Pixies are out ;) GM want to keep to core as much as possible (PHB II is part of the core books). I could push the "complete" serie, but that's about it. Group has a cleric, a fighter and a monk. I ended up with the skill monkey role *Happen to me a lot it seem), but I want to try to pack a descent punch nonetheless. I fiddled with a few builts, so here's the latest I got. Hobgoblin Rogue 16/ Fighter 4 BaB 16 Stats (with mods, and a free +1 at creation) STR 16, DEX 20, CON 14, INT 14, WIS 10, CHA 10 Feats 1 Point Blank Shot 3 Telling Blow (PHB 2) 3 Precise Shot (Fighter Bonus) 5 Weapon Focus (Short Bow) (Fighter Bonus) 6 Deadeye Shot (PHB 2) 9 improved initiative 9 Weapon Spacialisation (Short Bow) (Fighter Bonus) 12 improved Critical (Short Bow) 15 Improved Precise Shot 18 [Open Feat (Meaning I don't know what to put there yet)] Alternative Class Feature : Penetrating Strike (Dungeonscape) At level 20 he'll have a sneak attack of 8d6 and 3 rogue special abilities (improved evasion will be one of them of course). Pretty much standard rogue skills. One question I have tough. Does Craft (bowmaking) cover the arrow making ? If not, what craft does ? In combat I will stay close (withing 30 ft for the sneak attacks). Breaking LoS to get hide check and catch opponents unaware, use deadeye shot to score sneak attack when hide is impossible. I do not expect to use full attack every rounds. In fact I expect to attack every other round, but with full attack (and with full sneak attacks). Plan is mostly to drive my GM nuts by trying every antics possible to get hide checks. I might not be able to some crazy prestige class mix, but at least I'll have fun fighting ;) So here goes ! Comments ? Suggestions ? "This built sucks" comments ? And if so, why ? Game on mates ! |

Then switch that 16 str to a 16 Cha and buy some nice wands like hunter's eye- and other Ranger Spell goodies. If your not going to be attacking every second round you might as well be buffing. Also Sniping is only a move action. If you manage to work Manyshot into your build you can let off a volley as a standard and then hide as a move, and repeat each round. I think there is a tactical feat in Races of Wild that reduce the penalty for Hiding after sniping, if you convince you DM that is- you should have a excellent hide check anyway. Just food for thought... |
| #4userwithnonameApr 07, 2009 15:45:39 | Crossbow Sniper would be a nice skill indeed. I have the bad habit of overlooking that crossbow all too often. And a greater critical range mean that "Telling Blow" will be used more often. As far as manyshot goes, for a built that try to exploit the sneak attack it's rather weak (since only the first arrow benefit from the sneak attack). But I must admit that it has some benefit. Sniping with 4 arrow at once (even if only one is a sneak attack) is still pretty darn fun ;) And that feat from Races of the Wild you were speaking of is "Able Sniper". +2 vs flat footed target less than 30 feets away and +4 on the hide check made after sniping (reducing the penality rom -20 to -16. Still harsh but every bits count !). Interesting suggestions that deserve some pondering ! |
| #5carnivoreApr 07, 2009 15:49:52 | you could try this: Rogue 14/ Horizon Walker 6 Dimension Door at will every 1d4 rounds.... and lots of nice bonuses :D |
| #6userwithnonameApr 08, 2009 10:03:37 | you could try this: The "Shifting" terrain mastery entry seem to say that you can use the dimention door ability only on planes with the "shifting" trait (Like limbo and the shadow plane). Or did I misunderstood that ? |
| #7carnivoreApr 08, 2009 11:28:10 | The "Shifting" terrain mastery entry seem to say that you can use the dimention door ability only on planes with the "shifting" trait (Like limbo and the shadow plane). Or did I misunderstood that ? it works on any planes.... it simply gives you a Spell-like ability Shifting (Planar): You instinctively anticipate shifts in the reality of the plane that bring you closer to your destination, giving you the spell-like ability to use dimension door (as the spell cast at your character level) once every 1d4 rounds. You gain a +1 insight bonus on attack and damage rolls against outsiders and elementals native to a shifting plane. when it talks about "the reality of the plane" it refers to the plane you are currently on... similarly to the way the rest of the Planar mastery powers work, you dont need to be on any of those planes for you to benefit :D |
| #8userwithnonameApr 08, 2009 18:56:19 | Ha, i didn't read the entry right then. Dimension door every 1d4 rounds sure is a nice ability ;) |
| #9gorfnad_the_shiznitApr 08, 2009 23:52:03 | If you can push for the complete series then a swift hunter build might be more effective. |
