| #1lycanthrope0Jun 19, 2010 6:17:49 | for a campaign starting end of july early august my group has an interesting new house rule ( 1 game only ) Arcane spells do not exist at all. they cant be accessed from feats or classess. ( divine counter parts are still around ). |
| #2spiral_rider_hJun 19, 2010 9:13:51 | I come to you with two options, sir. The first idea would be Wild Shape Ranger 5/Nature's Warrior 3/Primeval 1/Warshaper 2/Primeval +9 The Wild Shape variant for Rangers is from Unearthed Arcana, page 58. I know you were looking at Barbarian, but over at community.wizards.com/go/post/reply/7588... they suggest the Ranger variant with Nature's Warrior supplementing until you qualify. Seems really solid. That link also has excellent Primeval Form analysis. I'd go for Megaraptor or Dire Ape myself. If you go this route, see if you can talk your DM into taking Improved Toughness and have it qualify for the PrC. If not, oh well, but it's overall just a better feat that does the same thing. Also, I'd suggest Steadfast Determination as your Will save will be rather low by 20. My second idea for you would be: Half-Orc Paragon 3/Barbarian 4/Bear Warrior 1/Warshaper 3/Bear Warrior +9 Half-Orc Paragon is also from Unearthed Arcana. This goes in a lot different of a direction than your original idea, but the strength bonuses get huge, plus it's less feat-intensive. I like Half-Orc so you can grab Channeled Rage. Either build has nice damage potential. |

| #7Maat_MonsJul 02, 2010 16:11:11 | If you've got some levels to spare, deepwarden 2 (Races of Stone) lets you use con instead of dex to AC and fist of the forest 1 (Complete Champion) gives you a bonus to AC equal to your con when you do not use armor or a shield. Deepwarden requires you to be a dwarf. If you're going for classes that add modifiers to your abilities, earth dwarf give you +2 str, +2 con, -2 dex, -2 cha. Given that you say you will use an 18 point buy, classes that replace your ability scores may be better. Master of many forms can ultimately give you 48 str, 9 dex, 32 con, and 17 natural armor. At level 9, when you'd first be able to use primeval form, master of many forms gives you 29 str, 13 dex, 27 con, and 11 natural armor. |
| #8lycanthrope0Jul 02, 2010 16:40:03 | sorry fixed that ws supossed to be 28 point buy. deep warden is idea |
| #9Omen_of_PeaceJul 02, 2010 18:04:08 | In the wildshaping vein, I like Wildshape Ranger 5/Master of Many Forms 7/X 8 (X can be MoMF +3 and/or Warshaper 5 and/or Nature's Warrior) There's perhaps less sheer power than with Primeval, but you're very adaptable which is better in the long run IMHO. At level 12 your base form should be War Troll, for the awesome offense/defense combination. Maat addressed the later levels (it's the Dusk Giant IIRC?) I also like Exalted Wildshape + Swift Wildshape: you can walk around in Blink Dog form, Dimension Door as a free action, morph as a swift and full-attack, which is nice in the first round. Martial artists are both versatile and powerful as well, and they bloom earlier than the wildshaping builds (which tend to come into their own at level 8 or so). For that there's the ToB build Compendium, or you can take a look at Yedra, one of my characters (but there is no level-by-level breakdown). |
| #10lycanthrope0Jul 02, 2010 18:24:52 | ive tossed around ToB ideas in my head a bit but ive never been fond of the book. dont get me wrong i dont think its broken i just dont personaly like it. i do like the wildshape idea i was thinking of going with shapeshifter from oriental adventures to get it and then master of many forms and warshaper something like chamelon barbarian 4/warshaper 3-4/MoMF 7/ xxx for the rest. will give me the ability to pounce ( lion totem barbarian ) and all the same as a wild shape ranger. all though a orc warlord with the lead the charge manuver and a strength in the 60s could be a fun way to just kill some thing in one round....... and i double checked with the DM Tome of Magic is out for this challange as well. i was thinking of adding binding into a character to gain some nice debuff stuff. |
| #11wings_of_peaceJul 03, 2010 1:58:31 | d2 Crusader for infinite damage perhaps? Or a dual steel splitting aptitude crossbow wielding Disciple of Dispatater with Lightning Maces for infinite ranged attacks? |
| #12Omen_of_PeaceJul 03, 2010 8:19:35 | You need Wildshape to enter MoMF. You can still dip Barbarian with my build if you want to, though it will delay MoMF. |
| #13lycanthrope0Jul 03, 2010 10:48:37 | all it would need is a 1 level dip into shapechanger prc from OA. witch i am allowed to use or divine minion cheese. i dont have the books infront of me at the moment but at what level would Wildshape ranger MoMFs get to be a war troll? just for some food for thought |
| #14Omen_of_PeaceJul 03, 2010 15:33:52 | Oh, divine minion is clearly better than anything else in here if you can access it - it's just stupid. For one LA it gives you the "equivalent" of level 11 druid wildshape... (For people who don't know about it: it's with only 1 crappy shape, but MoMF solves that tiny problem). While you're at it, you can become a partial Pun-Pun (partial because of the no spell restriction): after all, one of the early versions of Pun-Pun used Divine Minion IIRC. MoMF is the revised Shapechanger AFAIK? |
| #15wings_of_peaceJul 03, 2010 15:36:25 |
Correct, there was a note about it revising Shapechanger somewhere in the book. Made me sad ![]() |
| #16lycanthrope0Jul 03, 2010 16:19:28 | Dragon 318 updated OA to 3.5 most things were left unchanged but it was changed to give you wildshape = HD at its slow progression if your race qualified you for it. i am allowed to use that info soon as i get around to unboxing the Dragon collection.... but i have just over a month left so im not worried about that. |
