Another kind of God: Making an Immortal.

So I want to make another kind of God (not the control wizard). I want to make an Immortal: a character which at all levels is vertually impossible to kill. Someone who can walk amongst beasts, demons and mages uneffected.

I've taken A LOT from this build by GhostAxe, (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=1158171) but I think it can be much better.

I haven't worked out a 'purpose' for this character yet. What their role in combat is etc. But I do have a lot of spare feats etc.

Nixie (LA+3)
+8 cha !!!
+6 dex
+2 int
+4 wis
-4 str
Spell Resistance: 16+class levels
DR: 5/cold iron

1) Monk {feat} (mobility) {weapon finesse} {dodge}
2) Monk {feat}
3) sorcerer (Aesthetic Mage) [cha-> AC]
4) Paladin
5) Paladin [cha-> saves]
6) Arcane Duelist (feat)
7) Arcane Duelist [cha-> AC]
8) Hexblade
9) Hexblade [cha-> saves vs. spells] (feat)
10) Hexblade [mettle]

Monk 2 could be swapped for Sword Sage 2 so I can wear light armour.
With a cha of 32 and a dex of 24 at level 10 this guy has:
Touch AC: 40 :D
Saves: :D
Fort: 21
Will: 22
Reflex: 24
Spell resistance: 24
DR: 5/cold iron
Charm person: 3/day DC:25

So how can I make her MORE immortal?
What should I do with her? (in combat etc)

I'm most interested in the mid levels, so please don't just post yet another 20th level build.
Books: core, complete __ , psionisc, tome of battle, anything else which isn't overpowered from else where.

level 10 flux adept(dragon compendium) gives you regeneration 1/acid, fire, and a few other things. that means, to anything except those, you're totally invulnerable(pair this with warforged juggernaught for some fun)
alternatively, an illithid 15/illithid savant 5 who eats a tarrasque brain and a warforged juggernaught brain(polymorh gets them a brain), is totally invulnerable to anything but wishes.

Yeah, immunities is one way to go.
But you also need freedom of movement to save you from all the other attack types.

A massive touch AC is really nice cause it saves you from: melee dammage, trips, grapples, ranged attacks, touch builds (deep impact, wraith strike), touch spells, ray spells etc.

And the massive saves combined with evasion and mettle nearly makes me immune to everything else.

Don't like the "illithid 15/illithid savant 5" thing as it doesn't work until very high levels.

One thing to think about factoring in if you can figure out a good way (no persistified Greater Blink possible here) would be a decent miss chance source or two. The SR from Nixie is nice, but what about upping it to a Pixie for fun with (Su) Greater Invisibility?

I thought you meant Immortal. What ashame, that would be more interesting. :P Other than that it looks pretty cool. So what do you do about the wizard who collapses a building/mountain on you with stone to mud, or shrink item if the DM let's you target things like pillars?

just a little Advice:

skip Monk and Sorcerer alltogether - you do not really need them, since the Ascetic Mage (that requires 2nd lvl spells btw) has NOT "Monk Levels" as prereq

so:

Paladin 2/Hexblade 4/Arcane Duellist2 /Hexblade (remaining)

Featstwo flaws)
1st: Improved Unarmed Strike, Extra Smite, Ascetic Knight (neve be unarmed, 1d6 unarmed Strike (assuming 0 Level stacking)
3rd: Heighten spell
6th: Versityle spellcaster
9th: Ascetic Mage

rest doesn't matter

buy a Ring of Evasion and a +CHA Item ... you won't Need that much more ... possibly a feycraft weapon to gain "weapon finess" ...

the remainings shsould work out als you said

so, at hexblade 4 I get 1st level spells (one of which is a 2nd level wizard spell) so I qualify for Arcane Duellist and Ascetic Mage? Sounds great!

What is Heighten spell and Versitile spellcaster for?

What does Ascetic Knight do?

And what is the combat roll of this character?

Right, I just had a look at Aesthetic knight and Ascetic Mage again.

You are right about Hexblade working for Ascetic Mage. (not that I ever doubted you;)
Brilliant so that saved monk 2 and sorcerer 1!

I don't see the point to Aesthetic knight. Surely not just for the unarmed damage?!

And I won't be using flaws either. Far too cheesie!

