There's one problem though, this build using the Telflammar Shadowlord which our DM might not accept. It uses up 6 levels and reduces the DC to 24. What classes should I put in place of these 6 levels? Here's the level run down: Rog1 Dodge, TWF Rog2 Ftr1 Weapon Finesse, Mobility Ftr2 Spring Attack Rog3 Asn1 Blind-Fight Asn2 Asn3 Asn4 ITWF Asn5 Asn6 Asn7 Ability Focus: Death Attack Telf1 Telf2 Telf3 GTWF Telf4 Telf5 Telf6 Quicken Spell-like (Dimension Door) Asn8 Asn9 |

Death attacking is not overpowered in itself either. If FR is a go, you should check out the Monk of the long death Prc (worse than shadowlord), and make your build more 'monky' as it has Death attack progression. There is a race with racial Death attack as well. What i advise against is getting GTWF, get TWF and the gloves that grants ITW (MIC) to save to feat, You won't hit anything with a third iterative attack, IMO. |
| #3voidboyApr 05, 2008 12:09:43 | About the build: Spring attack needs 4 BAB, so yo have to delay that. Blind-fight? Is that a prereq. for TSL? Otherwise: ditch it. |
| #4gemyApr 05, 2008 13:43:54 | Basically he simply doesn't want to do involve other campaign settings in his campaign, which I can understand, also. This is just the build I found. None of it is set in stone, so I am open for change, and as far as the 'Monky' idea goes, it's nice, but I don't want a monk, I pretty much want a rogue (or rogue equivalent) that specializes in assassinating. |
| #5neverothApr 05, 2008 14:25:32 | Have you considered a Daring Outlaw with Able Learner and maxed-out UMD? It lacks Death Attack, but the benefits more than make up for it, if you ask me. |
| #6gemyApr 05, 2008 14:55:24 | Daring Outlaw? Isn't that good only with Swashbuckler? I mean, I've thought about it and thought of a interesting build myself. Rogue 3/Swashbuckler 3/Invisible Blade 5/Assassin 9 Only problem is, we start at level 10, so when I do get Deathstrike (level 12), the DC will only be roughly 16 (considering I have a 20 intelligence) What do you guys think? |

What classes should I put in place of these 6 levels? How did you get into the assassin at level 6? Sounds like someone decided to cheat their dm.. Assassin requires 8 ranks into skills that fighters do not have, and are cross class at best, meaning that with 2 levels of fighter you could only have 7 ranks into said skills and thus not be allowed to become an assassin yet... |

Skills: If a skill is a class skill for any of a multiclass character's classes, then character level determines a skill's rank. |
| #9neverothApr 05, 2008 16:03:13 | Daring Outlaw? Isn't that good only with Swashbuckler? Yes it is. When I said Daring Outlaw, I meant rogue 3 / swashbuckler 17 (or 4/16). If you get Able Learner, you get to keep all rogue skills as class skills, and with the int synergy working for you, you'd have a lot of points to spend as well, which would essentially make you a rogue. Only with much, much better staying power. And overall power really. Even against opponents that make ordinary rogues look ridiculously weak. With UMD maxed out, you could easily replicate any of the spells on the assassin list with a little gold (and ten tons of amazing spells that aren't). Craven, well... If it was superb for straight rogues, it's even better for DOs. Death Attack is a suboptimal choice. If you can't get away with the pounce build, I would sincerely suggest you to drop the idea altogether. It comes down to realizing one thing: to be an assassin means to practice the profession of killing, not to join a mediocre prestige class. And I assure you, there is nothing an assassin can do that a Daring Outlaw can't do better, and especially if you have to do it solo. The only two exceptions to this are: 1) The use of poisons - Generally not worth the trouble, but if you like the flavour, you can always take the Poison Use alternate rogue feature from Drow of the Underdark, and sacrifice Trapfinding for it. 2) Hide in Plain Sight - Good, but not as good as Improved Invisibility... and with a DO build, you don't really need to hide when fighting breaks out anyway. If, however, you really want to have HiPS, try to get the Dark template instead. It's quite good. Just my 2cp. |
