Bugging out Master Transmogrifist.

I'm currently DMnig a campaign and I am in need of finishing touches on this Semi-BEG and his minions. Most of them are using the Master Transmogrifst PrC to use creature mixing mayhem but I'm looking for a specific type of form to use and would prefer it to be a serious challenge to my PCs.

I've read through the Master Transmogrifist thread from the Surreal dex and Google-Fu'ed up the one semi-handbook which isn't linked, and although a Phase spider (which is mention in the surreal dex) does fit nicely as a fall back I'm looking for something else...

I’m looking for two kinds of insects or "insect-like" forms, hopefully ones that fly.
One obtainable through Polymorph. Caster level 18, so HD 15.
And one through Shapechage.

Cheese is acceptable as my players are the ones that will have to deal with it.

My current list of creatures that I'm not all to happy about are:
Kythons (From BoVD)
Phase Spider
Remorhaz

... there just aren't alot of bug monsters which jump out and scream "Challenging."

Anyway I would like to know what my best options are- please and thank you in advance.

P.S. Not to pleased with the new board structure... or what seems to have befallen our beloved Admin, but that is for another thread. Been gone too long.

May 30, 2008 13:48:59 My favorite Master Trans have always used a houserule. Psionics have their own version of Master Tran. Then using an Ardent with custom mantles (as the Mind's Eye articles), and practiced manifester. That way you don't fall behind in power levels, yet at the same time are kinda limited (only knowing 17 powers or so at level 20 suck, only knowing 11 at level 12 is much worse than a sorcerer in spells known.)

Also can easily gain the SU feat for 3/times a day goodness.

Also ardents can learn a psionic version of alter self.

And they do come with the fly spell at will, ah leave it to devils and demons to fill every niche. I assume you mean to take the outworldly feat so I can actaully change into an outsider. Thanks for the input :D

Doesn't Shapechange allow anything, anway? And unfortunately NO variant of Polymorph except the -form spells will allow you to use the Spell-likes. Only Su and Ex, so you're better of with a base-creature with wings or Su/ex flight.

As such, Ice devils are a a bit disappointing.

Of course, I can't but recommend the Shapechange threads from the Handy Links thread.

Also, if the base form, or even the combination form doesn't seem challenging, just slap on a few more items. Shapechange isn't nearly as strong without items.

Hmn... Took a look but as mentioned before Vermin are usually not considered "Optimal" so not many are listed... Any suggestions off the top of your head?
I did glance a few nasty tricks I didn't know about out of the Shape Change thread, thanks for the suggestion.:evillaugh

Outsiders and Dragons is where it's at. Unfortunately Vermin usually just can't compete:
They are mostly universally Int -. That means NO feats, NO SLAs, mostly no Su's either. Some Ex's, but not much. Basically your average Vermin is hunk of natural armour and hitpoints.
