And in this slum...I shall build my temple

Fellow optimizers. I have been a lurker on these forums for a while but now I approach you with a question.

Our gaming group was tasked to create a temple in the slums of the capital city of our realm. The temple grounds used to be just a large mansion that an old aristocrat left uninhabited (for reasons of undeath) and our group moved in. We are relatively low level, but as the neighbourhood is poor and crime rate is high, we decided that a bastion of good would help the people out. The campaign is centered around the capital, so the temple will also serve as our base of operations. Our campaign is set in 99% generic core setting, with some minor alterations.

Our group is Chaotic Good, level 5, comprising of a...
- Cloistered Cleric of Corona
- Conjurer aiming for Ultimate Magus
- Duskblade going for Abjurant Champ
- Spellthief

The temple is dedicated to the forementioned Corona, Mistress of Twilight. Think Lathander the Morninglord, but She is thematically linked to the transitire?on between light and darkness, and as such, magic.

We currently have about 20k gold in wealth and grants. The temple grounds have been hallowed (with freedom of movement) and consecrated with ritual magic (a big hand to the mother church for that.)

So the question is: How would you go about optimizing a temple? What magics can we work to improve it and the area around it? How can we make it grind money for us while we adventure?

In my sig, you shall find a thing. It is called the buildomancer. I'm not suggesting using it straight up, but if you can get a hold of materials fairly easily, it's the way to go for construction projects even in moderation.

Master Li would definitely be welcome at our site. I´ll have to swing it past our GM to see his opinions. Any other ideas? Especially how can we make our congregation swell up like the Apocalypse was coming? Our Cleric is going to take leadership/landlord when she can, but what else might we try?

If you would like, I am ever available to roleplay Master Li. He works for a small fee of 33 gold an hour if it's a job he deems virtuous.

Alternatively, the competing services of Mad Old Lord Yang's Construction Fleet is available, but they have the higher price of three dark secrets, two fine gems, and a platinum piece. However, they operate on a retainer system, using that as the single flat fee presuming no dangerous conditions arise. There are legends that Mad Old Lord Yang is a real person, somewhere, waiting and working tirelessly, but it's been almost two hundred years since he was last seen and even those are just legends.

You could get a wizard to cast genius loci (CM p105) on your temple. With the right command it would at least make sure that it still stands when you return from adventuring. Of course you could hire quite a few guards for those 5k but who knows who is to trust. And an elder elemental should be quite an impressive guard at your lvl.

A forbiddance spell cast on the parts not open to public might be interesting as well.

As soon as your cleric gets his first follower you can let him work in your temple. A first lvl cleric could cast heal spells a couple of times a day for a small charge and with the appropriate craft skill he could earn some extra money.

If you don't mind a little cheese you could buy ladders and make him break them into 10' poles and firewood... :D
