Apr 22, 2009 11:52:09 What is a good race/template for a Binder, i can have up to a +2 LA that is paid for. So far Ive found

Draconic Primordial Half-Giant for a +2 Con, +4 Int, +6 Cha and -2 Dex
Kersite with a +2 Con and Cha, and some other nice stuff for binders
Lesser Aasimar Saint with +2 Con, +4 Wis and +6 Cha, this one is an iffy
if my DM will let me play it, and i dint think it will survive
very long in Ravenloft, it will be an interesting play thou.

all WATC books allowed

Apr 22, 2009 12:47:27 Saint from Book of Exalted Deeds is sweet for +2 LA, and the +4 CHA and extra +2 to DC of all special abilities is great for a binder.

Apr 22, 2009 13:35:32 Half-fey with the Magic in the Blood feat is freakin awesome-sauce. JamesWilliamOgle even has a whole thread devoted to it, and he's playing a binder with that combo and talks about it in there. You get non-magical flight equal to 2x your land speed (IIRC), good stat boosts, and a bunch of great Spell-like abilities that you can use 3x per day (thanks to the feat).

Edit: I guess he was using Phrenic instead of Half-fey, but both are great. I prefer half-fey, but only slightly. I played a forest gnome cloistered cleric/shadowcraft mage with this combo briefly.

Apr 22, 2009 14:04:49 I prefer Phrenic b/c Psi-Like abilities are automatically augmented to your HD + level, and that means the abilities scale REALLY well. Add onto that abilities like Fision to get an extra Binder and nuking becomes a good option. It gets defensive, offensive, and utility powers.

Half-fey also gets really good abilities, but imo I don't think they scale quite as well as with Phrenic. The powers will be mainly offensive, too. Iresistable Dance at high level is priceless, though.

But, if form follows function, the Phrenic template is a bit harder to rationalize in a typical fantasy setting.

Apr 23, 2009 17:57:07 If you want something that goes with the Binder flavor and you don't intend to go caster/Anima Mage, Karsite is great.

Phrenic/Half-Fey + Magic in the Blood is great for power or if you want to emphasize race over class.

Don't forget Dark paired with another LA +1 (Draconic for instance) for sneaky characters.
