| #1pale_enchantressFeb 14, 2009 23:51:51 | I'm playing a character that will be able to get a hold of this item fairly quickly. She is a spellcaster with a focus on leadership style abilities and mind control. For those that don't know what the belt is it's a BOVD item that that chains up to 4 people to the wearer. The wearer can cast spells without spending slots by dealing damage to those chained to her. Damage = spell level squared. She takes a significant armor check penalty (not casting failure) that is greatly reduced if the victims are willing/dominated or if they are children. The armor check penalty isn't a big deal she will most likely be using adults. I need to make them able to withstand a good amount of damage and hopefully avoid a lot of the common mook killers. I am torn between using barbarians or monks. My experiences tell me neither the DM nor the npc's will waste single target attacks on them so the monk saves plus evasion might be better then the extra hit points. I also think I am restricted to humanoids but I might be able to use a template. Regeneration seems like it would be an extremely helpful ability. |

| #3pale_enchantressFeb 15, 2009 0:42:52 | Tomb tainted soul seems like a good idea. The rengeration thing was mostly so they cant die to aoe attacks via low hit points more then the healing. Yes leaving them at home would be nice but they are actually physically chained to the belt I will be wearing by 10 foot chains. |
| #4phoenix00Feb 15, 2009 0:53:48 | Can't you just attach them via chains when you need to recover spells and store the belt back into extra dimensional space when you don't need it? |
| #5unundindurFeb 15, 2009 3:47:10 | It would be really funny with a lot of tomb tainted children chained to a necromancer, and having some other undead cohort continously spam mass inflict wounds to heal the entire bunch (inc necromancer and cohort) and damage enemies. I see big bad boss idea screaming to be used :D |
| #6thehumandynamoFeb 15, 2009 6:11:56 | Make one of them a cleric that persist mass vigor spells on them and you. |
| #7ashylFeb 15, 2009 8:54:43 | If you can stick Templates on them, there are 2 that grant them Fast Healing. Feral, from Savage Species, and Half-Troll, that I don't remember where it is. |
| #8tshernFeb 15, 2009 9:14:20 | There are a lot more templates that grant fast healing, actually. Look at Evolved undead for example. |
| #9jameswilliamogleFeb 15, 2009 11:58:15 | That's such an evil item... love it... |
| #10carnivoreFeb 15, 2009 14:33:36 | heres an idea..... try this: use Feral Warforged.... put the Chains on them... glue a Portable Hole on the inside of your Coat... put the warforged attached by the chains in the Hole... put coat on.... nobody will see anything out of the ordinary... the Warforged dont breath so can stay in the Hole indefinately(as long as you can still drain them that is;) :D |
| #11phaedrusxyFeb 15, 2009 16:50:45 | heres an idea..... try this: You could do the same thing with animated undead + some black sand in the portable hole. |
| #12awaken_D_M_golemFeb 16, 2009 18:13:56 | HOLY SNOT !! I got the BoVD the day it came out, but I discovered the CO-Board 2 years later. So, follow the bouncing ball. Heal v3.0 cures 150 hp of damage. 17*17 is bigger than 1st grade multiplication tables so I had to "google" my brain for it. (343) It barely takes 2.x rounds to Heal up the damage. Semi free 9th level spells, thank you. Lesser versions work of course. ** This reminds me of Judy Tenuta ... the comic ... Miss "He Wanted To Possess Me !!" ![]() |
| #13kosmic_latteFeb 16, 2009 18:36:29 | Just out of curiosity, why not buy 4 War Troll slaves from some Neogi? |
| #14pale_enchantressFeb 16, 2009 22:01:53 | War troll slaves would be great but As i said i think I'm restricted to humanoids though I could probably get my dm to allow templated/augmented humanoids. The portable hole idea though is wonderful not only does it provide near immunity for my victims from battle hazzards but would allow me to walk through heroic districts without too much fuss. Actually a heal spell I would almost power 2 9th level spells. It's spell level squared not caster level. 9x9= 81. |
| #15phaedrusxyFeb 17, 2009 11:14:47 | Will undead not work to power it? They're cheap, and can be healed constantly for free with Black Sand. An alternative to the portable hole is the Enveloping Pit from the MiC. It is a kobold relic, but you can use it if you're lawful evil, and it is basically a portable hole that's 50 feet deep, and costs a fraction of what the normal portable hole costs. It also specifically talks about leaving it open partially. |
| #16BloodDragonFeb 17, 2009 12:56:33 | I thought only Humaniod Creatures can be attatched to the belt. If your DM is letting you attatch Undead and Constructs to the belt I'd suggest chaining your Undead-Stitched/Construct familiar to it as well then, Improved Evasion. |
