everyone and a good part of city if not world hunger. He's thoughts are that the classes that are in the PHB are in there for a reason and each have their own benifits and drawbacks ergo the cleric is the healer thus defeating the purpose of what you sent me but it was a good read. Basically if we could do that stuff to heal ourselves then the cleric class should be changed to be better, and thus unballancing the game. He doesn't like 4th ED and every class has the ability to heal themselves to some degree ergo some classes can do "anything" also the fact that they nerfed the rogue. Oh yeah were in a good Campaign and the only way to get to be a LVL adj race is if you invest in LVL's to get it he gave me the Okay to be a dragon Diciple and by 10th LVL they becom a half dragon. The amount of changes to the creatures he's made makes the leadership feat completely useless other than the fact of having a cohort. Followers drop too quick, even the ones that have LVL's drop too quickly and the cohort is DM run as an NPC and he gets to choose what LVL they come in at and what Class they are. this is what stopped me from choosing the leadership feat if I got free from a class then maybe I'd consider it, this is half the reason my mind was drawing a blank. The other reason is this, two players in our group always picked the same class an archer ranger and the evocker and every time they rebuilt their character's they would get better at building them and not only that but also inherit the wealth of the past character since we only have one mage and one archer. Thus giving themselves more starting Character wealth so the DM made two rules one The wealth of the dead character is destroyed to some degree he will look over the character sheet and pick out items and say this and that is destroyed. The second rule is you cant be the same class twice now to the other three players including myself this makes for a difficult prospect, for we only have one week to decide what class to be and hopefully have a good progression but most importantly if the character dies you cant pick the same class twice. Ultimately this means starting from scratch once againand that will get quite tedious this is why I've been on the fence the COC has a nice progression for a heavly armed and armored fighter build the armor class alone might save me and the hit points are nice to have while the benifits also make up for what I was doing before (+1 fullplate, +1 towershield, +1 longsword, ring o protection+1, amulet o nat armor+1, and thats just the basics I had) This new Char is brand new and has yet to be introduced. My stats are once again as follows18 str +4 17 dex +3 18 con +4 16 int +3 16 wis +3 18 cha +4 I died at LVL 8 but by the time they get done with the encounter and LVL I may be coming in at LVL 9. I hope this gives you a little more ideas and once again thanks for the help. ![]() |
| #18true_shinkenApr 04, 2009 2:44:12 | The great wall of text!! Your DM has some pretty weird idea on what is powerful and what is not and the like... He thinks they nerfed the Rogue in 4E? That doesn't even make any sense, except for the spellcasters everyone is stronger than ever in 4E O.o Your best bet is probably Swashbuckler/Fighter to take advantage of those high stats. Take a two-handed exotic finessable weapon (like the elven courtblade), a level of Exotic Weapon Master later and go to down adding Strenght x2, Int and Dex to damage. With the right armor (mithral full plate of nimblenes) you would have some pretty nice AC and all. |
| #19WeezelApr 04, 2009 3:41:53 | So the PH must be right out? Seriously, ToB barely begins to provide balance to the non-casters, it isn't broken unless and until Wizards, Clerics, and Druids are completely disallowed. +1 The most broken stuff is in PHB - polymorph etc |
| #20muertogApr 04, 2009 6:01:09 | Points: 1) Clerics should not be healing unless he -has- to in combat. Cleric is much better to cast 1 round of buff and then go in the combat himself, especially at lower levels. Best healing are the vigor spells, which are out of combat (small HP/ round, but better than a CLW/CMW). Actions are precious. If he really needs it, stock up on a) Close Wounds for 2nd level cures, b) Touch of Healing as a reserve feat for "free" healing between encounters. 