| #1badgerx3Aug 10, 2009 1:06:45 | I want to play a bard for a current campaign, as my DM suddenly decided TOB is broken( )Level 13 Phrenic(free)Half-Nymph(broken homebrew template) Lesser Assimar Stats are something like: Strength:14 Dex:18 Con:16 Wis:19(I believe) Int:18 Cha:40(Don't ask) Feats: (flaw)Fey Soul(from some 3rd party book of the DM:It allows me to use my charisma for HP) Gold:92,000 While I want a bard, I can't decide on any prestige classes or feats. Mind helping? Goal:Buffer, debuffer, and fairly competent melee combatant Houserules:Able to apply metamagic for free if I can make a spellcraft check(10+spell level) to add it to a spell. If I add more than one metamagic, it adds another +10 and so on. Books available:All 3.5 and 3.0, some dragon is fine if you give me the number. 3rd party is fine as well |

| #3SenevriAug 10, 2009 4:12:35 | Hm. Bard 6/War Weaver 1/Combat Medic 3/Sublime Chord 2/War Weaver +4/Combat Medic +2/X 2? Basic. Or Nanoha? Or Lightsabers? or just optimizing the heck out of Improvisation? Or.... |
| #4danduAug 10, 2009 8:58:16 | Bard5/Mindbender1/Bard2/Virtuoso2/Sublime Chord2/Virtuoso8? |
| #5phaedrusxyAug 10, 2009 9:09:52 | my DM suddenly decided TOB is broken( This statement, combined with these others... is pretty freakin' hilarious. I don't think your DM would recognize balance if a dump-truck-full of it fell on his head. I bet he bans psionics too, huh? Phrenic(free)Half-Nymph(broken homebrew template) Lesser Assimar Cha:40(Don't ask) (flaw)Fey Soul(from some 3rd party book of the DM:It allows me to use my charisma for HP) This is a FLAW? ![]() Houserules:Able to apply metamagic for free if I can make a spellcraft check(10+spell level) to add it to a spell. So everyone is a super-Incantatrix? Wow... this is quite an astonishing mix of overpowered options... Hmm... is there a way to work Sublime Chord, Ur-Priest, and War Weaver all into one build? Or does this actually have to be a bard? What about a Dread Necromancer 1/ Rainbow Servant 10/War Weaver 5? Hmm... and then add enough levels of Spellguard of Silverymoon to be able to stick personal spells on other people. And take Persistent Spell (which you can apply for free... to your whole party... with one casting of the spell...). |
| #6badgerx3Aug 10, 2009 15:09:22 | This statement, combined with these others... is pretty freakin' hilarious. I don't think your DM would recognize balance if a dump-truck-full of it fell on his head. I bet he bans psionics too, huh? This guy isn't a normal DM and is often enough the group diplomancer(though it doesn't get as nearly bad as it does here). Psionics? The guy watches Psionics with a close eye. Get this:He laughed at Treantmonk's guide and think that wizards are so useless a barbarian can take them!(I plan to prove him wrong soon enough) This is a FLAW? Nah, I obtained it from a flaw. Or does this actually have to be a bard? What about a Dread Necromancer 1/ Rainbow Servant 10/War Weaver 5? Super-Incantixes? I wish, but the party doesn't understand my love of casters. It doesn't NEED to be a bard, but I like all the Cha synergy. Unfortunately for me, the main BBEG is a deity(can't remember exact divine rank) lich cleric that will own up on me as a DN. Funny enough, I proposed a DN at first but he said the Lich would make me his biatch. I know for cha synergy, that Sorc is obviously the best. However, they're a bit overplayed in my group(never full sorcs, but sorc dips nonetheless). It's shameful for me to admit, but the game is actually gestalt level 10, but I don't wanna blow his game to hell and back. For not gestalting, he'll give me like 3 levels. |

This is so broken that it deserves snapping like a dry twig. I'd throw out 'usual' bard plans and load up on metamagic and spellcraft. You could power up your charm person to cast it as a 9th level spell, at base save DC19 (+12 for your CHA) for a spellcraft check of DC11? You need to be doing that. And more. I'd pretty much load up on bardic charms, crowd control, and other fun and just pour metamagics onto them. They'll be pretty irresistible, with stupidly high DCs. Just don't tie yourself to enchantment too much, and play your hand carefully, as I can see you running up against a lot of undead and golems when the true horror of the situation settles on the GM. I'd probably go for Bard2/Human paragon3*/Lyrical Thumaturge/Sumblime chord. Load up heavily on metamagic. If the GM is dumb enough to tell you the point of the entire campaign (what is he...like 12?), then plan for it and get some anti-lich lovin' goin' on. Although by then, you should have a few choice charmed minions to kick his butt with. *For the feat and stat-up. Although the stat-up is moot in the face of 40CHA... so maybe just straight bard 5... |
| #8siranuiAug 11, 2009 4:59:48 | I'd also like to point out that a maximised, empowered Combust will be doing 120 points of damage. From a second level spell. For a spellcraft DC check of not very much at all. Rant: Your GM was possibly repeatedly dropped on his head as a child*. It's probably best for all involved that you tell him to not bother running a game if he doesn't understand the rules. Seriously: I'd rather run a game myself than play under a GM who not only can't do basic maths, but also -in reference to his dismissal of Treant's guide- blithely disregards the opinion of those who do actually know better. Ultimately, I don't see this game as being very good if before it starts he dreams up dumb house-rules and tells you what the end fight is going to be! *Although I don't like psionics or ToB much either, to be frank. |
| #9phaedrusxyAug 11, 2009 8:23:00 | I don't wanna blow his game to hell and back. Why the hell not? This guy needs a Clue-bat to the face. For not gestalting, he'll give me like 3 levels. I'd rather have 3 extra levels than be gestalt. If you go with any full caster build, that's more powerful anyway. I would absolutely go with a kobold sorcerer 13* and take the ritual to boost your casting by one level. Then you'll have 7th level spells. Take Quicken and Persistent Spell, to start with. Doesn't Mage of the Arcane Order give you bonus feats? It might be worth going into that, for the extra versatility of the spellpool and the feats (although I'm not sure you'll even break even, due to it being difficult to get into as a sorcerer). Oh, and apply the templates you're getting for free onto that, instead of the lesser aasimar. Charisma 38 and 7th level spells is better than Charisma 40 and 6th level spells. *Well... not literally a single-classed sorcerer of course. But don't lose any CLs. |
