| #1alatarialFeb 11, 2009 15:18:29 | So last night my poor half-elf ranger died after being poisend (and 3 bad will saves) so now i want to make a spell arcane spell caster that are party lacks. So my quetion is what spell casting type and with what race is the best? A few things you need to know: *will be starting at level 14 *the outer members are a fighter, a rouge, a druid, and a knight *can pull from PHG, Arcane Power, Compleat Arcane, and any book you can name trust me my dad has it *i would like a class that can destroy almost anything with a few spells but im open for ideas |
| #2carnivoreFeb 11, 2009 15:21:52 | what books allowed? any house Rules? what races are allowed? :D |
| #3alatarialFeb 11, 2009 15:24:31 | any race is allowed (i do like elfs and half-elf) and anybook as long as you list what book the class/race came from!![]() |

That out of the way, what is the issue with preparing spells? A wizard needs no more time or effluvia to prepare spells than the druid of the party would. He doesn't have to go back to town to get new spells in his or her spellbook (though, admittedly, this may make things easier). To best answer your general question, though, we'd need to know what you're looking to play. 'Arcane Spellcaster' doesn't really cut it. Are you looking to play a booster, a blaster, a sniper, a 'God', a meleer, or what? Would you rather trick out a single spell or a small number of spells, or would you prefer versatility? Are you likely to 'go nova' on one or two encounters a day, or will you need the endurance to fight 10 a day? What books are you allowed to pull from? Generically speaking, I personally prefer Wizard over just about anything for pretty much every flavor of 'Arcane Caster', but can make anything work (and some things explode off the page). |
| #5carnivoreFeb 11, 2009 15:52:16 | heres a build thats lots of Fun, easy to Play, versatile..... Pixie(+4 LA) Warmage 2/ Warlock 3/ Eldritch Theurge 5 Warmage and Warlock are from Complete Arcane, Eldritch Theurge is from Complete Mage feats: Versatile Spellcaster[General](Races of the Dragon)Prerequisite: Ability to spontaneously cast spells. You can use two lower-level spell slots to cast a spell one level higher. Benefit: You can use two spell slots of the same level to cast a spell you know that is one level higher. For example, a sorcerer with this feat can expend two 2nd-level spell slots to cast any 3rd-level spell he knows. Fey Heritage[Heritage](Complete Mage)Prerequisite: Nonlawful alignment. Benefit: You gain a +3 bonus on Will saving throws against enchantment effects. Fey Skin[Heritage](Complete Mage)Prerequisite: Nonlawful alignment, Fey Heritage. Benefit: You gain damage reduction (overcome by cold iron) equal to 1 + the number of feats you have that list Fey Heritage as a prerequisite (including such feats that you take after gaining this one). For example, if you have Fey Skin and Fey Presence, you would have damage reduction 3/cold iron. This value stacks with any similar damage reduction you might have from your type, subtype, race, or class, but not from other sources, such as spells or magic items. Fey Presence[Heritage](Complete Mage)Prerequisite: Nonlawful alignment, Fey Heritage, character level 6th. Benefit: You gain the following spell-like abilities, each usable once per day: charm monster, deep slumber, and disguise self. Your caster level equals your character level. Combined with the DR/ Coldiron from Eldritch Theurge ... and Racial DR... you should have around DR 15/ Cold Iron you will have : 8th lvl Warlock abilities 7th lvl Warmage abilities... and can cast 4th lvl spells look up Pixies... see what they get ;) :D |

| #8carnivoreFeb 11, 2009 16:19:44 | nevermind :D |
| #9oprickFeb 11, 2009 16:23:34 | must.... resist..... *fails save* -play a generic spellcaster from UA, available in the SRD, found here:http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/genericClasses.htm#spellcaster -im all about it right now, and im suggesting it for everything. its mechanically equivalent to a sorcerer, but you can pick spells from the cleric, druid, and wizard list. (meaning you can cast healing spells, which your party seems to be lacking) the ability to pick some class features as feats, and choose your skill list is also a perk. you're not supposed to mix these with normal classes, but prestige classes work fine. you could go into arcane trickster without losing caster levels, &c. &c. |
| #10carnivoreFeb 11, 2009 16:30:30 | thats also very Nice.... Pixie Generic Spell Caster 5/ Incantatirx 5 Feats: Versatile Caster Iron Will Twin Spell open Feat Feat(Generic bonus) Feat(Generic bonus) Metamagic(Incantatrix Bonus) Metamagic(Incantatrix Bonus) lots to work with 10th lvl Generic caster(Arcane)... may select her spells known from the cleric, druid, and sorcerer/wizard spell lists..... 5th lvl max spell known :D |
| #11oprickFeb 11, 2009 17:33:46 | is incantrix 3.5? |
| #12phaedrusxyFeb 11, 2009 17:36:20 | is incantrix 3.5? The one in the PGtF is. :D |
| #13phoenix00Feb 11, 2009 18:18:43 | You want to play a Hathran. A prestige class from Players Guide to Faerun. It is a female spellcaster who is an expert in circle magic. Combine with the true believer feat and Boccob's X book from Complete Divine/Magic Item Compedium, Blessed Book, and Acorn of Far Travel and you can cast all your spells spontaneously. Acorn of Far Travel is here http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/fw/20040710a Besides boosting your caster level and other cool things with circle magic you can also heighten spells. Remember a heighten spell is just like a normal spell of its level thus with Rashemi Spirit Magic you can trade it out for another spell of the same level spontaneously. |
| #14EndarireFeb 11, 2009 21:05:02 | Arcane spellcaster defaults to Wizard. Wizards have the most options and rely on INT- a more useful stat- instead of CHA. If you want to be able to cast any of your Wizard spells spontaneously... Female Human Conjurer5/Incantatrix4/Hathran1/Incantatrix+6/Master Conjurer1/ArchmageX/FatespinnerX. If you prefer being elven... Dragonborn Fire Elf Conjurer5/Incantatrix10/Master Conjurer1/ArchmageX/FatespinnerX. Also, by my interpretation of secret page, you can cast it repeatedly to add a Wizard spell- even one you don't know or can't yet cast- to your spellbook to occupy only 1 page. Do this enough and you'll know all your Wizard spells like a Cleric knows all his Cleric spells. |
