In another thread (linked below) greystar asks if a Battle Blessing [CChamp] could be used, through the spell versatility feature of a geomancer [CDiv], to cast non-paladin spells as swift actions. It appears to me that this is correct, so how do we create a build that optimizes this feature?

The thread with the original question: Here

My first guess was...
Paladin 4/ Battle Sorcerer 4/ Divine Crusader 2/ Geomancer 10
...but of course then you lose 6 sorcerer caster levels, so you can only cast 7th level spells.
Maat Mons suggests...
Divine Bard 4 / Paladin 4 / Suel Arcanamach 2 / Geomancer 2 / Sublime Chord 1 / Geomancer +7
...which is a bit more cumbersome, but seems to do a better job.

Any other ideas?

Hmmm...that's a neat idea! How about:

Battle Sorcerer 7/Pious Templar 3/Geomancer 10

--or--

Duskblade 5/Paladin of Slaughter 4/Ur-Priest 1/Geomancer 10

Only if you want to give your DM the ability to dominate your character at will =P

Race Illuminan with Improved Sigil Krau
Paladin 4/Bard 2/Geomancer 2/X 2/Sublime Chord 1/Geomancer 9/X 1

Or
Race Dragonwrought Kobold w Loredrake
Paladin 4/Sorcerer 2/Geomancer 10.

Hmm. How about Paladin 4 / Swashbuckler 1 / Ur Priest 1 / Arcanamach 2 / Ur Priest +1 / Geomancer 10 / Arcanamach +1

Then you'd get 9th level Ur-Priest spells for the most part all quickened AND thanks to the 3rd of Arcanamach, anything you cast on yourself is extended.

Bonus.

Hm.

The requirement is the ability to cast paladin spells.

NOW ...

If that means, spells specifically called out and obtained via the paladin list (Pious Templar, etc.) then there are a host of other applications. Anyone with the paladin list (and I'm ignoring prestige pally right now but we all see the potential there) ... then that means that Holy Liberators ... Pious Templars ... SILVER PYROMANCERS ... and others can benefit from this.

Wizard X / Sacred Exorcist 1 / Silver Pyromancer ... can now take Battle Blessing ...

Archivists can cast Palladin spells. :D

PS: This whole idea is broken as hell. :P

So what? It only quickens paladin spells (i.e. spells from the paladin list), not every spell you can cast. That's nice, but not OMGWTFBBQ nice. The interesting thing that greystar noticed is that the Geomancer class can make any spell into a paladin spell (sort of).

Geomancer needs 2nd level divine spells as well. Does Silver Pyromancer actually give you divine spellcasting in addition to arcane spellcasting? If so, then you're golden. :D

No one was getting the divine from 4 levels of paladin either ... (well, the loredrake and illumians were, but they suck)

How about Paladin 4 / Swashbuckler 1 / Ur Priest 1 / Arcanamach 2 / Ur Priest +1 / Geomancer 10 / Arcanamach +1

I don’t see how you get the +3 base will save for Ur Priest or the +6 base attack bonus for Suel Arcanamach.

Archivists can cast Paladin spells.

Well, Geomancer allows you to “mix or match spellcasting parameters from… classes.” In the case of Archivist, only some of the spells you can cast as an archivist would be eligible to benefit from Battle Blessing. In that case, I don’t think eligibility for Battle Blessing could qualify as a parameter of the class.

The trouble with any of these Ur-priest builds is that the Ur-priest eliminates any previous source of divine spellcasting, so no more paladin spells, so no more Battle Blessing. Dangit.

But forsaking previous divine spellcasting is a requirement of the Ur-priest class, not just a feature of its spellcasting. If you don't forsake the old, you don't even qualify for the class.

Good point; I forgot about that.

The best non-cheesy build I can think of is Bard 7/Pious Templar 3/Sublime Chord 1/Geomancer 9, I guess. You miss out on quickened 9th level spells, though.

I'm going to go in entirely the opposite direction, to achieve a similar result.

(This is the simplest build for it I could come up with)
Wizard 3/Archivist 3/Geomancer 4/Sacred Exorcist 1/Geomancer +6/Archivist +3
Casts as a level 3 Wizard, level 17 Archivist.

Other builds I arrived at on the way there:
Show
Cheesy Kobold Version:
Dragonwrought (Loredrake, Greater Draconic Rite) Kobold Sorcerer 1/Archivist 5/Geomancer 1/Archivist 3/Sacred Exorcist 1/Geomancer +9
Casts as a 4th level Sorcerer, 19th level Archivist. (There are 5 levels of archivist before Geomancer, because 6 HD are needed for the Greater Draconic Rite of Passage)

With some PRCs other than the necessary ones, and early entry:
(w/Precocious Apprentice) Wizard 1/Archivist 3/Geomancer 1/Divine Oracle 2/Geomancer +3/Sacred Exorcist 1/Contemplative 1/Geomancer +6/Sacred Exorcist +2
Casts as a level 1 Wizard (with a 2nd level spell), level 19 Archivist. Gets Spell Versatility 9 and 9th level spells at the same time. (ECL 18).

Would Prestige Paladin be to cheesy?

I don't know. Access to paladin spells for the prestige paladin is called out in the sidebar, not in the class description. Even then, it's using another class's spell list, and adding a couple extra paladin spells to it. Seems to me like it ought to satisfy Battle Blessing's requirement.

Divine Bard 4 / Wizard 3 / Geomancer 2 / Pious Templar 1 / Sublime Chord 2 / Geomancer +8

Awesome! While cumbersome with its UA-modified base class, second base class, 2 dipped prestige classes, and 1 staggered progression prestige class, it certainly gets the job done without any blatant cheese.

It occurs to me that with some blatant cheese (Precocious Apprentice early entry), one could go:
Conjurer 1/Archivist 3/Geomancer 5 and already have the spell versatility caught up to the spellcasting at 9th level. Then you can alternate archivist and geomancer levels up until 20th level.

Of course, if you're going to do this what's the benefit? Wouldn't Archivist 20 (or another PrC that doesn't lose caster levels) with Battle Blessing be better?

You need to cast 2nd level arcane spells to get into Geomancer. I may be missing something, but it would appear that an archivist only casts divine spells (including all of the paladin spells, if he has access to them on scrolls), which happily qualifies for Battle Blessing, but still requires an arcane casting source to get into Geomancer and apply Battle Blessing to anything but paladin spells.

Was Southern Magician ever Erratta'd? I know it's highly debated, or was, at one point, but it let's you turn divine spells into Arcane spells or vice versa. If you're talking 'theory' and not what an actual DM would let you get away with, Archivist with that feat and the other requirements 'technically' qualifies for geomancer on its own.

For a cheesy early entry, that's probably the best way to do it, yes. I think so far the most solid build is the Divine Bard and Sublime Chord based build.
The most likely build to be allowed by a DM is probably the Battle Sorcerer 7 into Pious Templar, although it will be fairly sub-par between levels 7 and maybe 14. That's a pretty wide dead zone to play through, and 15th level is a pretty unusually high level to start a campaign. Oh well.