2) AC is junk. The higher level you get, the less important it becomes. There is a reason that armour enchantments are cheaper than weapon enchantments. A method of miss chance is more important than 1-2 more points of AC. One reason is touch attacks become more problematic the higher you get. 3) If you are really sold on the idea of a CoC-themed character, you run the problem of the feat requirements. At level 9, you would likely have 4 or 5 feats (discounting flaws), which means almost all your feats would have to be devoted to PrC entry. Ideally, you would make a character that would utilize the feats you -have- to take for the PrC, otherwise they are merely dead weight. Combat Expertise: Higher AC (as dodge bonus). Better AC is not bad, but you want full BAB to best utilize. Dodge: Eh. At least it stacks w/ CE. Mounted Combat: You already mentioned that MC is not useful in your campaign. Weapon Focus or EWP: Self-explanatory. Problematic in that they "lock" you into a specific weapon. Weapon choices: Thinblade is better crit and works w/ power attack (and finesse, but power attack gives better returns). Would likely stick to that one instead of Longsword, since a +1 damage (from WF) is not as important. I would almost suggest taking levels 1-7 of Whirling Frenzy variant Barb, except that you can't use the frenzy and expertise at the same time. However, it is still an option, especially since you don't have to use your frenzy every encounter. You can still use medium armor and gain the barb bonuses, and apply the medium armor to the CoC ability. Heck, if you really wanted to, you could get Mithral full plate and still get it counted as medium as applied to barb limitations. That would have a max dex bonus of +6 (+1, +2 for mithral, +3 for CoC). The frenzy would also help w/ the corellon's wrath ability (additional attack that stacks w/ haste effects). Throw in Lion totem from Complete Champion for a pounce ability (full attack at the end of a charge). Heck, at that point, go w/ full plate, since you no longer have to worry about the medium armor limitation of the rapid movement (since you no longer have the rapid movement). |
| #21muertogApr 04, 2009 12:12:44 | Second thoughts... There is a paladin spell that removes fatigue. Can't for the life of me find the book for some reason, but it is low level. Wands of that would be relatively cheap, and taking a couple levels of paladin of freedom (unearthed arcana) would grant both divine grace and access to wands with spells on the paladin spell list. Or you could go totally in the paladin levels to attempt to get the low level spells. If you are really feat starved, feeble (flaw) isn't bad for your stats, or a couple levels of fighter would help. |
| #22konohaphoenixApr 04, 2009 12:22:12 | The great wall of Text lol . And your right he is a weird DM or atleast a very unconventional one. And I'm begining to piece together the COC class I'm thinking of Swashbuckler/Fighter/ the Paladin variant I found in one of the books where you replace the aura of courage for an aura that allows you to add Cha to AC as a divine bonus. I have an 18 thats a +4 and with a cloak of cha +4 it boosts to a +6. My AC would be 10 base +1 fullplate=9(maybe mithral if I have enof money) +1 from dex, +1 amu nat armor, +1 ring o protection, +6 cha thats a 28 AC w/o shieldand a touch AC of 21 since I add my full dex which is a +4. then for weapons go for the elven thinblade and the courtblade since its a two handed finessable weapon, and I got the goahead to trade in the Special mount (if I co that high in Pal) for a bonus feat that draws off the fighter list or some kind of special ability thats equivelent to the mount. And the Exotic Weapon Master does look fun to play only prob is what cool little tricks should I pick up? Also what's nimbleness? And as the whole polymorph thing the DM barely allows that, I think if the mage ends up abusing it he will ban it. And as I stated before enless you invest in limited items, or potions, scrolls, and more importantly class related healing. He won't go for any other source of magic healing items without banning it or overpricing it. His thoughts the healing belongs to the healers, also his thoughts about the dammage taken and the healing not keeping up with it is "don't get Hit". You know I bet if I were a rogue he would allow some broken things since he favors them the whole campaign 1-6 LVL has been geared to rogues and he did alot of things that he should not be able to do. Also certain Barbarian classes have been dissallowed like like frenzied berzekers, I only played a Barbarian once a long time ago and that campaign didn't last that long for me to get a feel for them. I know this question is going to be off Subject but other than COC what other classes would you recomend even base classes to build from the ground up 1st to 8-9help in general would be appreciated and thanks for the continued support.;) |
