| #1sir_argenonAug 17, 2008 23:47:24 | what are some of the best forms to take by a MOMF that can really hold its own in flying melee combat, besides a dragon. preferably something with a good number of attacks, and decent strength. anyone have any good suggestions? any book is allowed.. :D |
| #2reisAug 18, 2008 2:04:51 | why not dragon? i was going to say linnorm (mm2) but its dragon type |
| #3eldarielAug 18, 2008 4:48:35 | Presumably since Dragon requires MoMF 10 and not all MoMFs are level 10. |
| #4carnivoreAug 18, 2008 5:26:30 | LAMMASU Large Magical Beast Hit Dice: 7d10+21 (59 hp) Speed: 30 ft. (6 squares), fly 60 ft.(average) Armor Class: 20 (–1 size, +1 Dex, +10 natural), touch 10, flat-footed 19 Full Attack: 2 claws +12 melee (1d6+6) Space/Reach: 10 ft./5 ft. Special Attacks: Pounce, rake 1d6+3 Abilities: Str 23, Dex 12, Con 17 Pounce (Ex): If a lammasu charges a foe, it can make a full attack, including two rake attacks. Rake (Ex): Attack bonus +12 melee, damage 1d6+3. :D |
| #5eldarielAug 18, 2008 6:06:15 | Unfortunately, as a Magical Beast, it's something MoMF doesn't have access to My personal experience is that Dire Eagles, Dire Vultures and eventually Cloakers make for fine flyer forms. |
| #6carnivoreAug 18, 2008 8:27:20 | opps ...was thinking Polymorph ..... try this: Exalted Wild Shape [Exalted] (BoED p42) Wild Shape class ability Wild Shape Class lvl 8 In addition to the normal forms you can take with Wild Shape, you can also take the form of a Blink Dog, Giant Eagle, Giant Owl, Pegasus, Unicorn, or the Celestial version of an Animal that you can normally take the shape of. PEGASUS Large Magical Beast Hit Dice: 4d10+12 (34 hp) Speed: 60 ft. (12 squares), fly 120 ft. (average) Armor Class: 14 (–1 size, +2 Dex, +3 natural), touch 11, flat-footed 12 Full Attack: 2 hooves +7 melee (1d6+4) and bite +2 melee (1d3+2) Space/Reach: 10 ft./5 ft. Abilities: Str 18, Dex 15, Con 16 :D |
| #7woodenbandmanAug 18, 2008 9:45:41 | Roc? No, wait, that's gargantuan... How about... some sort of aberration... Beholder, maybe? |
| #8sir_argenonAug 18, 2008 18:09:20 | if only MOMF got magical beast.. so many nice choices but alas... no such luck. roc is fantastic, but it has too many hd.. wont be able to get it until 18th lvl.. exalted would be tough to pull off for RP reasons, and also i dont know if pending a feat for a pegasus is worth it. i was looking at the legendary eagle from mm2, its pretty good. any other nice abberrations? |
| #9surrealAug 18, 2008 22:10:27 | Check out the MoMF bible... http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=639448 The only one really of note is the Hive Mother Beholder (Lords of Madness) |
| #10opibiniaAug 19, 2008 12:47:11 | At 15 HD, shrieking terrors (MM3) synergize very well with venomfire. |
| #11dougemesAug 19, 2008 17:57:53 | what are some of the best forms to take by a MOMF that can really hold its own in flying melee combat, besides a dragon. Lords of Madness, page 108: Grell Medium Aberration: Speed: fly 30 ft. (6 squares) (perfect) Full Attack: 10 tentacles +5 melee (1d4+1 plus paralyzation) and bite +0 melee (1d6) Space/Reach: 5 ft./5 ft. (10 ft. with tentacle) Special Attacks: Constrict 1d6+1, expert grappler, improved grab, paralysis Special Qualities: Blindsight 60 ft., flight, immunity to electricity, immunity to paralyzation, sightless 10 attacks and perfect flight is pretty nice. The following are _interesting_ Phaerimm (Lost Empires of Faerun) pp 187-189 - REALLY needs errata, just go read it Dread Blossom Swarm (MM4) page 45 - plant swarm Elemental Storm (MM4) pp 48-49 - big strength Shimmerling Swarm (MM4) page 153 - fey swarm Shrieking Terror (MM4) pp154-155 - 5 attacks that have poison (can you say venomfire!) |
| #12sir_argenonAug 19, 2008 18:56:34 | awesome suggestions. the beholder and shrieking terror isnt really that good without its SU abilities. i really like the grell though. 11 attacks plus paralysis? yes please! |
| #13dougemesAug 20, 2008 10:49:44 | awesome suggestions. Here is where is get REAL ugly. Once the grell paralyzes it, you can switch to the plant swarm that does CON damage to para'd targets. :D I'm real busy today at work, but I'll try to look a couple more fun ones up for you. Doug |
| #14sir_argenonAug 21, 2008 6:17:59 | The following are _interesting_ phaerimm: ![]() ![]() completely broken.. i love it. but it cannot fly. dread blossom is fantastic also, wow, the chaos that can be created with that one! the swarms are nice too. thanks! |
| #15dougemesAug 22, 2008 12:00:18 | phaerimm: Repeat after me: text trumps table. ![]() Quoting page 188 from the book Lost Empires of Faerûn: Flight(ex): Because a phaerimm's body is naturally buoyant, it can fly at a speed of 30 feet. This buoyancy also grants the creature a permanent feather fall effect (as the spell) with personal range. So yes, it does in fact fly: as an extraordinary ability. |
| #16sir_argenonAug 22, 2008 12:57:32 | Repeat after me: text trumps table. jeez.. amazing ![]() ![]() would any dm be crazy enough to allow that monster in their game?? |
| #17dougemesAug 22, 2008 15:52:15 | jeez.. amazing Mine wasn't ![]() Of course Serpent Kingdoms also brought in the Sarukh, which enabled Pun-pun, so the faerun books are always a good bet to look for overpowered stuff ![]() You dont get a lot of feats from druid, but if you do plan on doing the melee a bunch, taking multiattack and improved natural attack (bite) might be a good idea. (if you do hydra's or the shrieking terror its phenomenal since you can bite off your own heads to go the max of 10 heads!!) |
