Basically the way things go is this, it's a gladitors arena, and with a few exceptions most of the other competors will throw you into thier choice arena which is a 20x20ft room with entrances that start a measly 10ft apart. (5ft step and full attack...). There are a few other arenas, and some stipulations on gear that are having me lean towards making a caster, but I have to be bale to survive the 20ft room with no precasting, Levels are gained after every win or every 5 consecutive losses. Defender picks arena (and no one likes to challenge me cause they lose.)

Characters are allowed to walk in with items in thier hands, but nothing cast or used on them before entering the arena.

So for the utility to be able to fight in some of the DM challenges that take place in other arenas, and the times that I get to pick the arena I have decided to play a Sorc. But to be able to survive the Pit I have chosen the Battle Sorc variant from UA AND the stalwalt sorc variant from complete mage (Yes I know, not all that optimal) Thus making a very ugly combination. So my primary reason for making this thread is to garner knowledge on peoples sugestions for the best Spells to take at each level.

Feats (If they matter)
1: Sudden Empower, Sudden Maximise, (An additional Two feats are possible here through flaws)

Spells (I honestly only have 1 spell, maybe two in mind at current.)
1: Power Word: Pain (This will get me through my first few levels with ease.)
2:
3: Haste? (I was thinking about maybe going into Swiftblade although with stalwalt Sorc being based off Sorc levels only it seems like a loss.)

Thanks in advance for yout thoughts.

PS. as for the extra spell slots I'm likely to use them on Spell Shield from DS Or Divine Companion if the DM allows me to have cast into it prior to entering the arena.

Ghoul Touch was a moderately popular 2nd level spell in the Core Coliseum. Invisibility is handy, too (of course).

But I would highly, highly recommend that you optimize your initiative more (e.g. Nerveskitter, Improved Initiative, etc.); having a great spell to cast doesn't matter much if you're already dead.

What sort of expendable items are available (scrolls, potions, wands, etc.)? What books are available?