This is looking REALLY good! nearly a straight Hexblade with 2xCha -> AC and saves! Has anyone done this before? It is already nearly as good as GhostAxe's level 20 build which took a team of COers 5 pages to find a reliable way to kill him with a level 20 wizard...

Where to from here? Ocault Slayer perhaps? Some way to get Freedom of Movement? (just the ring when I can afford it?) Some good manuverability to get around battle field control? (ToB could help here) What about Cleric 1 for some Massive devine feats?

Barbarian with Berserker strength ACF (PHB2) and con penalty (something around -5 should do) into Frenzied Berserker 4. Hit point damage will never kill you because you won't ever leave Berserker Strength (unless you roll high hp everytime).

About GhostAxe's build? Nah, just read the thread at the top. Not that they couldn't kill him, but many things were tried that diddn't work. That's already pretty good vs. Wizard 20. And if you're like me and play games at levels other than level 20, then I think this build could be very good against casters...depending on where it goes from here.

I think you only stay in Berserker strength permanently giving you +4 str etc. But you can only frenzy 2/day at normal duration...

I know people (I'm thinking of one specifically) that could likely take out this build with a level 10 wizard. Hell, I could assuming natural 20's always count as hits. I don't know of his build, but it shouldn't take 5 pages to kill something like your character with a 20th level wizard. Seriously. Time stop and delayed blast fireballs and forcecage. If you aren't dead yet, repeat. (I pass spell resistance on a 5 or higher, but with time stop I can try a few times anyways) If I was worried about you teleporting, I would probably cast dimensional anchor or whatever. And that's not even trying to do anything powergamed or optimized or anything. That's just the player's hand book and doing direct damage...

You definitely need immunity to fire. :P So many things do it, for a character like this it'd be silly not to.

haha. now I know why you said I was exaggerating! hahaha.

I wasn't suggesting a wizard 20 (or anything 20) couldn't beat this build. What I meant was: some COers had trouble beating GhostAxe's 20th level build (which I really like) and this one is on the way to being better, so that is a good thing.

Also, if people stopped just compairing characters at level 20, than the idea of 'casters always kill everything in all situations and any other build is a complete waste of time' would get pushed aside. I always make level 10 builds as it gives a better example of how the character is going.

Ah, sorry for the misunderstanding...

I am under the impression that if casters are played well and prepare properly, if able, for the task at hand, they will usually do best. It is essentially changing your class abilities every day in the morning. If you know what you need, then you essentially have a class tailor built for the day's encounters. Nondetection, or even nonmagical trickery (Pretending to do something your not if you think you are going to be scryed, did that once and it worked great) can completely take down a wizard by causing him to prepare badly.

People should compare characters at the level that they intend to play at. The level 20 standard is convenient for me since my group tends to play high level, high magic games and frequently gestalt. Yesterday I was playing a gestalted diviner/psion at level 19 who is exceedingly paranoid and never casts direct damage spells. Week before that it was a conjurer/artificer at the same level but with loads more money, and an army of fiendish monkey simulacra with siege weapons. (Everyone's playing a dual caster except for the master of many forms/monk, so it isn't a big deal) If your group plays 10th level games, you should compare things at 10th level, it only makes sense. :P

no worries. I agree about casters being generally better and being able to change all your spells daily is awesome power.

So with you're knowlegde of casters, how should I make this build closer to immortality/deadlier?

Non-Epic Epic Destiny Variant: Eternal Hero

The effects of time and death itself no longer apply to you.

Unless I'm mistaken

being a Nixie does not allow you to cast 2nd level spells spontaneously, thus you can't take Ascetic Mage (which requires 2nd level spontaneous spell use) at level 3

Correct!
I'll take it after Hexblade 4.

I would go for immunities, or at least resistances to common types of damage. Fire, cold, things like that. Fast healing 1 helps a lot, though I do not know where to get it. It essentially means you are back to full health for every encounter. By 10th level, wizards get scry. This means all evil wizards, large cities, armies and things like that are going to be scrying the hell out of everything, including you. The spell resistance helps, but it would be great to have some way to know if you are being scryed, or to negate any scrying. The former lets you mislead your opponent, which in some ways is better than not being scryed at all.