| #23muertogApr 04, 2009 12:45:35 | Was looking over the EWP, and don't see a whole lot of love there. The only tricks you could take w/ the elven thinblade (and courtblade, but that's two feats for proficiency) are: Exotic Sunder (boo) Show Off (waste of an action, since mages can shaken more, faster, and easier) Throw Exotic Weapon (Do you really want to throw your weapon?) Twin Exotic Weapon Fighting (but would only work w/ 2 courtblades since it requires light weapon) Trip Attack (a possibility, but you have no reach like a spiked chain) Uncanny Blow (You are better off just getting power attack and save yourself a level in a class that does something for you) |
| #24true_shinkenApr 04, 2009 13:04:35 | Was looking over the EWP, and don't see a whole lot of love there. The only tricks you could take w/ the elven thinblade (and courtblade, but that's two feats for proficiency) are: Just take Racial Weapon Famialirity - EWP on all racial related exotic weapons. And with the courtblade, you just need Uncanny Blow; you are seriously understimating the ability, consider that this guy has the stats to back this up. |
| #25konohaphoenixApr 04, 2009 13:39:29 | And I dont need to take EWP since I will be playing more than likely a half elf and The DM said as long as you are the race and or half of that race you dont need EWP to use Racial weapons. my stats once again are![]() 18 str +4 17 dex +3 18 con +4 16 int +3 16 wis +3 18 cha +4 Any thoughts:P |
| #26carnivoreApr 06, 2009 5:09:47 | for your benefit, here is a link to Dragonborn: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/iw/20060105b&page=1 it adds Fighter as a Favored Class.... so if you went with Wood Elf(fav Class Ranger).... then added Dragonborn Template... you would have 2 favored Classes: Ranger and Fighter as true_shinken and Muertog have already given great advice.... all i would add is this... try this: use a single Weapon: Elven Courtblade + 2 handed Style
Exotic Weapon Tricks: Trip Attack – you may make Trip attacks with your non-Light Exotic Melee Weapon. If the weapon already allowed trips, the action has a +2 bonus. Exotic Sunder – do +1d6 damage when attempting to Sunder with an Exotic Weapon.
use two light weapons: Elven Thinblades + TWF
Exotic Weapon Tricks: Twin Exotic Weapon Fighting – when wielding the same Light Exotic Weapon in each hand, you are treated as having the Feat: Two Weapon Fighting. If you actually have the feat, then the penalty is reduced from –2 to –1 on each hand. - Trip Attack – you may make Trip attacks with your non-Light Exotic Melee Weapon. If the weapon already allowed trips, the action has a +2 bonus.
you could do this: Wood Elf Swashbuckler 3/ Paladin 2/ Pious Templar 4/ Exotic Weapon Master 1/ Champion of Corellon 10 :D |
| #27muertogApr 11, 2009 0:57:29 | Edit: Nevermind Exotic Weapon Trick (Trip Attack) can use a one-handed or two-handed exotic weapon to make a trip attack. No mention of it requires a non-light weapon, so you -can- use the exotic trip w/ the Elven Thinblades. This teaches me to read the book and not only the post before re-posting. :P |
| #28the_shamanApr 11, 2009 6:09:24 | Did Champion of Corellon give dex to damage with all light weapons, or just longswords and the like? I think that Swash 4/rogue 4 (or swash 3/rogue4/fighter 1 or 2 - depending on whether the DM enforces XP penalties) might not be too bad: you get a fair bit of skill points, you add int to damage with finessable weapons, and with daring outlaw you can make a fairly decent sneak attack (and, with the PHB II feature, get a minor shield AC bonus when you do a full attack) . It could be worse ;) Telling blow (PHB II) can turn those sneak attack dice into a bonus damage on your criticals, which with a thinblade or rapier should be somewhat common. A fighter 4/swash 3 gets you feats, including the option for melee weapon mastery, and int to damage. For defense you can try using combat expertise: if you will not be power attacking like crazy (and will have a decent intelligence) it is not a bad feat, and a prerequsite for all manner of nice tricks. Pious templar is certainly possible, but will at first cost you a few feats. What is your DM's opinion of psionics, and the Psychic Warrior in particular? |
| #29zoddyApr 11, 2009 7:08:25 | Okay friend of mine is playing a CoC in one of campaigns we run... Go dual wield longswords with oversized two weapon fighting, TFW tree, if you want to wield tower shield around just make it animated - go with combat expertise and improved combat expertise for AC boosts. I will talk with him about his build and post it here, he was mentioning something around AC 56-57 on 18th or 19th level, dunno how far you guys are going |
