| #1BloodDragonJul 21, 2008 9:54:52 | Long time no see OP boards… Wondering if I can partake in the communal knowledge once again. Without getting into the full story of why and how. I am about to play an Anima Mage who will be replacing my current character in an ongoing Greyhawk-ish Campaign. We are starting at level 10 so I was thinking the standard: Wizard 2 / Binder 1 / Anima Mage 7. Using Precocious Apprentice as early entry. 1 - Precocious Apprentice, Metamagic feat? 3 - Improved Binding 6 - Ignore Special Requirement 9 – Metamagic feat? Now here is the catch: My character is not going to be able to choose his starting items in fact he won’t start with any gold at all, he doesn’t even get to start with a Spellbook! It’s not all bad however the party treasure actually has a Vestige Phylactery, Implement of Binding, and a Veil of allure (thanks to a previous Binder, from another player). In addition I have been given the option to take the Spell Mastery and Uncanny Forethought(EoE) feats at the cost of flaws. Since I am starting without a spell book I will be taking this offer. So my questions are this: Which metamagic feats are best for my character? I really wanted to do Extend Spell/Persist spell cheese but given my situation I think Quicken/Empower (or Twin) would be a better options. Also I’m a little lost on what spells I should start with (through Spell Mastery) assuming my Int will start at 20, what should I be picking up right now? And what should I be aim for first? This character is going to focus more on the spell casting side… and finding a Spellbook ASAP for the future. Books books... No Eberron or FR, that's it. Any advice is appreciated please and thank you. P.S. Bloodline cheese is sadly not allowed :D, and I'm working on swinging an Arcane Apostle of the Green Lady but I'll have to see how that plays out. |

SPell Mastery alone won't cut it, and you can only use UF a number of times per day equal to your Int modifier. Your DM is gimping you considerably. No WBL is also a problem. You may as well use Sorcerer for Anima Mage, as you will need it just to be playable. |

It's the "whole deal" with SM or nothing, and It's not like I'll be without a spell book forever. Two/Three game sessions and we'll more then likely get back to town if I don't find one sooner. Can't be thinking of the short term all the time. But your right. I'll be rather useless off the get go. I wanted to avoid the Sorcerer class but mabye I should give it a second thought. Thanks for the (really) fast reply. Suggestions for a Metamagic Sorcerer then? Edit: Oh yeah... We already have a Sorcerer (Blaster) that's why I wasn't picking Sorcerer. Hmn. |

Grab Repeat if you get Twin spell. Note that you can choose different targets for Twin spell. If you are going for a buffer character, then I'd actually say Reach spell is better for you. If not, then Twin. |

I suggest you pick a few good spells to start off with, and have them tattooed on yourself, then later find a spellbook, then transfer them over. |

Any good suggestions since I'm limited on spells? I was planning on Battlefield control more then blasting/buffing. |
