Im just curious as to whether any1 has figured out a way to get abjurant champ and swift blade together under one build within 20 levels.
The closest I can think of at the moment would be something like fighter1/wiz5/SB10/AC4. or Battlesorc6/Sb10/AC4

:trying to keep lost CL at a minimum, since AB loses 4 already.

Any ideas?

AB loses no caster levels. Also, I don't think you can fit them both in. Just go with Wizard 6/Swiftblade 10/AC 4.

I can do it. It involves a loophole though. Namely the Modron/Incarnate Golem template trick.

why not just do this:

Duskblade 5/ Abjurant Champion 5/ Swiftblade 10

just take the Feat: Arcane Disciple..... Celerity... gain Haste added to Spell list

now you get BAB +20, 20th lvl Caster and all the Swiftblade goodness

Using Extra Spell at 9th level to gain Haste from another spell-list (I still think this is a DM call):

Duskblade5/AC5/Swiftblade10 #

Edit: Ninja'd, and better than mine, without Extra Spell.

extra spell doesnt work until you get 4th lvl spells... notice:

Extra Spell[General] (CArc p79)req:Caster level 3rd
You learn an extra spell whose level is at least one lower than your highest spell level. You may take this feat multiple times.

Duskblades dont get 4th lvl spells till 13th lvl

Ah, moreover, Haste is a 1st level spell for Trapsmiths, so this is viable if your DM allows you to get spells from outside your own list.

You need to prepare Haste for all your slots of that level; can't do that with Arcane Disciple on Duskblade as far as I know unless you have a way to lose slots (you initially have 2 3rd level slots as a Duskblade, you can only prepare Haste in one).

Dragonwrought Kobold Battle Sorc 5/Swiftblade 10/AC 5 works, given flaws for sufficient feats to qualify in time. You need Dragonwrought, Draconic Rite of Passage, Dodge and Mobility by level 6. 2 flaws makes it easy, any less though... Also, you can only take Greater Draconic Rite of Passage on level 6 to qualify, so this build relies on the assumption that you can take Greater Draconic Rite of Passage before you take the level (qualifying off being level 6) and that preparing Haste in your all 0 3rd level slots over level 5 is sufficient.

i wasnt unless i needed to .... i dont remember , is it a Req: ... or do you only need to cast an Abjuration spell ..... Abjurant Champion, boosts Shield, but you are not required to know it, IIRC

Duskblades are Spontaneous Intelligence-based Arcane spellcasters ..... this would work as follows:

Arcane Disciple(Celerity)
Arcane Disciple(Time)
Versatile Caster

use Versatile caster with 2 spell slots 3rd lvl.... to cast Haste from Celerity(4th lvl)
cast Haste from Time in remaining 3rd level Slot

A single feat Arcane Disciple(Celerity) and a custom Runestaff that has Haste and another thematically related spell would also do the job.

If Haste and Shield have some sort of thematic relation(which I'm not seeing) then you're golden.
Hmm...still going to be hard to get good use out of A.C. without Shield though.

thats a great idea .... use all 3 slots on haste ... very nice

Shield is irrelavant .... it was simply a question regarding Qualification.... Abjurant Champion 5 sets Caster level = BAB .... Swiftblade is Full BAB, but loses 4 CL

Do tell. I dont think I know this one.

Take a Modron. Hit it with PaO, turning it into any non-sentient Construct that isn't immune to spells (there are some, I'm just AFB, so I can't tell you for sure). Hit it again. Apply Incarnate Construct template, from SS. Hit it with PaO twice again, for the same construct. Apply IC template again.

It now has a -4 LA, and thus a -1 ECL (IIRC). It can now become a 21st level character at the same XP value of a 20th level character.

Side Note: Paying a high-level Artificer to craft a Maximized Awaken Construct Staff by any means necessary is much more cost-effective. Adding in PaO to said staff solves problems.

a Runestaff allows you to use your Spellslots to cast spells that are in the Runestaff ..... thus if a Runestaff has Haste in it.... you could use all your Spell Slots to power it.... fullfilling the reqs for Swiftblade

If you're going the duskblade/AC/swiftblade route there's really no point in taking the 10th level of swiftblade since the duskblade never gets 6th level spell slots.

Duskblades get 3rd level spells at 9th level. So you'd go Duskblade 5/AC 4/Swiftblade 1/etc. where 1 level of etc. is AC's 5th level.

O i see what your doing now.

But they are right the lack of 6th level spell slots gets rid of swift blades coolest feature. And the lack of spell selections severly gimps some of the Abjurant champions best features. So while it does satisfy getting both in it doesnt really do it in a way that is very efficient.

I do applaud the effort though.

Does any1 else have some Ideas? Is there some legal kobalt cheese that gets us there?

True.

Which makes the entire thing sort of pointless, since you now have one level left over.

And even with that build your duskblade level for spells known/per day is only 16 , even though the CL is 20. Which is only one point of CL/BAB better than Fighter4/Sorc2/AC5/SB9 or any better build.

Greater Draconic Rite of Passage gets you 3rd level spells so you qualify. Also, you technically used all your 3rd level slots on level 5 to prepare Haste; all 0 of them. The prerequisites never state you actually need to have had slots over the last level. Of course, this all involves taking the Greater Draconic Rite of Passage "between" the levels, which is ambiguitous at best.

No, cannot be done. The Arcane Disciple feat says you gain the access to domain spells yada yada yada, however you do not gain domain spells from a level you cannot yet cast, much as a cleric, you simply cannot comprehend the spells or you lack the faith and they are not able to be cast by you until you could normally cast spells of that level. However once you have 4th level spell slots at Duskblade 13, you most certainly could use 2 3rd level slots to power a 4th as normal, the down side is your casting these spells as a cleric would his domain ones, meaning you are granted that specific spell once per day, it is not added to your spell list so you still cannot versatile spellcaster 2 3rds for it. Your god grants you the spell once, not the ability to use it willy nilly... otherwise clerics with Law domain could just make all their prepared spells Dictum and go into the depths of chaos purging every demon in sight. Though you may have a nice DM who could rule otherwise, that is how it works without DM intervention.

You could use either the Loredrake option from Dragons of Eberron, or White dragonspawn from Dragonlance campaign setting with LA buy off. Both of those give you the needed extra Sorcerer casting levels before 6th level. If you can use all three tricks, Kobold Battle Sorcerer 5/Swiftblade 10/Abjurant champion 5 will get you spells as a 20th level Battle Sorcerer.
#33

Monomachy

May 05, 2008 19:26:25
I'm frankly very dubious on dragonwrought kobolds having access to Loredrake at all, and you certainly can't take the Rite of Draconic Passage between levels, but as far as I can tell, you can gain your sixth character level and HD, perform the rite, then lose the level (say, by becoming Necropolitan) and regain it, this time taking your sixth class level in swiftblade.

Battle Sorcerer is still not great, but whatever floats your boat.

Also note that even if the Duskblade trick works, you get caster LEVEL 20 from the Abjurant Champion level 5 ability, not casting as a level 20 Duskblade. Even casting as a level 20 Duskblade is pretty terrible.
