| #1red_orbitMay 19, 2008 11:39:33 | Character is currently level 4 in game (Ranger 2, Fighter 1, Scout 1), goes by the name of Asonin Nimutasa and is a female elf. Backstory if you'd like to see, careful, it's a mouthful. Little rough, I need to clean up a few things here and there. I spent a couple days thinking it up and putting everything in place, spent a few hours rushing to type it up a day or so before we began to play, so if there are a few things out of place, please forgive me =) backstory **Personal Info** Asonin Nimutasa, female elf Note: Asonin Nimutasa is not her given name, or even her adult name, it's the name she currently uses, from here on in Asonin will be used to label her but it is not the name she went by before events shaped her life into what it is now. **Family Background** Asonin grew up in a small mixed race village, and is the youngest daughter of an elven carpenter. Her mother, who is a seamstress, was originally married to a human but then remarried an elf after he passed on. Has two brothers and one sister, older brothers are both half elves, sister is elven. Older brother left the village 5 years ago to find his fortune as a swordsman for hire, he joined up with a traveling band of swordsman who visited the village briefly and spent a few nights there. **Backstory** 3 and a half years ago her village was attacked. A large mercenary group came to the village, surrounded it and declared that they were taking possession of all the people's belongings and the people themselves. Many resisted and those that did were killed, those left alive were imprisoned. The Merc group took inventory of the villager's belongings, from personal effects to the season's harvested crops. They took what they needed for their own supplies and began to cart off other things to be sold. Many people were stripped of all their belongings and even portions of houses were destroyed for their materials. The group began to systematically kill the mature adult survivors and gather the children and youth to be taken away as slaves. The initial attack was timed and staged in such away as to be sure to maximize the number of people that would be in their homes in the village, so that as many villagers as possible could be rounded up and herded into the village square to be kept under control and eventually sorted and disposed of. The attack didn't catch everyone at home, or herd all the villagers. A small portion of the villagers were able to escape, either because they were not at home at the time or because they were able to fight their way out of the herding plan while it was starting at the outskirts. Asonin's brother returned to the village before the attack began, he searched out his sister and dragged her out of the village, when they saw the attack begin and realized they could do nothing about it they ran for their lives and made it away from the village. Asonin's brother begged her to run away with him further from the village to get as far away from the mercenaries as possible, but the she refused. She convinced him to help her find others from their village that may have escaped. The pair found a few escaped villagers here and there, together as a group they observed the activities of the mercenaries. They hoped that they would eventually let the people go once they took what they wanted. When they saw that there weren't just passing on and saw just how many of the villagers they had killed in the initial herding process they vowed to do what they could to free the remaining villagers. In the weeks that passed, while the mercenaries went through the process of sorting the villager's belongings and preparing the farmer's crops for shipping, the band of villagers raided their attackers at night and day, setting fire to carts ready to be shipped off and freeing a few villagers here and there. At first the mercenaries did little to stop them but to fight them when they saw them, then they started to send out search parties and baited traps for the raiding bands. The free villagers began to die in twos and threes as they tried desperately to free their neighbours. When the free villagers had been whittled down to a dozen, the mercenaries discovered their make shift base and attacked, scattering the remaining villagers and hunting them down piece meal. Asonin's brother was wounded when the mercenaries first found their base, Asonin grabbed her brother and escaped on horseback in the chaos. The two rode for a day and a night before Asonin finally stopped, her brother was dieing and their was nothing she could do about it. They were too far from any other group of people and her feeble attempts at trying to stop the bleeding where just not enough. Asonin hid them in a cave as they waited for her brother to die. Half a day after they had stopped fleeing, Asonin's brother began to talk to her about his time away from the village. He told her about all the places he'd been and the teachers he'd learned from and the amazing adventures he'd gone on. He told her that the mercenaries were here because of him, he confessed that the band of swordsman he'd journeyed with when he first left the village were a part of the group that had attacked their village just recently. He told her that the merc group was part of traveling village of swordsmen for hire who were always approached to do work here or there and who sent out small bands of men and women to do work for all kinds of people, but a group large enough to also participate in wars to suppliment armies and such. They did a lot of good work and did work for all kinds of people. Not all their work was decent though, the high paying jobs, the jobs that kept the whole organization going and everyone fed where dirty jobs. Asonin's brother told her the last mission he'd gone one was to sneak into a village of an opposing king's land and burn the crops before they could be harvested. He didn't want to go initially, but agreed to go when he was told that the group leader in charge of the mission had specificlly requested his participation, he met with the assigned group leader who took him on board and they traveled to where they needed to go, they did what they had to do and got the mission done but after the mission had been complete, the very second they'd lit the crops, the group leader handed out maps with "x"s marked on different houses within the village. The leader instructed the group to split into smaller teams and go to their assigned houses, they were to kill everyone inside those buildings and then leave the village and make their way back to headquarters. Asonin's brother refused, he ran away from the group and fleed to the headquarters, he told them everything and was surprised to find out they knew already, that they had planned it, he clued into the darker side of things and announced his intentions to leave for good. they threatened his life for trying to leave, he escaped again, they gave chase and drove him to his home village where they carried out their grizzly attack. Asonin's brother died when the last of his confession had left his lips. Asonin fled the cave and ran as far and as fast as she could until she collapsed, she had nothing left, no village, no family and now not even any pride left in her brother. **Immediate Backstory** It's a year and a half since the attack on her village, she's changed her name (to Asonin from the original), she's travelled a far distance from where the village was (like...a continent away far away LOL), and she's told no one about the attack. She took the skills she learned while acting like a guerilla and put them to use as a ranger. For the sake of the beginning of the adventure, she lives on the outskirts of the city/village in the woods and works as a guide of sorts in the deep forests for travelers if need be, otherwise she lives off the land and hones her skills for the day when she can return and take vengence upon her brother's killers. **Personality** she's plagued with doubts and the constant feeling of futility, she's filled with malice for her village's attackers although you'd never find these three emotions on her face. she's very warm to people but very closed about her personal feelings or desires, she enjoys the company of people and asks questions about them and their life but also values the time she has alone on her own in the forests. it's not often that she travels into the village/city to meet people, only when she has something to trade or is overwhelmed with wanderlust. She's a very strong minded person, very much a "better to die on your feet, then to live on your knees" attitude towards things, she'll fight and fight and fight until the very end and then before it gets too bad or hard and difficult will get up and go, she's also very much a "better to run away and live to fight another day", but only at the bitter end |
| #2apupunchauMay 19, 2008 12:09:07 | I guess first to see the thread so I'll be the first to say check here: http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=854152 I tired an OotBI build myself but like will happen here.it'll get shot down as there really are far superior ways to get bonus ranged damage. |
| #3gafferMay 20, 2008 9:48:56 | IIRC, OotBI damage requires a full round action (ie: no greater manyshot). I'd dump it. Actually, I could see 2 levels (or 1 of Exotic Weapon Master - Greatbow) for no AoOs in combat. I'd take more Ranger and less Scout (3,4,or 5 levels) for better BAB. Might wanna consider dumping Fighter too... Actually, here: http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=854152 |
| #4apupunchauMay 20, 2008 11:00:16 | I like to finish PrCs so this is far from a supremely optimized build but it is fun and utilizes the scouts skirmish ability through out. Scout 6/Ranger 4/Highland Stalker 10 make sure to get Improved Skirmish and Greater Many Shot. |
