| #1riddlesApr 09, 2008 9:45:59 | it looks like my character is going to die in an epic battle against a shadow dragon. i've been warned by the DM, as i used the last charge of an item that was designed to kill said dragon (death attack. fort save dc = damage dealt on last hit). for party balance, a melee centred character would probably be best (we are a dwarf charger -me, a paladin with some BoED prc, a blaster wizard, a rogue assassin and a bard), i'm looking for a good battle cleric prestige class. i like the look of the swift wing from dragon magic (mainly due to wings. mmmm...wings), but am open to other builds... [EDIT] rubbish first post, no details. DM has informed me that the character can be as hard as i like as (should he come into play) we will need it. so: 28 point buy ECL: 11 Books: Core, PHB2, most of the complete series (including complete divine) I'm thinking of going down the persist route and just not overdoing it. human (would normally be a dwarf but i'm currently a dwarf as it is). STR 12 DEX 14 CON 14 INT 10 WIS 16 CHA 8 |

Bonus points for devoting him to an Elder Evil and getting the DM to let him enter Ordained Champion! |

If you use unearthed arcana you can also throw a prestige paladin in there. Something like cleric 6/prestige paladin 4/fist of raziel 10 if I remember correctly. |
| #4riddlesApr 09, 2008 10:04:38 | is the fist of raziel the prc that lets you add stupid amounts of damage to smiting abilities? because the current party paladin is playing something like that. many thanks for the replies btw |
| #5ppaladin123Apr 09, 2008 10:10:51 | Yup that's the one. You'd end up a better paladin than the paladin so I guess you might steal some of his thunder. Maybe something else then...worship Heironeous, and become an ordained champion (from Complete Champion). That fits the flavor (lots of war domain stuff) but I don't known how good it actually is in practice. Other people here can chime in on that. |
| #6brainpiercingApr 09, 2008 10:40:38 | If you like Dwarfes (and have acces to Races of Stone, you'll need that) and don't mind flavour: Dwarven Cleric 7, Battlesmith 1 for Wis to damage with his own Hammer, (perhaps add Deepwarden 2(edit: corrected) for Con to AC instead of Dex, arguably without max-dex from armour), Cleric or whatever rest. You'll lose a Casterlevel for Battlesmith and another possibly for deepwarden. Ordained Champion from Complete Cheese will give bonus domain (war) at 1st, and allow you to exchange the domain powers of your other domains for fighter bonus feats. Since you could take Planning Domain initially for Extend Spell and extra early DMM Persist (at three), that's already one power you don't want to give up. If you don't take planning, or have to take useless powers due to the deity, then consider exchanging them. |
| #7riddlesApr 09, 2008 10:53:28 | i do love dwarves. if i were playing a dwarf cleric, i'd take the hammer substitution level from races of stone (cleric 4 i believe) and consider battlesmith or deepwarden - battlesmith probably. great prc. but i'm already playing a dwarf, who looks like he's going to die to save a sacred home of the dwarven race. think that might make me want to play a human for a while i think. |
