#1 merkinftw Jul 17, 2010 0:05:39	Before I start, I realize that few if any people consider warmage to be an optimal class, but warmage is interchangeable with sorcerer in this build.  We just already have someone playing a wizard. I came up with the following because a friend of mine was interested in playing an illumian in our upcoming campaign.  I wasn't familiar with them, so I did a bit of research, and I found that the thing they were best at was getting in to mystic theurge very quickly.  However, I wanted to see if I could do better, especially considering the question of what to do at level fourteen when you have taken all ten levels of theurge.  I came up with the following, which is copied from an email I sent my friend who will probably be playing this build, so please forgive the personal references and the second person perspective: "So I've been doing some research in to the illumian mystic theurge, and I think I have come up with something even better than what i described to you over the phone and emailed you about.  Here it goes-
#2 urpriest Jul 17, 2010 12:45:15	One thing to consider: you've only got better casting than an equivalent mystic theurge at 17th level and up, before then you will usually have worse casting (due to your Ranger level and your Wildrunner level). Also, have you considered Bamboo Spirit Folk?
#3 lycanthrope0 Jul 17, 2010 20:22:21	i posted this response on the BG boards for you as well, i would ask about bamboo spirit folk for the race.  and i understand the wizard in the group so you want something different stance.   but you are a theurge so no matter what you will be different.  but as far as being a warmage or sorcerer as the arcane part of the equation i understand.  maybe something like this  i have been messing around with a Godzilla build with favored soul.  see if this works for him. Favored Soul of Bahumat 3 / Sorcerer 1 / mystic theurge 10 / contemplative 1 / sacred exocist 1 / xxx (divine spell casting) 4 (maybe spelldancer prc for extra ways to presist spells ) i like doing dragon born of bahumat for the race but its not needed although you get a plasma breath weapon option from the draconic feas that way.  and you get turn undead for DDM.  as well as arcane strike.  the build has almost know feat requirements so you have plenty of flexability with them.  the only thing yous you have to have are 3rd level favored soul ( it nets you claws witch will be your main weapon when you do melee, you have to have the 2nd level spell from complete champion that lets you swap domains and 1 level of contemplative to get a domain.  ( you will want the hero domain so you gain giant size.  ) this will give you some blasting from the sorcerer side good healing and buffs from the favored soul side.  one or both sides should have lesser restoration if you go the spell dancer route but you will only get 5th level arcane spells pre epic. on top of 9th level divine spells if you take bamoo sprit folk you can make that 8th level arcane 9th level divine since you will qualify for arcane hierophant that way as well.
#4 phoenix00 Jul 20, 2010 8:18:12	The 3rd lvl of Holt Warden also gives Trackless Step (the complete champion plant full caster prc, which also gives domain slots if you don't have them already with the 1st lvl) Thus another build might be Illuminan with Improved Sigil Krau Archivist 2/Wizard 1/Mystic Theurge 10/Holt Warden 3/Arcane Hierophant 4 or Archivist 2/Wizard 1/Mystic Theurge 2/Holt Warden 3/Arcane Hierophant 10/Mystic Theurge 2 (the difference between these two builds is the 2nd build is 3 caster levels behind from lvls 8 to 13, 2 lvls behind lvl 7 and lvl 14, and 1 lvl behind lvl 6 and lvl 15 the first build I listed in caster levels, you lose the better bab, hit points, and benefits of Arcane Hierophant though) Cast as a 19th lvl Archivist Cast as a 15th lvl Wizard Has domains lots so you can further mix and match spell casting classes with AnySpell and Greater AnySpell. ------------------------------------ Or in your case replace sorcerer and favored soul for archivist and warmage
#5 lycanthrope0 Jul 21, 2010 6:00:48	i still hold in reserve for using warmage and favored soul for a theurge build.  as in you will be so far behind in casting that it may be or become a problem pre 20 when you finaly get both nines
