| #1bladesopharAug 07, 2009 13:40:45 | Unarmed fighter, where said fighter is a monk. My bad. Well I was looking into it and did discover that monks need prestige classes to excel. Can someone make me an awesome unarmed fighting build, standard feats, bonus feats and exalted feats included? The catch is there are somethings that are unchangeable about my character. Things that cannot be changed: +4 str -2 dex +2 con -4 int +2 wisdom (From the feral template) Taking the VoP (No matter what I'm taking this) Human Stats: The following stats can be rearranged as one sees fit: 14,14,14,14,16,16 I'm open to suggestions. Thank you in advance! P.S. One may also do skills if they want, but I have an idea of what skills I'll be taking. |

| #3danduAug 07, 2009 14:02:12 | This sounds like a job for... Note: You're really better off taking 4 levels of Thug Fighter, all 3 levels of Fist of the Forest, and I guess you have 2 levels left over for some PrC. Maybe take Drunken Master to 6? |
| #4SenevriAug 07, 2009 14:45:32 | This sounds like a job for... ...Superman? :P |
| #5dreamweaverAug 07, 2009 15:08:35 | Interesting. I'll see about working on a build. How about a general idea of where you see this guy? I mean, you mention taking VoP for rp aspect, what other things do you see this guy rp wise? Is he a big brutish melee guy with a heart of gold, a sneaky devil that strikes from the shadows in crushing attacks that likes to help out orphans in his spare time, etc...? |
| #6bladesopharAug 07, 2009 15:18:01 | Big brutish type guy with a heart of gold is where he is going. I would really really love to be as monk-like as possible. This character doesn't need to be an absolute god. But I will follow any build you post, as long as you hold my hand through it enough. I've dabbled in D&D before but I'm still learning a lot of the concepts. PS: The faster you can whip one up the better. And again, the more monk like the better. Like I'll gladly go straight 20 monk as long as it's o.k. |

Without the ability to fly vop will probably suck at later lvls every once in a while unless your frindly wizard has time to cast fly on you. There are other races that might be better to use as a base but I thought aasimar is pretty close to human. |
| #8felgorothAug 07, 2009 16:05:38 | Maybe try something like this 1: Sacred Vow: Human Feat (Book of Exalted Deeds), Vow of Poverty: 1st Level Feat (Book of Exalted Deeds), Vow of Nonviolence: Bonus Exalted Feat from Vow of Poverty (Book of Exalted Deeds), Stunning Fist: Bonus Monk Feat (PHB), +4 AC (Vow of Poverty), +4 on saves against your stunning fist (Vow of Nonviolence), +2 Diplomacy (Sacred Vow) 2: Vow of Peace: Bonus Exalted Feat from Vow of Poverty (Book of Exalted Deeds), Combat Reflexes and Deflect Arrows is really up to you, I always take Deflect Arrows just because, You emit a 20ft. radius of Calm Emotions will save to resist DC 10+half your character level+Cha (Vow of Peace), +2 natural Armor, +2 exalted bonus, and +2 deflection bonus to your AC (Vow of Peace), +4 Diplomacy (Vow of Peace), If anyone attacks you with a manufactured weapon it must immediately make a Fort Save (DC 10+half your character level+Con) or Shatter against your skin (Vow of Peace) 3: Power Attack (Players Handbook), Endure Elements (Vow of Poverty), +1 AC (Vow of Poverty) 4: +1 on all attack and damage rolls (Vow of Poverty), Nimbus of Light: Bonus Exalted Feat from Vow of Poverty (Book of Exalted Deeds), +2 Diplomacy and +2 Sense Motive against good aligned creatures (Nimbus of Light) 5: You don't need to eat or drink (Vow of Poverty) 6: Once again Improved Disarm or Improved Trip is really up to you, Improved Sunder: 6th Level Feat (PHB), Holy Radiance: Bonus Exalted Feat from Vow of Poverty (Book of Exalted Deeds), at will you may emit a 10ft. radius of bright light (20ft. shadowy area) any undead within 10 feet of you take 1d4 damage until they leave the 10ft radius (Holy Radiance), +1 AC (Vow of Poverty), as well as another +1 deflection bonus to AC (Vow of Poverty) 7: +1 on all saves (Vow of Poverty), +2 to any ability score (Vow of Poverty) 8: Touch of Golden Ice: Bonus Exalted Feat from Vow of Poverty (Book of Exalted Deeds), +1 natural armor bonus to AC, immune to detect thoughts, discern lies, and any attempt to discern alignment (Vow of Poverty) That's all I've got written out right now because I'm lazy |
| #9minstrelinthegalleryAug 07, 2009 16:15:15 | You must take fist of the forest- first off, it's amazing. Second you have a feral monk- it's a prestige class for feral monk- take it. Take the superior unarmed strike feat- it will raise your effect monk level by four for unarmed attack damage. You can spend those levels in a class that raises up your BaB- like, well even a fighter will do-that way you can take weapon specialization-nice. |
| #10bladesopharAug 07, 2009 17:01:37 | What book is fist of the forest in and would I actually do any fighting as a vow of peace monk? Never mind, I found the book it's in... but I don't have it. I'll try to find the class itself though. But the question about the peace monk still stands. |
| #11felgorothAug 07, 2009 17:28:32 | Yes, you can deal nonlethal damage with unarmed strikes as a monk, it's in the print of unarmed strike |
| #12bladesopharAug 07, 2009 18:48:42 | Being feral: It says my hit die changes to a d10. I'm a human with that template. Monk's hit die is d8. My DM rules I don't take the d10 hit die. I'm fine with that, but I'm curious is I actually SHOULD get the d10. |
| #13minstrelinthegalleryAug 07, 2009 21:31:02 | Templates that change type (such as feral) change hit dies for racial levels only. If your character was a bugbear his racial hit dice would change- if he's human he has no racial hit dice. |
