I was curious about using the spell Bloodwind (SC) (which allows a target to make a full attack with natural weapons as a 20ft range melee touch attack) with an animal companion, but Bloodwind requires the target to have at least 4 int.

To get around that problem I was wondering if you'd be able to give an animal companion a headband of intellect and whether that would be legal? Or if there is any way to get an animal companion with 4+ int preferably without spending a feat, though if you can through spending a feat let me know.

Feats like Exalted Companion can give you Magical Beast companions, which can have Int's higher than 2 as base.

If you play with the item slot rules from the MIC, there is nothing to prevent most animal companions from wearing a headband of intellect. Int can also be added to neck slots at base cost, which can be worn by animal companions even if you don't play with the extended item slot rules from MIC.

Well, as far as i know you can indeed put a headband or collar or whatever form of intellect boosting goodness you want on your animal companion. Being a headband or whatnot, its magical and automatically resizes to fits the wearer. Provided its not armor etc, then it shouldn't cost more to make it fit said companion.

Secondly, after looking over the spell in question, its a Cleric, sorc/wiz 1 spell only. So you'd have to be multiclassed anyways. Might as well go clerc 1 / druid X. Pick Planning and Undead as your domains to get Extend spell for free as well as Extra turning. You might as well go human as well or strongheart halfling for the extra feat at first level, thus netting DMM (persist spell) and persist spell. Wake up, strength, casts a persistant Bloodwind on your fuzzy little friend and enjoy the rest of the day's companion snacks lol.

Haha, I know the DM said to char-op a bit but I don't know if he'd allow that, still I'll have to mention it to him for amusement purposes.

Hrm, I actually like the unicorn, utility animial companion with utility ranged attacks (also keeping it out of harms way). I had a quick google but I didn't find any, do you know of other feats like that one which allows for different alignments/more animal choices?

Monstrous Animal Companion from Dragon 326 is the only other one I could find. I though there was a Vile version in BoVD when I initially posted the suggestion, but I appear to have been mistaken. As a DM, though, I wouldn't have any problem allowing an Evil (or Axiomatic or Anarchic, for that matter) version of the same feat in a game I'd allow the Exalted version in.

Well, there's the Halfling Outrider, Holy Liberator, Beastmaster(Hooray for lots of little Octopi flinging tentacle slaps around!), and probably some others. Or you can go Wiz/Druid/Geomancer/Arcane Heirophant.

Or just be an Enlightened Fist build that casts it on itself and power attacks.

It's also NOT a touch attack. Though if you can slap wraithstrike on there...
