Greetings!

One simple question... I'm playing a 6th level Moon Elf Duskblade... I'm planning on using a double weapon, so that when I get to 13th level, I can get extra attacks when full-attacking with Arcane Channeling. What's the best double weapon in the game?

Thanks!

If you take Imp Critical the Valenar Double Scimitar is quite awesome. I also prefer the Orc Double Axe, personally.

And since you are already an elf you can quaify for the Revenant Blade Prc from some Eberron book (Players Guide to Eberron), wich has a focus on the valenar double scimatar (getting 2:1 power attack ratio on both sides of the scimatar).

In what book is the valenar double scimitar? ECS or PGtE?

I don't have the books here with me... does tha double scimitar allow the use of Weapon Finesse on one or two ends? Any weapon that allows the feat on both ends?

You're a Duskblade, you can wear Mithral Heavy Armour without penalty, ergo you don't need Finesse, you need STR, especially if you follow the above advice and go for the Revenant Blade.
You might want to reconsider TWF, since the 13th lvl Channel ability only applies the spell once to each target. No 7x/round 10d6 Vampiric Touch on one target.
The only double weapon that is finessable is the quarterstaff, if you take some levels in a Dragon Magazine monk PrC. (Something with Monks and Animals.)

In terms of raw damage, the Thri-kreen gythka (XPH 14) is the most "powerful," since it does d10/d10 damage (only a 20/x2 threat range, though). The double scimitar probably has the most stuff helping it out, but it's all Eberron-specific.

Even with keen or Improved Critical the double scimitar doesn't quite edge out the gythka in terms of base damage until you have a fair bit of Str being added, and assuming you don't have any Powerful Build abilities (just wearing the Strongarm Bracers takes the gythka up to 2d8/2d8 to the double scimitar's d8/d8, contemptuously blowing it away at that point).

Plus, double glaives have that "awesomely implausible" feel to them. You can almost accept someone using a double sword by comparison. :] So that's my vote.

Similar in theory is the dwarven double spear (Races of Stone 155), which does slightly less damage (d8/d8) but can also deal piercing damage and set against charges (which can be combined with the Steadfast Boots (MIC) so you don't have to waste time readying actions). If you were a dwarf, you could use an urgrosh without needing an EWP feat (the only advantage the quarterstaff has), but you're an elf, and I don't think they have any racial double weapons....

The only double weapon that is finessable is the quarterstaff

Or the ever-useful... chain (Oriental Adventures 71, probably reprinted by now... somewhere). It does slightly less damage than its spiked cousin, but in exchange you get all the abilities it has, plus the option to use it as a double weapon (losing reach, though, when you do that).

Any Small-sized two-handed double weapon becomes finessable when you get a size increase, but that's normally a really impractical way of going about things.

If your DM is a fan of Jackie Chan movies, you might be able to get away with finessable double improvised weapons. >_> But, uh, probably not.

It basicly boils down to wether or not you go in to Revenant Blade. If you do, the Double Scimitar wins. Otherwise, the Ghytka is probably better.

Anyone know if the feycraft property from DMG2 makes double weapons finessable? I don't have the text in front of me, but I think you can wrangle the wording in your favour somehow.

The lynxpaw, from Races of the Wild, is finessable on both ends and has decent crit properties - low base damage though.

Honostly, not enough info. Whats you main stat and I'll tell you a good double weapon. Most are STR, but some are Fittnessible. So I have no Idea what advice to give really.

Well, most people said I should go for Strength, but I'm a sucker for Dexterity based characters, so...

At the moment, my ability scores are Str 10, Dex 18, Con 14, Int 16, Wis 10, Cha 8.

It's the CO board, people will tell you what's optimal. Personally, while liking it a lot, I think Finesse is WAY overrated by most people. Some people in our group think they're geniuses because they selected it...
I don't think Feycraft would make it finessable, since it states "light or one-handed" weapons, and double weapons are qualified as two-handed weapons.

I could always dump the double weapon, get me a ring of moon blade and deliver my touch spells with Arcane Channeling through, well, touch attacks...

Actualy with higher level Duskblades it's generally better to go for a reach weapon--preferably one that allows you to attack adjacent squares like the Spiked Chain or Spinning Sword(Secrets of Sarlonna?)

Full Attack Arcane Channeling can only affect each target once, but the bigger your reach, the bigger the odds of affecting more targets.

Note that while Spiked Chain is finessible, the standard option is to grab something that increases your size. An Eternal Wand of Enlarge Person is about the simplest way to accomplish this. But since these effects increase Strength but lower Dexterity, relying on Dex to hit makes this option much less attractive.

Spiked Chain opens some other possibilities as well with Improved Trip--but there is some disagreement on whether the touch attack to initiate a trip can deliver a touch spell or not.

I used to think it was awesome, but that was before I realized that it doesn't let you add your dex to damage rather than strength.

I'm partial towards Spiked Halfling Nunchucks, but that's just me.

Double Scimitar or Glaive with Haft Strike (from Dragon Compendium). Nice combo, but then again I'll stick with Boot Knives+Glaive or my Totemist Soulmelds when I do melee classes.

Now all I can see is two halflings in spiked armor tied together with about 3 feet of rope between them... and a big ogre flailing them about. (Almost as good as tying kobold sorcerers to branches to make wands)

Gnomish Hooked Hammer.

Because no one ever expects the Hooked Hammer. Ever.

More seriously, it's hard to beat the double scimitar or the dwarves' free EWP for the Urgrosh (bonus points for coolness: who uses the Urgrosh? Only people who are so badass people laugh at them when they wield their goofy-ass weapon at their own peril.)

Okay, maybe that wasn't much more serious.

Ok, then, change on the approach...

What are the best reach weapons? Either than the spiked chain, are there any more finessable? And I don't mean the whip, I hate the whip...

Other than the spiked chain, and that stupid drow knock-off of it, the kusari-gama is all I can think of that has reach and is finessable.

Does the spike chain + whirlwind + arcane channeling still hit everything within 10' of you? Whirlwind states it hits everyone in reach spike chain has that 10' reach, the biggest question to me is can you arcane channel a whirlwind attack or only "normal" full attacks?

Possibly adding in Black lore of Moil with vampiric touch could be rather nice.

The drow weapon is called a Scorpion Chain. I don't know which book it is from. The Kusari-gama is in the DMG, I think under alternate settings or something (it is an asian-styled weapon). It was also in Oriental Adventures, but worked differently mechanically in there.

There's also the spinnign sword (Eb: Secrets of Sarlona) that's a spiky whip sword thingy that's finessable.

Ogres have the best solutions to the worst problems. Can't cast spells? Find someone who can, and tie them to your weapon.

I always liked EWP: Halfling and Arcane Chanelling(Full Attack) with said halfling.
Still, A.C. is only optimal with reach, so we would tie said calfling to the end of a chain and call it good.

Would being hit by a halfling on a chain be bludgeoning damage or self-esteem damage?

Me, I'd rather use a gnome, with the nose, you could choose between Bludgeoning, Piercing (due to the nose) or said self-esteem damage...

Hey, wasn't there a double scimitar in the AEG anyway? I'm pretty sure it existed before ECS came out, iirc the sample Champion of Gwynharwyf from BOED used one.

I guess that doesn't help much, but at least the double scimitar is not an eberron-only weapon.
