I know theurges are generally rough to play without optimization (read: early entry) because being multiple spell levels behind the curve just flat-out sucks, and you need two different theurge classes to make the dual-sidedness go to 20. Worst of all, I cannot seem to find an early entry shenanigan to make Archivist/Erudite/Psychic Theurge work. Which is a shame, as if it -could- work, you have a character with the potential to crack off any spell in the game. I know I can make Erudite 4/some class with good Fort progression/Ur Priest 1/PsyTheurge work (no, you don't actually need to be able to cast spells to take Spell Focus (evil) to qualify for Ur-Priest) but you lose the "I can cast anything remotely divine" of the Archivist, plus, you have to get your DM to allow Ur-Priest, which is generally regarded as a whole other level of cheese I don't want to get into. Any ideas? |

Ur-Priest may have been considered cream cheese, early on. Compare 5th level spells to 1st level spells ... not so good. So UrP shows up on dual casters, and not much else. Erudite 7-ish going to 10 later / Ur 2 / PT 7 (cuz that's all you need) If you are dead set on using Archivist, there is a tinsy trick to use: Leadership pick a Cleric (or similar) have it pick Imbue with Spell Ability feat, www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/imbueWithSpell... and make sure your deity and the cohorts deity are bff's. Erudite 7 ish / Archivist 1 with above trick / PT 6 then seesaw Erudite +1 / PT +1 up to 10 / Erudite into Epic / Epic PT is easy to do. This isn't gonna be as strong as the Ur combo Archivist 3 (or better) / Ardent 2 into Monastic Servant of Aupensser 7 / PT 10+ is certainly better than Erud+Arch. Cleric 1 + goodies / Ardent 2 as above is a standard. The early entry handbook for these combos is around here somewhere (?!) or over at brilliantgameologists. |
