I was thinking of ways to continually reuse ammo, to be able to enchant it without having to repeat the enchantment cost, and then it hit me. Aurorum heals itself when held together. Granted the DM would have an easy time saying no, but does this sound right to you guys? (This is especially true of ammo that's made fully of metal, like shuriken, or possibly darts.) |

| #3xakypshalornJun 03, 2009 13:35:23 | From what I read in the Book of Exalted Deeds, Aurorum repairs itself in the same state as it was when broken, including magical properties. I remember reading a thread where it was debated once, but I didn't see a conclusion. |

| #5phaedrusxyJun 03, 2009 13:53:01 | Raptor Arrows, can they be further enchanted? All relics can be further enchanted. This is discussed in the section detailing how relics work in the MiC. |
| #6sofawallJun 03, 2009 14:42:03 | Cool, it's just I've had no experience with them before. I hereby love relics. Specifically Raptor Arrows, because Bane on everything is awesome. |
| #7phaedrusxyJun 03, 2009 15:40:39 | The Correlon relic bow (Bow of the Wintermoon) is awesome, too, and you can actually use both of them together if you're Neutral Good or Chaotic Good. The bow auto-adjusts for strength and only costs 1000 gp more than a normal +1 composite longbow. You won't get the "extra" benefits of the bow (Frost and Drow Bane), but who cares, really? That's good enough. :D The main drawback on the arrows is the cost, and the fact that they don't reappear until the next round (or the end of the round... I forget. Works out to the same...). So you'll need multiple ones to do a full attack, and at 6,000+ gp each that's not cheap. |
| #8sofawallJun 03, 2009 22:09:46 | Yeah, but you're getting Bane on every enemy. That's pretty awesome. I'd seriously pay 6000 every few levels as my iterative attacks go up. Although at level 6 it may be a bit expensive, needing 3 if hasted... Oh well. |
| #9tytalusJun 04, 2009 4:26:38 | The item loses its magic when it is broken. It doesn't come back. Do you have a quote for that which excludes Aurorum's reforming ability? Aurorum has been the standard suggestion for weapon-focused builds on this board as a means to deal with sundering. The wording of Aurorum does seem to include magical properties ("The broken pieces bond quickly and seamlessly, restoring the item to its previous state."), assuming that the previous state was magical. |
| #10frostwolfJun 05, 2009 10:26:03 | Masterwork livewood arrows? Would those work? |
| #11BalthanonJun 05, 2009 11:45:13 | I would probably allow something like this personally-- it's not like ammunition is really a major limitation unless you're playing a resources thin game where you have very little access to shops. And you still need special material arrows for some enemies. Assuming livewood has a similar property (I don't recall whether it actually reforms when broken or just has something equivalent to fast healing) that would probably be a better fit for arrows though. I suspect most of the "50% destroyed" number is the shaft snapping. It would probably be priced higher than standard ammunition though-- maybe 5 times the amount of standard ammunition since the fletcher could expect much less repeat business. |
| #12naanomiJun 05, 2009 12:06:57 | I know it is a houserule... but in my games I let people take 'sturdy ammunition' at X20 cost, and regular weapon costs to enchant. I would probably let the Aurorum work, as I have seen it widely accepted that it restores magical properties. |
