Assuming I have Battle Jump (Unapproachable East 42) and Cleave, does my cleave attack deal double damage if I fall onto someone to charge them?

If I have Pounce to allow me to make a full attack on a charge, does Battle Jump's damage boost also apply to my cleave if I drop a foe on my second, third, or later attack?

If you can get that ridiculous 3.0 feat from The Setting of Zero Playtesting approved, sure, why not.

(No, I have nothing constructive to add. Forgotten Realms stuff is notorious for being crazy unbalanced.)

This question should go in the 'ask a simple question' thread. I think you ought to check 'Little Red Raiding Hood' for confirmation.

I assume Cleave would grant Battle Jump's bonus damage since Cleave states, "The extra attack is with the same weapon and at the same bonus as the attack that dropped the previous creature."

I think this reffers to de base atack bonus, no to the damage

I'd say no: the Cleave attack is not the attack you get while pseudo-charging by dropping on the foe which is the one Battle Jump refers to.

But it's not 100% clear.

you must actively Hurl yourself Down at an opponent as part of a charge..... simply falling does not trigger a Charge Condition

Actually, by RAW, Battle Jump isn't all that good. Sure, it doubles your damage an a pseudo charge (jumping or dropping onto an opponent). BUT, you have to play a Taer to get it, which means playing a terrible race (a Medium-size Giant? What were they thinking?). Battle Jump is a regional feat for the Taer "region", meaning you must be a Taer or you can't take the feat.
Just because three or four feats/spells came out as unbalanced doesn't mean all FR stuff is "notoriously unbalanced". This piece is not, for instance. Of course, in a group where the fine print is neglected in favor of flexible character development (not necessarily a bad thing, mind you), strange things can happen.

While the RAW doesn't say anything about your cleave damage on a modified charge, I'd think charging feats are in their intent directed at one target only: the target you actually charge. I'd apply this reasoning to Battle Jump as well as Leap Attack. The Momentum Swing maneuver allowed by Combat Brute, however, wouldn't have this restriction.
Sure, this is RAI, not RAW. Bash on me for daring to know the designers' intent...

I believe this is an incorrect interpratation. I think it has been firmly settled that you do not have to of the domnant race in the area to be from that area. In this case why could you not play a human barbarian from some tiny part of th Taer region, instead of your wonky medium half-giant. Someone back me up on this?

As for the feat itself I have no expierence with it so I will not speak on it.

Player's Guide to Faerun states one need not be the dominant race in a region, so a human could be from the Taer region and take the feat. Unapproachable East states one may take 2 ranks in Knowledge (local) to qualify for feats in a region.

I see, thanks for the clarification. I'd imagined the Battle Jump to be a specific technique that was limited to the Taer "region" because only Taer could perform the maneuver physically. Seems I was wrong. So Battle Jump would be a fantastic feat for chargers, right? Combine with Leap Attack and Jump skill enhancers for obscene damage... Ouch.

Battle Jump is magnificent because it can turn any sufficient Jump check into a double damage charge, and one need not charge in a straight line.

Indeed, and when combined with Sudden Leap and that stance that gives you an additional 10' to all jump checks you suddenly become able to charge as a swift action against an enemy that you're right next to by simply jumping 20' up and then hitting them. Charge with pounce and leap attack for double damage, then do it again as a swift action... yehaw!

Which is precisely the reason why this feat should probably be restricted to the rather rare Taer race... OP if you ask me.

As I've remarked elsewhere (and I wasn't even the first one to do so), if you interpret the feat that way you might as well optimize your speed and jump up and down to get X (X > 3) double-damage pouncing charges in a round.

Sure thing. And you'd get an AoO for jumping up every time, for leaving his threatened area. And the first of these AoOs might well be a grapple attempt, or a trip attack. At least that's what I'd do as a DM, to cut down on the Cheddar.

You only get an AoO once per opportunity per opponent, so you'd only get an AoO the first time he left the threatened zone... and that's if if he wasn't tumbling.

I'm not advocating this stuff - I actually read Battle Jump differently - but for people who do it's the logical extension.

Correct me if I'm wrong as I'm still new to a lot of this (and new to the forums I might add :D ) but can't you take a full attack action and then a swift action in one round?

If so, and sudden leap I assume lets you jump as a swift action then couldn't you do the following:

*assuming you are standing in front of your opponent threatening him*
Use a full attack action to use Over-powering Assault (lvl 16 fighter variant move PHBII). Then use sudden leap to jump up over him. You provoke AoO. If you are using robilar's gambit there's another attack at double damage from Over-powering Assault. If he tries to grapple, you use close-quarters fighting (assume you have it) to interrupt him doing double damage from Over-powering Assault which i'd imagine would be a nice bonus to your grapple check should he have imp. grapple/imp. grab.

Then you come down from your jump utilizing battle jump effectively turning it into a charge; thus, activating pounce allowing you a full attack with all attack at double damage from Over-powering Assault.

I mean if you are gonna read battle-jump + sudden leap as such then I would think the above would be logical.

Meh, if you build your charger correctly, the foe you fall on is dead before you Sudden Leap away from them. Dead men make no AoOs.

Think about it, even the Tarrasque only has 858 HP, a number easily doubled or trippled by an moderately optimized charger...

This debate has once more demonstrated the inherent danger of feats, abilities and spells that introduce multipliers: Add enough modifiers and multipliers, and you'll always get ridiculous numbers!
In the 3.0 to 3.5 overhaul, Rhino Hide armor has been changed in the following way: before, it doubled damage done on a charge. Now, it just adds 2d6 points of damage on a charge. This is the kind of change they should have made more often! With Errata, if necessary. Have you ever looked at the Unapproachable East errata? It's a joke, not worth the (few) bytes it's printed on. Battle Jump has just become my personal hate-feat for its pure imba!

Sudden Leap lets you make a jump as a swift action.

Battle Jump: "You can execute a charge by simply dropping from a height of at least 5 feet above your opponent."

I think I can see how some people with interpret this to mean you can make as many charges as you like in a round, simply by managing to drop on the foe from at least 5 feet up multiple times.

However, those people are either A: Stupid or B: Exploiting an incredibly loose interpretation in order to accomplish some theoretical optimization goal.

It is reasonable to assume that the vast majority of DMs aren't going to let you make multiple full round actions simply because of loose wording. The feat obviously does not intend for that to be the case, nor would any other mechanic or rule indicate that multiple charges in a round is even remotely in the scope of a feat.

As for the OP: How would you gain the movement (dropping at least 5 but no more than 30 feet onto your opponent) in order to make the cleave attack and initiate a battle jump?

or, are you asking if you can gain the effects of your battle jump on an opponent adjacent to the one you just jumped on and killed?

If the second, I would say that the two feats don't specifically interact and are therefore up to the DM to interpret. Anything else is merely speculation on our part.
