| #1phosis21Apr 14, 2008 15:00:09 | In an upcoming game of DnD (starting in early June) I'll be rolling a character. I've been fascinated by the Eldricht Theurge prc. I'd like to play a combination skill-monkey/arcanist, and the Beguiler/Warlock/E T build seemed the best way to accomplish that. My intent was to be Human or Strongheart Halfling (which is boring, but effective), I have flaws to play around with, but on a limited case by case basis. Option 1: I was going to take the lead levels in Warlock, with Able Learner as a feat (and possibly Apprentice) and then lead into Beguiler. As I understand it, Know: The Planes would still then be a class skill. Option 2: Alternativly, if the DM was feeling generous I'd start out with Beguiler with the Precocious Apprentice Feat from the DMGII, which would give me lvl 2 spells and then fill out Warlock until I had the rest of the reqs met. I've heard Precocious Apprentice ruled both ways (in regards to meeting the requirements) and havn't spoken about it with the DM, so I've no idea how he'll come down on that, but he's pretty lenient, i'd call it 50/50. I know, going into it, that mixed casting classes like this are not the end all be all of efficiency (i'd bet a boring Wizard (Conjuror) 20 ends up being better than this in a strict Char Op sense) but the idea seems like it could be a lot of fun to play with a bunch of utility and very little bookkeeping. Anyway, as usual I'm over-explaining this. What I'd like to know, is a) Is this class concept a complete waste? b) Is there a better way to do it than I'm looking at? c) What other classes might be a solid addition to this build? (1 level dips of Mindbender, and Shadow Adept both look tempting, and Shadowcraft Mage looks like all kinds of fun, but it might not fit into this build...nor do I think its optmized to make the most use of that class's abilities, still looks fun). Thats pretty much it, there's not a lot of rush on this, but better early than later. I'm open to all kinds of ideas, i'd been considering just Warlock/Rogue/Arcane Trickster, for example, so I'm not beholden to this idea, I just like it the most. Thanks! Phos |

The ET seems to be about combining EB and spells. If you can do that to maximum effect then it seems like a good combination. If it can't do that, then it seems all you have is dual progression - which at lower levels will seriously slow down your game. I.e. examine the Beguiler spell list for spells you can use ET abilities with - and look at whether those spells are any good. |
