Mar 29, 2008 22:15:34 I know there are rules for becoming older. (higher mental stats, lower physical) etc. Are there any rules for playing a child or young teenager? Like you're small instead of medium size, but maybe some of your stats take a penalty?

Mar 31, 2008 16:47:37 Savage Species, a few other books, links on the D&D web-site, have Racial classes. Effectively, they are ~junior versions of full grown adults. Certainly they can be played and role-played that way. Then technically, instead of growing-up, you level up instead. Result - permanent Teenagerhood. Momma Beholder is @#$%'ed.

I'd say there are two catergories before round one.
(0) .... training your character - would have you able to use some of your abilities, some Commoner stuff = talk to DM.
(-1) ... untrained/unschooled - can use weapons and armor non-proficiently only, untrained skills only, no feats, no class features, d4 hitpoints instead of 4 or 6 or 8 etc, some racial abilities = talk to DM.

example : in my sig, an Orc toddler says "DON KILZ ME MISTR" to the guy climbing in her window.
That's a rushed diplomacy check.

Prolly no reason to give experience below 1st level, there aren't rules, killing (choking) chickens is a waste of food.

Mar 31, 2008 18:15:01 City of Stormreach has a bunch of kids running around that they say are Small sized for humans, and take a -2 to STR. -2 STR, -1 Size Category is the best I've got in a WotC book.

Mar 31, 2008 18:28:54 The best way I could figure out to determine the difference for younger than average players is to use the rules in the MM to reduce their size(and then their stats because of it) to simulate the youth. This would make a young rogue great, but it would lose some of it's "flexibility" as it grew up, unless you used the level bumps to stats in dex to balance it out. Then as you aged your str would go up a bit also.

Mar 31, 2008 20:14:36 The Star Wars d20 rules say a child would simply have -2 to all stats compared to an adult, so if you want to use that, you can; I can't think of any generic "official" stats that work for any race, though the Stormreach stats are close.
