Xvart
(DR339 p64)
+2 Dex
–2 Str
–2 Con
• Small Size
• 30’ Movement
• Darkvision 60’
• +2 Racial bonus on Move Silently checks.
• Humanoid (xvart)
• Speak with Animals (rats & bats only), 1/day. Works
with the Dire version of the indicated creatures.
• Level Adjustment –2

combined with any size increasing template [my favourite being Half-Minotaur] negates the physical stats and allows a little bit of negotiation with levels...

Half Minotaur Xvart

+2 Dex
+2 Str
+2 Wis
–2 Int

• Medium Size
• 40’ Movement
• Darkvision 60’
• +2 Racial bonus on Move Silently checks.
• +2 Racial bonus on Search, Spot, & Listen checks.
Gain a 1d6 Gore attack (if Medium).
• +4 bonus on checks to escape a Maze spell & always know which
direction is North.
• Gain Feat: Track.
• Gain the Scent ability.
• Speak with Animals (rats & bats only), 1/day. Works
with the Dire version of the indicated creatures.
• Natural Armor +2
• Level Adjustment –1

not bad for a free level eh...

I have Dragon Magazine #339 open in front of me right now, and it says right here that the xvart race is LA +0. I don't know how CrystalKeep messed it up.

And the only thing with a negative LA that I know of is Incarnate Construct? It's the template from savage species, turns constructs to giants
