Hi guys,

I'm thinking of making a half-ogre character in the future that will PrC into Primeval, and I'm wondering what's the best form I can take (for those who don't have the Frostburn book, all I can say without breaking copyright laws is look for what would be the best wild shape)? I can pick one form that has no more than 8 HD, no larger than Huge, and is either a dire animal or a dinosaur. I already have a considerable amount of options through the books I do have that contain these monsters, namely MM1-3, Frostburn, and Sandstorm, but is there something really good in another book that I don't have yet?

I'm told the best whitin 8 hd would be flashraker dinosaur (MM3).

Is great for druid at least (and I can see why... Pouncing charge + free trip + free pin to the ground on anything medium or smaller + poison + rake...yummy)

take a look at the druids handbook for more on this matter

+1.Lots of natural attacks, amazing abilities, and poison to boot.

Concernign the above build, what book is Black Blood Cultist from? Consolidated Lists says it's from a book abbreviated CR, but that is not in the product key...

Hmm I can't find it anymore but I've seen a pretty cool primeval build using a dire vulture from sandstorm in the archives a while ago. It was using the vultures stench ability which is constitution based (and dire vulture already gives +14 constitution) together with some other feats to great effect.

I was thinking about using the vulture b/c fly speed and being one of the more powerful options, but I didn't think of the stench. Because my group still hates me from last time I pulled out Mr. Fleshraker I think I'll investigate that. Ability focus etc. I guess

While that one might help I was thinking more along the lines of winged warrior from RotW which gives you total concealment from everyone that is farther away then 20ft meaning that they have to get into the range of your stench to deal with you :P
Too bad I cant't find that old thread.

Dire Ape, or Dire Lion IMO..

A giant octopus is up to DM discretion..

I see mention of big con boosts and I think of a dragonborn with a breath weapon.

They do benefit from CON, so that must be careful consideration.

Lol, thanks dude.

Yeah, BBC has insane synergy with primeval. Primeval gives a huge str boost, multiple natural attacks and improved grab (in many forms). BBC allows you to deal damage with all your natural attacks on a successful grapple attack (and you get strength to damage on each one).

I picked octopus since it fit the flavor of the module I was writing (and ended up not using it, since it was too powerful. :/) but dire lion (claw/claw/bite/rake + imp grab) or whatever works pretty well too.

Wow. The Dire Vulture's Stench and huge Con make me think about the potential for abuse of Con-based abilities. Fist of the Forest would make for a nice addition, since a Primeval who lived as an animal wouldn't be a huge stretch. If you could swing Deepwarden, you could pull off Con x 2 to AC in addition to the natural attacks, stench, and any other attribute ups.

Fun idea on the dire vulture! Super gross too, for big flavor points.

I'm a fan of the dire lion, although the grey/polar bear is good as well.

I just love this PrC.

I agree. But I wish Fleshraker had more con/a higher dc >.< (at 20th I can only get it about 36) And it's a shame the dire vulture only has one bite attack and stench to screw over my allies!

I love the Rhinoceros...throw in the Rhinoceros Tribe Charge feat and you are doing double damage on a charge (which when you factor in the powerful charge ability of the Rhino is nuts )

Rhino Tribe Charge only adds 2d6 to charge damage, and then only to one attack on a charge.

The Primeval Handbook does a good job analyzing the forms and evaluating the best options.

Meh...whatever

The rhino only gets one attack....just ensure they are all charges. If you really load up on all the other charge feats you are doing crazy damage on an attack.

There are heaps...I just can't be bothered listing them.

Maybe I just have a thing for Rhinos, single attacks and MASSIVE damage on that one attack

I always thought that the Dire Eagle (RoS) was pretty darn buff. +10 Str, +8 Dex, +6 Con, on a flying form with a dandy natural attack routine.

If going for the Dire Vulture, or anything else with a low number of natural attacks, you could always dip or even enter primeval with a plurality of Warblade/Crusader levels, for sick standard action maneuvers. Performing White Raven charge strikes on the dive sounds like good times to me...since you can easily start from a good elevation above your opponent, why not take Battle Jump? (UE, realms)