| #30keithioApr 11, 2009 8:54:42 | Maybe something like Swashbuckler3/Fighter4/CoC2/Duelist10/x1 For a int based defensive TWFighter. |
| #31reisApr 11, 2009 8:57:27 | to the OP, I can't read your posts because you need to use paragraph breaks, wall of text crit me for like 29474205872 damage |
| #32mcpoyoApr 11, 2009 10:45:24 | ...problem is that barbarians loose most of their abilities when wearing medium to heavy armor... For what it's worth, Barbarians only lose their class features when wearing heavy armor or in heavy load. It specifically states no armor, light armor, or medium. |
| #33carnivoreApr 11, 2009 11:20:18 | something to remember about the class abilities of Champion of CorellonElegant Strike – add your Dexterity modifier to your damage (in addition to your Strength modifier) with any of the following weapons:
Longsword :D |
| #34reisApr 11, 2009 11:49:07 | yeah it works great with dervish |
| #35casualgathererApr 11, 2009 12:29:39 | With those stats, he might have a good monk.... Maybe add fist of the forest for 3 stats to AC... Anyway, I would say that you want as many stats to AC, damage and hit as possible. Swashbuckler 3/Fighter 2/Dervish 10/CoC 5 would be really nice, as you would be dervish dancing with your elven blades, Getting loads of attacks per round, and still doing a bunch of damage. Now, this requires lots of feats. For Dervish, Combat Expertise, Dodge, Mobility, Weapon Focus with a Slashing Melee weapon. Wait, no, CoC also requires Combat Expertise and (possibly) Weapon Focus with a slashing melee weapon. Woo! Just as an aside, ToB is usually called Overpowered because most people think that fighters are already balanced. Its a common misconception, but people think that since the PHB was first, so it couldn't be too bad, or they would have fixed it. |

I asked my DM and he shot down the pious templar idea since it resembles the Crusader from the book of 9 swords. As for the dragon born Idea it looks really cool but it doesnt fit the character I'm building, also I know for a fact that if I became the dragonborn it says that you become a follower to Bahamut and fight off the spawn of (Insert name of evil dragon god because I forgot):P so that just wouldn't fit. I would end up loosing all of my COC ability's, Also he doesn't believe in wielding two med weapons even though it was done in history. So that throws out that feat, he already shot that down for a different player, Also telling blow is completely out of the question adding sneak atk to crits is too overpowered for him. As I stated early on he's been playing rogue's that could do (ANYTHING) and he knows how break them and that was one of his feats. With a bunch of cheese he was capable of dealing 20+ d6 on a crit at lvl 10 or so and then he would power atk for full and all he would need is to hit with his weapon which was keen and deal 30+ D?(what ever weapon he would use) + 20 d6 and that was just the tip of his Broken cheese burger build. So he told one of our players a solid Hell no lol. Also I did confirm I will be coming in at LVL 10-11 that gives me 49,000 gp at 10 or 66,000 at 11. Due to everyone's input im getting a better idea of what the character I want, first off equipment I'm throwing away the fullplate and towershield idea. Then go with Mithral Breastplate, and parrying dagger, the dagger I can't attack with it acts as a +2 shield bonus and the DM already agreed if I put plus's on it then it count's as a shield of that bonus.getting elven thinblade and elven courtblade. Gloves o dex, Cloak o cha, and maybe a headband o int. Thats for the basics as for LVLs Swashbuckler3/Pal of freedom3 (replace the aura with one that gives me Cha to ac as a divine bonus)/Fighter2/COC2(LVL10) or 3(LVL11). This way I can add my INT,DEX, and STR bonus to dammage, Have good SV's from divine health and keep all my class bonus's. Also this is going off topic a bit but I may go with the leadrship feat more or less for the minions and cohorts is there and good classes that give me this feat or any good PRC's that use this? Again thanks for the help its bring my character design to life. Ps. I know I know The Great Wall of Text, LOL.:embarrass |
| #38konohaphoenixApr 14, 2009 5:38:53 | Dervish does sound like a good idea but then I will have to rethink the character design replace the elven thinblade(good bye keen D8 Rapier crit range) for a longsword I will still have the parrying dagger I'll lose one extra atk but dual weapons isn't my thing our DM is like this D8/D6, a bastard sword being D10 would be pushing it D10/D6. So single weapon, But then again I'm semi looking for a dualist like build. at least I think so far that is.:P |
