| #1Flanagan69Aug 27, 2010 6:06:53 | HI to all! It's been quite a long time I'm not on these pages, since I had some various problems. But I'm back, now! A frid of mine (the same) chose to make a campaign in the world of Ravnica, BUT now he wants to use the Pathfinder rules to avoid me min/maxing. Obviously I ask to you how can I exploit the system in my favour. My Idea is to make a Cleric-tank from the Boros guild. My DM is being very nice, conceding me that Boros clerics start with Combat casting for free and proficiency on all martial weapons, armors and shields. My idea was of one human cleric with Strength and Fire Domains, with full plate and a two- handed Falchion, who can hold his own in a fight, buff himslef through enlarge person from the first level(and others in later levels), blast away with Burning hands and (later) FIreball and heal his comrades through Channel energy. My idea of feats is: 1- Improved Initiative, Extra Channel, Combat Casting (free) 3 - Power Attack 6 - Cleave That is for starters, maybe at 9 I would take Leadership, but I don't think we will be able to play through 7th level at all. What do you think? May it work? Am I trying to do too many things? Please, help me! Thanks in advance. |
| #2Flanagan69Aug 30, 2010 5:08:10 | Please, can anyone help me? Many saw this thread but no one answered, I nedd some help from you, masters! |
| #3SenevriAug 30, 2010 9:14:20 | Why not buff OTHERS with the enlarge person? Also, consider a longspear - enlarged, it has a reach of 15ft. Trip and disarm with impunity. Strength domain is not good for a warrior, unless you take Ferocity subdomain. War and Glory are good. I wouldn't recommend Extra Channel at first, unless your charisma sucks... and maybe not even then. cure-all 3d6 is relatively a lot for a day. You're picking cleave. You DO know it's a skirmish feat which cannot be used on a full attack, right? |
| #4tr0llmanAug 30, 2010 12:17:30 | Why not buff OTHERS with the enlarge person? You DO know that he's not going to have any full attack options until level 8, level 7 at the outside, and he doesn't think the campaign is going that far? Anyways, if you're playing PF, you get feats at level 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9. If you have the Advanced PG, take the Plant Domain with the Growth subdomain. Enlarge Person, self only, swift action, 3+wis times per day. |
| #5Flanagan69Aug 30, 2010 18:05:42 | Thank you so much for now. Now I will study the Advanced PG guide and ask the master what I will b e allowed to use. We'll see soon with news. |
| #6Flanagan69Aug 31, 2010 3:00:10 | Ok, I'm done. Do you think that if I choose Strength as a domain and convince by background reasons my DM to give me the Growth subdomain power in place of the standard one would be a good idea? And Fire a a second domain? I'd love to be able to throw around some fireballs, some fire resistance plus it fits the fluff just perfectly. I find War Domain to be a little lackluster, and Glory Domain is good, but since I can only memorize 1 domain spell per level a day, I would have to choose between so many choices, and one negates the other. About the Feat selection, what would you choose for my idea of cleric? I don't want to specialize in battle maneuvers, so is Extra Channel overkill (or over-heal) at 1st? Thanks a lot! |
| #7SenevriSep 03, 2010 6:36:07 | If you want to memorize, say, fire domain blasty, pick a domain which grants powers you like. I ignore most of the domain spell lists, anyway (although some of them ARE tasty). |
| #8awaken_D_M_golemSep 03, 2010 14:59:42 | PF wasn't something I paid much (any) attention to ... but there hasn't been much indication that CoDzilla has been nerfed. More feats = slightly more fun. Edit - WOW Your DM gave you CC feat, and Martial Weapons ?! CoDzilla - what CoDzilla ?? Heck, you can be a Cleric Archer, on top of whatever. Roleplay ... "Hey guys, my Deity chopped off my hand last night, because of what my hand did ." |
| #9Flanagan69Sep 04, 2010 4:54:28 | Thanks again! What is exactly a CoDzilla? About the Cleric Archer , I was looking after it, but I'd rather have a melle cleric full buffed and enlarged who wades through lines of enemies already weakened by a Fireball. The Cleric Archer is so good to deserve such punishment from the deity? |
| #10FireclaveSep 04, 2010 5:32:57 | What is exactly a CoDzilla? In D&D 3.5, clerics and druids are overpowered by a significant margin. A cleric or druid can fill the role of several classes at the same time and do their jobs just as good or better than they while they are at it. If played fully to their strengths, a Cleric Or Druid will stomp though a campaign with the same level of destruction caused by Godzilla stomping though Tokyo, as the addage goes. And even if you don't try to optimize them at all, their inherent strengths and versatility usually makes them a far more effective choice over many other classes (basically any class that's not a full caster). Though YMMV to what extent. Or to simply quote OOTS, "I am a druid. I have special abilities more powerful than your entire class." Though I'm not familiar with Pathfinder. So I don't know how much was changed in regards to inter-class balance. |
| #11Flanagan69Sep 04, 2010 6:11:46 | Pathfinder is a sort of D&D 3.75, with classes more balanced and less crazy combos. I'm not an expert but the main differences in Cleric class are the lack of starting heavy armor proficiency and the change from turning undead attempts to channeling energy to heal or harm in an area for 1d6/2 levels. My Dm will grant me CC as a bonus feat and proficiency with all martial weapons and armor as a fighter. Since the old Divine Metamagic is long gone, how should I build my character most succesfully? |
| #12awaken_D_M_golemSep 07, 2010 17:46:42 | If you can take Leadership at level 6, you take it. Ask your DM if you could do a secret Gestalt build at level 6. If he/she says : "No , period." ... then you can man giggle all the way to the bank. Leadership > Gestalt ; really. So let's see : free combat casting feat , check free almost Fighter stuff , check Leadership available , check Do you really need to "optimize" some more? There is a Cleric guide over at BG , don't act too bored (wink). |