Unfortunately, I'm not to savvy on where to find everything in the books, or the know how of how to get it done, that's what I use these boards for. :P

What is Heighten spell and Versitile spellcaster for?

you do NOT qualify for AD and Ascet.Mage with hexblade 4 only, since you cannot cast 2nd lvl Spells yet ... the two mentioned feats are a combination for spontanous casters to let you cast 2nd lvl spell (use two 1st lvl slots for 1 2nd lvl - heighten a 1st lvl spell to second level - cast a 2nd lvl spell)

What does Ascetic Knight do?

And what is the combat roll of this character?

your combat role is still to be determined - I personally would play a Hexblade as Debuffer (take the Dark companion ACF @ 4th lvl) and secondary Tank - the Ascetic knight is absolutely optional, it simply gives you Unarmed Damage of a lvl 2 Monk (1d6) and thus the possiblity to use a reach weapon and still threaten adjecent squares

But an arcane spells base level is its Wizard level. Augment Familiar is a 2nd level wizard spell which the Hexblade can cast at level 4.
i.e. Can cast 2nd level arcane spells-> meets pre req.

ok then. What if I tried this:

Vererable Star Elf (first then) Ghost. LA:+5
[Cha-> AC]
1) Paladin ()
2) Paladin [Cha-> saves]
3) Hexblade (Improved unarmed strike)
4) Hexblade
5) Hexblade [Cha-> saves]
6) Hexblade (Aesthetic Mage) [Cha-> AC]
7) Arcane Duelist
8) Arcane Duelist [Cha-> AC]

So by ECL: 12 (DM gives us 1La free as a non full caster.)

Cha 18+3(Vererable) +4(ghost) +2(race) +2(levels) +6(item)= 35 [+12]

AC: 46 (touch)
+24 to all saves (vs. spells and abilities)
Heaps of immunities and incorperal.
Awesome Cha based abilities and...

...Rejuvenation (Su): "The “destroyed” spirit will often restore itself in 2d4 days. Even the most powerful spells are usually only temporary solutions. The only way to get rid of a ghost for sure is to determine the reason for its existence and set right whatever prevents it from resting in peace." :D

If Hex blade 4 really doesn't work for Aesthetic Mage, then I'll drop to Hex 3 and take Monk 1, Sorcerer 1.

short answer ... NO

there is no such thing as an arcane base level - simply put, you cannot cast 2nd lvl arcane spells @ lvl 4, only @8 - its like saying a cleric casting Haste qualifies for the prereq "arcane spells of 3rd lvl"

Truly immortal, huh?

Try an Ogre Mage/Half Red Dragon/Warshaper: Regeneration like a Troll, Immunity to fire

Regeneration converts ALL damage except acid, wich you get a Ring of Acid Immunity for to Nonlethal Damage

But: Warshapers are Immune to Nonlethal Damage

So: take a ring of Deathward with you and go for it^^

Until someone casts Mage's Disjunction, that would be baaadLaughing

Half-black-dragon (MM1) + War Troll (MM3) = UNKILLABLE, even in a null magic area.
Even fire doesn't hurt War Trolls.

Since you're bare-minimum 21st level at this point, a magic item surrounding you with an antimagic field shouldn't be hard to find, should it?

Proceed to kill all in sight.

Now who can convince their DM to let them start at ECL21?

I did once play a wizard who moved into 'Oracle Of The Green Star'. I'm not sure what book that prestige class is in, and you have only 1/2 casting progression, but it slowly turns you into a statue. You get to develop damage reduction, some immunities and things. But the important parts are:

A) You lose the ability to heal naturally, and the ability to be healed by positive energy, but you can now be healed by Mending spells. Since you are an arcane caster, you can learn all the mending spells, or make magic items out of them. I had an gift from a Dwarven God of The Forge who made my familiar into a mechanical owl, like the owl from Clash Of The Titans, who could mend my cracks for me.

B) I took Silent Spell, Still Spell and Spell Mastery for learning the few spells I would need to get out of chains and such, so that even if I was captured, I could eventually get out of it.

C) Perhaps most importantly: It is the only prestige class, that I know of, which actually gives you literal immortality. Not just staying young until you die for no good reason. You actually turn into a mobile statue, so you don't age or die! And even if you somehow end up dead, you can still be ressurected like a normal Elf/Dwarf/Hobbit/Human.

D) I also, being a wizard, prepared regular spells like Protection From Energy, etc.
