Could you recommend any spells or items to help us out?

Edit: This should be extremely helpful against assassin's and thieves alike, as the maximum range on a sneak attack/death attack is 30ft. leaving you plenty of time to stop em.
Of course if they have the Lords of Madness Feat Darkstalker the above won't help.
Touchsight is awesome, as mentioned above.
Godly spot and listen checks too.

but to boost Spot and Listen checks... there are several things:
Racial bonuses:
Dragonborn(can be acquired after play) .... give +2 Racial to Spot, listen, Search
Elf ............... same
Quick Reconoiter..... gives +2 Initiative, and allows a free Spot and Listen Check each round, the more opportunities you have to find them the better
ALERTNESS [GENERAL]
Benefit: You get a +2 bonus on all Listen checks and Spot checks.
Special: The master of a familiar gains the benefit of the Alertness feat whenever the familiar is within arm’s reach.
Items:
Eyes of the Eagle: These items are made of special crystal and fit over the eyes of the wearer. These lenses grant a +5 competence bonus on Spot checks. Wearing only one of the pair causes a character to become dizzy and, in effect, stunned for 1 round. Thereafter, the wearer can use the single lens without being stunned so long as she covers her other eye. Of course, she can remove the single lens and see normally at any time, or wear both lenses to end or avoid the dizziness.
Faint divination; CL 3rd; Craft Wondrous Item, clairaudience/clairvoyance; Price 2,500 gp.
Crystal Mask of Insightful Detection: The wearer of a crystal mask of insightful detection can make Search checks and Spot checks checks with a +9 insight bonus.
Moderate clairsentience; ML 7th; Craft Universal Item, creator must have 9 ranks in both Search and Spot; Price 20,250 gp; Weight 1/2 lb.

Linked Perception(PHB2) Druid2/Ranger1
This spell creates a 20ft emanation around you that gives all allies in the radius +2 to listen and spot for each ally within range, lasts 1 minute/level.
I've used this one to amazing effectiveness in many campaigns. Great for parties with lots of mounts, companions, familiar, cohorts, undead, etc.
Great in a wand.
Listening Lorecall(SpC) Druid2/ Ranger2
Grants a +4 insight bonus to listen and bonus based on your ranks in listen...
Blindsense to 30ft with 5 ranks, and blindsight to 15 ft with 10 ranks.
this one's personal too, but 10 minutes/level.
The psionic power Synesthete is another great low level one, granting +4 cirumstance to either Spot and Search or Listen, as well as some other cool stuff.

Technically being invisible (just in case they are doing this) gives you a +20 to hide if you are moving around. My group agreed that if you have arcane sight up, the invisibility should be negated since it is an active spell. Now, if they don't have any magic items that would pop up vs the Arcane sight, it would just be their hide vs your spot. But as I just said if they have any magic items on arcane sight would spot them automatically.
Again, i'm saying that this might not be true rules wise but it is how my group agreed on how it is done. Of course, if they are outside of your arcane sight then you are boned.

That's why all rogues should use that "Magic Aura" spell on their equipment before trying to ambush a party
