Jun 15, 2008 1:04:43 Okay, so I'm making a character, a divine caster (preferably neutral, though could go good), and i'm thinking spontaneous casting with some cool domains, if i go cleric. i'm using the core deities, minus obad-hai, plus the four elemental deities from faerun (akadi, istishia, grumbar, and kossuth).

But i also need a ranged character. Archer. I could just do cleric with a crossbow, but that's really bland. Divine casters aren't really known for their ranged power (other than some druid spells, non-core). I'd like a Kossuth fire-archer type build, but i'd go with whatever deity fit the flavor and the mechanics. What combinations can I do? what;s the best spellcasting class to go to support that?

Either Cleric or Archivist are fantastic archers. Elfs can pick up the Elf domain, which gives them Point Blank Shot, and they're already proficient with the Longbow, and Planning to help get the DMM Persist line. Archivists get every spell in the game (basically), and since it includes the Ranger spell list, you get a lot of stuff that aids in archery (and can be persisted).

Jun 15, 2008 1:51:37 Thanks, and thanks; this looks like a promising start. and looking at the first thread link, I totally forgot about Zen Archery. I'm an idiot, it seems.

EDIT: yet as i look at the feat selection and requirements, the dexterity requirements just get higher and higher, meaning i'll need my dex as high as i can get it, so even if i'm also buffing and raising wisdom, its a pretty useless feat. unless i can just get them that high through items and a generous DM and his Bag of Houserules.

Jun 15, 2008 9:39:42 Depending on your archery style, you don't need more than a 13 in Dex for the basic feats. Everything else is fairly extraneous and Zen Archery is a solid choice for archery divine casters.
