| #1nephrilFeb 20, 2011 22:30:31 | hey guys i have a new thread it may already exist i didnt want to search through 500 posts to find it so im starting this one. heres the goal. create a character with a higher ac and better saves than all others. use whathever you want except homebrew. u can all use this race that my dm has created for us here is teh gest of the race 2 racial hit dice. no la +8 cha, +1 dex, +1 int, -4 str, -2 con +2 levels of arcane casting class +2 bab +3 stackable defelction ac. called irda and its fun. other than this use whatever you want ill be posting my solution after this. remember level 10 |
| #2nephrilFeb 20, 2011 22:35:05 | this is what i came up with after some thought. using pathfinder for base classes. monk 2/ sorc 2/ irda (race) 2/paladin 2/abjurant champion 2 u almost always end up with one 18 point stat we use it for cha here. we use 2 feats to pull this all together both out of complete adv. ascetic mage, ascetic knight. ascetic mage lets your sorc and monk levels stack for monk ac and you now use cha instead of wis for the ac bonus. ascetic knight lets your monk and pally levels stack for determining unarmed dmg and smite damage. the key points to this build is that big ass 26 cha now grants you +8 to all saves and ac. the irda also have a +3 deflection ac that stacks. with abjurant champion and access to 3rd level spells we can cast greater mage armor (spell compendium) for 6 ac and add 2 for ab champ. and we use shield spell +4 ac and 2 more for ab champ. that is bring us to an ac of 35 before figuring in dex, and your character is a naked guy enjoy. |
| #3teraskFeb 20, 2011 23:23:44 | this is what i came up with after some thought. Minor nitpick: Greater Mage Armor is a Conjuration spell and hence it is not boosted by the Abjurant Champion class feature. Alternatively, you could use Luminous Armor from the Book of Exalted Deeds which grants +5 AC. Luminous Armor is an Abjuration spell and hence you will get the +2 from Abjurant Champion. In addition, anyone making a melee attack against someone wearing Luminous Armor takes a -4 penalty to their attack roll. Nifty! Now if you were to drop a level of Monk and the Sorc levels and instead take 3 levels of Wizard, you end up with a Wizard 7 caster level and can then cast Greater Luminous Armor, which is like Luminous Armor but has a base +8 to AC. The downside being that you lose evasion, but that can be obtained from items. And of course, Wizards don't use charisma to cast spells but I don't think that was the point of this thread. |

The class gives you cha to AC when you don't use armor or a shield, +2 base ref save, +1 base attack bonus, and unarmed strike 1d6 at 1st level. In Pathfinder, undead use cha in place of con for “any special ability that relies on Constitution.” This includes the special abilities granted by deepwarden (Races of Stone) and fist of the forest (Complete Champion) that add con to AC. Pathfinder undead also use cha in place of con for HP and fort saves, so necropolitan (Libris Mortis) would be good here. Sorcerer has an alternate class feature called divine companion (Complete Champion) that lets you get a big bonus to AC and saves as a swift action by sacrificing spell slots. Sorcerer also has a spell called wings of cover (Races of the Dragon) that lets you negate an attack as an immediate action. |
| #5nephrilFeb 21, 2011 11:35:55 | the mage armor being conjuration is a constant debate on forums there is no reason for it to be. and if you read the discription of abjurant champion they mention mage armor as being one of his spells he uses. so in every game ive played weve always ruled that for this purpose mage armor can be abjuration/conjuration. its stupid that wizards took spells from so many schools and gave them to conjuration but hey we do what we can. but now that you point out luminous armor ill probably just go with that thanks for the reference. now the reason were not dropping the sorc or monk levels was so that we could take ascetic mage and add our charisma to our ac. if id be cutting back on sorc just so i can pick up a spell that grants me 3 more ac than its lesser but give up losing 8 monk ac ouch. with this build its easy to use wisdom as a dump stat leaving me open for high dex cha and con. but i LOVE the idea of using the undead from libris mortis for those cha abilities ill be looking into that. and ill look into that complete champion alternate also thanks. |

If you bother to read the errata for complete mage youll find that mage armor was removed from the description. |

| #8KatrexFeb 21, 2011 18:52:09 | Ofcourse what you need depends on campaigne but fundamanetaly Mettle evasion highsaves high touch ac This will stop the big bad spells, Orbs, save or lose, and suck or lose. along with physical damage and aoes. Main option. Racial hit die 2 sorcerer 1 monk 2 hexblade 3 abjurant champion 2 Aecetic mage. I'm going to assume 16 in charisma and dex and con and a +6 cloak of charisma =32 charisma ac 34- ac 40 with sheild. saves vs spells 23 21 25 Mettle and evasion And if that wasnt enough as you level up sorcerer start taking spells like wings of cover, heart of earth air water fire, celerity. \if you want to protect your allies, maybe take all those sheild related feats, giving allies your sheild ac, take draconic heritage so you can sheild allies in wings of cover. Take magerslayer so that pesky mages cant cast spells at your team. Yea anyway feats are up to you really. Be warry things that auto hit that allow no save. Like magic missile. Dont forget. Mettle protects you from orbs of fire. Partial save negates damage. It allows a fort save vs stun. Just incase some arcane trickster catches you flatfooted. |
| #9nephrilFeb 21, 2011 23:36:41 | Ofcourse what you need depends on campaigne but fundamanetaly my dm rolls 6 d20 and gives us stats out of that or take leet roll 4d6 drop the low 7 times then drop lowest over all. we always take his d20 rolls the guy rolls stats like this constantly 18,18,16,14,11,9 we have 30k in gear of which we cant have anything over a +2 and no individual item over 10k. i like teh hexblade but unfortunately the saves bonus from them only gives you bonuses vs spells not things like poinson. where as teh palladin save bonus at second level is a BLANKET save boost. the money bonus sucks since all +4 stat items come in at 16k BLAH. |
| #10KatrexFeb 22, 2011 3:57:43 | If you take craaft wonderous item only 8k for +4 in a stat. Also its spells you have to worry about without it youd still have saves of 12 10 14. All you need to worry about is mundain fort saves. There are lots of ways of fixing that. Anyway its only spell saves that are going to have a highenough save dc and you got that covered with hexblade. Anyway paladin doesnt give you mettle. if you're still woried you can get a ring of fortidude +5 for 12.5k, 6.25k with craft wonderous item. Or just take a feat that makes you imune to poinsen if you're really worried about that. Anyway take power attack and a two handed weapon and you're good to go really. |
| #11KruskFeb 22, 2011 12:58:35 | A Paladin into Occult Slayer isn't a bad route. Paladin 2/Rogue 4/Occult Slayer 4 is a good 10th level start. If you can take that alternative class feature for rogues ditching evasion for "Spell reflection" I would recomend it. You can pick evasion up fron a ring or loads of other classes. This build gives +9BAB, 2d6 sneak attack, loads of skills, bonuses vs traps, cha to saves, and can bounce targeted spells back at their caster. Sure most of the best best spells don't target, but a good ammout will. And your enemies won't always know that ahead of time. Also, I'd wear heavy armor and use a two handed weapon if possible. Expanding the build to 20th level I would go with... Paladin 2/Rogue 4/OC 5/ Kensai 8/Rogue 1. |
