An optimizer considers it a challenge when the playing field is limited...

Dec 16, 2012 19:57:47 Okay, so normally i like optimising stupid ideas, or hilarious concepts. I dont usually game with over the top power gamers, so my sword and board paladin or asthetic knight pans out well enough.

I signed up for rolld20, and applied to every open game that looked interesting. one got back to me.

We are allowed to use PHB and one splat book. Which one is up to us, but just one.

So... which should I pick? Aside from an optimization scope, this bugs me because its bound to produce some pretty cliche characters... i digress. I know Cleric, Wizard and Druid need no splats to make them rediculous, while melee guys need splats to be vaguely fuctional. Wizard appeals to me simply because of the flavor, even though I know Druid will probably do everything needed 100 times better. Just PHB Races, while we are at it, because otherwise i would have been bat druid, and done.

So, if i pick human wizard, which book should i take? Is there a more interesting option?

Dec 16, 2012 20:25:34 Wizards are their spells. There's a few niche builds which are a bit more than that (shadowcraft, for instance, strongly depends on a prestige class and feats), but even they are basically their spells. Therefore, pick the Spell Compendium.

If it makes you feel better, you can think of that as code for "I pick the entire Complete series and an assortment of other books, but only the spells (which is all I'd care about anyway)".

Complete Warrior has a delcious PrC called the Justicar. Hog-tie 'em up boys! Yeeeeehaw!
