Prerequisites: BAB 4, Craft (armorsmithing) 6 ranks, Knowledge (religion) 4 ranks, Ride 6 ranks, ability to turn or rebuke undead, ability to cast 1st-level divine spells. So, what's the best way to optimize getting into this class? You get to keep all paladin abilities and with the ride skill requirement, at least 1 level of paladin seems like it would be really helpful, especially since your skeletal steed is determined with your bone knight levels plus any levels of paladin (and, although you lose detect evil and smite evil, you get to keep the 2nd and 3rd level paladin powers). So, Paladin 3/Cleric 2/Bone Knight 10? Any particular feats/items you reccomend? Although the PrC is from Eberron, the character will be played in a Forgotten Realms campaign. |

Cloistered Cleric 2/Hexblade 1 (or any other +1 BAB/+2 Will class)/Master of Shrouds 3/Bone Knight 10/Contemplative 1/PrC 4. You may want to go with Ordained Champion 3/Master of the Shrouds +1. Don't worry about BAB since you have divine power and what not. p.s. if you're deadset on paladin, use prestige paladin. It's paladin on roids. |
| #3banaticusSep 24, 2008 3:13:40 | Cloistered Cleric has poor BAB, which slows down entry into Bone Knight and poor hp in exchange for the Knowledge domain and a selection of mostly useless spells and a couple more skills. When we're ganking cleric to have something to apply a +1 to existing divine spellcasting class from a PrC, then this is a great option, but for a melee oriented character (especially if he goes the Twice Betrayer route), this isn't such a hot idea. Master of the Shrouds is great... but the character that I plan on playing isn't exactly evil. Mindless corporeal undead -- the bodies are just laying around going to waste, that's one thing. Willfull evil undead, that might be another thing entirely. The free Extra Turning feat is useful to power divine metamagic feats, but if the character isnt summoning bunches of incorporeal undead, then I think those levels might be better spent on something else. It's cool, but I don't think it's a better choice thematically for this character. What's Ordained Champion? What are the prerequisites, what are the benefits? Are they better than the benefits that Bone Knight gives? Edit: I found this online: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/prc/20070710 -- I think Bone Knight is more fun, but the Spiritual Counter feat sounds amazing. |
| #4kurashuSep 24, 2008 7:35:38 | You could do both. Ordained Champion and Bone Knight. Also: Cleric 2 vs. Cloistered Cleric 2, you'll get the same BAB. Nothing's slowed down there. Another thing, when clerics/archivists are involved, BAB is really pointless because you get divine power. What sorts of things do you want to concentrate on? Cloistered Cleric 2/Hexblade 1/Dread Witch 4/Bone Knight 10/Ordained Champion 3 would be good for fear effects. Cleric 3/Paladin 2/Ordained Champion 10/Sanctified Mind 5 (+19 BAB) if there are undead and psionics involved. We need more information if you want a good concept. |
| #5banaticusSep 24, 2008 17:37:00 | We'll be starting at 6th level. 1 (human) -- Power Attack 1st -- Extend Spell 3rd -- Persistent Spell 6th -- Divine Metamagic (persistent) I'd really love to get Leap Attack in as well, to power attack from a jumping mount with a lance for a heaping helping of bonus damage with persistent buffs on all day. Perhaps with a, what do you call them, the things from Unearthed Arcana that gimp you but that let you take another feat -- I'll have to ask the DM of this campaign about that. I want Extra Turning as well. :p Any suggestions regarding feats? Any good spell suggestions? Magic items? |
