Hi,
This is a similar post to one I've written on another board, but the lack of response there incited me to try here as well.

The setting:
The Setting
So our DM starts a new game and I decide to play a bard, something I had never played before. The setting being FR, I choose Star Elf, and anticipating all kinds of fun, choose Otherworldly and Precocious Apprentice (Alter Self).

I know, cheesy. Anyways. Not exactly sure what he's gonna do because the party composition was unknown, I boost CHA and keep all other stats lowish but decent (12-14 range). Also, I equip him with a bow and blade for the same reason.

Turns out that the others play the following:
  • RKV tripper,
  • Goliath barbarian charger,
  • God wizard,
  • Lesser drow gish,
  • twf swift hunter.
No range, and through some unfathomable luck, the bard actually held his own using his bow in the few fights we had so the others have come to expect the star elf to use it. It also appears that a ranged combatant is needed for the group anyways.

Can you use the Green Lady PrC from the Paizo boards? The link to it is in the Binder Handbook on this site. Basically it is a variant on the Tenebrous Apostate and adds 5 spellcasting (arcane or divine) and 4 EBL in 5 levels.. you need to worship Wee Jas though (but she grants planning domain). I think this would be a great way to fill out your build.
Other than that you could fix the BAB by taking Arcane Disciple (War) and use the Anima mage vestige metamagic thingie to persist Divine Power.

EDIT: link to the Green Lady and the Apostate Prestige class: http://paizo.com/paizo/messageboards/paizoPublishing/olderProducts/dungeon/generalDiscussion/archives/statsForTyralandiScrimm&page=1

EDIT again: If you worship Wee Jas, you'd loose out on elf domain probably, so you need to take that either at level 9 or use some way to get bonus feats if they are allowed. soem good ways are flaws, taint and location retraining (buy Iron will from Otyugh's Hole for 3000g and retrain it to Point blank shot).

(checks out). It would indeed be a really nice way to pad the build, but I am doubtful this would work. While the DM did not outright ban 3rd party and homemade stuff, he usually goes "nay" on it instead of "yay".

Plus, the campaign takes place in Forgotten Realms - sorry, it was a bit unclear, I have amended the original post. This means no Wee Jas. Looking at the really bad list of FR deities with Planning does not give out much. Amaunator would be cool and make more sense RP-wise, but the feat requirement is a killer for this build. Gond could work, specializing in the knowledge and invention aspects of the deity.

Other than that you could fix the BAB by taking Arcane Disciple (War) and use the Anima mage vestige metamagic thingie to persist Divine Power.

This is a nifty idea. I will need to invest in a +WIS item, but I think the char has 12, so it will just be a +2. That's quite manageable. This would mean that at 11th level, he could persist Divine Power and something nasty like Draconic Polymorph. Wowzie!

This looks bad for me. Flaws are out, taint is out and location retraining would probably get me hit on the side of the head with a DM's guide. I will probably be able to retrain precocious apprentice as soon as I hit second level spells, though.

Actually dude, I don't remember exactly where it was listed, but Greyhawk and Faerunian dieties are interchangable. There's a thread that discusses it somewhere. If your in Faerun you can worship Grawhawk deities and viceverci.

You mean location retraining gets you smacked with books, but persisting Draconic Polymorph doesnt? :P (Just kidding :D)

I really dont know alot about the FR deities I'm afraid, so can't help you there.

Hmm other Prestige classes you can use to fill out your build... Abjurant Champion? (d10, full bab, nice gish like abilities)

Mystic theurge.. (yugh) to advance your cloistered cleric casting a little bit?

Virtuoso for some extra bardic music effects and to go with the bard & sublime chord theme

Arcane preparation + Mage of the Arcane Order 4.. gives spell pool 2

EDIT: Doh! Warweaver 5 is also very nice, share the persisted Divine Power and (Sanctum) Draconic Polymorph through your tapestry.. make your party worship you

I'm not saying it will fly either. I was just daydreaming...

Some really nice choices. Now instead of being clueless, you've turned the exercise in me having too many choices. I particularly like the MotAO and the Warweaver possibilities.

Yeah.. its gonna be a though choise, I'm really not at all sold by the mystic theurge thing (was more a suggestion because you had that cleric dip), or the Abjurant champion (since you can fix your BAB with Divine Power).
But between Virtuoso, MotAO and Warweaver you have a very though choice to make.
Virtuoso 5 can shut down oposing casters using Jarring song, MotAO has spell versitality through the spellpool and Warweaver has insane buffing potential. So in the end you should pick the one that you like the best flavorwise and based on the campaign/other players.
