| #2SenevriDec 20, 2008 7:55:56 | Well, you'll be eating lots of no-levels, so you might want to consider an accelerated entry. In fact, could you play a Necropolitan Wizard/ instead? ...Frankly, there's absolutely nothing good about PM. You want the flavor, be a dread necromancer instead. (weaker than wizard, though) |
| #3phoenix00Dec 20, 2008 9:21:39 | At level 20 with Early Entry a true necromancer starts to shine, 9th level spells in wizard or cleric and 8th level spells in the other. ---- This may be more what you are looking for though. the Holy Potency feat as one of its abilities allows you to do a rebuke, the next turn a negative energy spell that does damage will have your cha modifier added to the save dc. Pick a class with cha spellcasting and that is 2 cha to the save dc Well the Cloistered Cleric 1/Sorcerer 6/Incantatrix 10/X 3 Snowcasting+Rapid Metamagic+Flash Frost Spell+Lord of the Uttercold+Eschew Materials makes all your spells do negative energy damage. Thus Holy Potency works on all spells. Throw in Dragonblood Subtype and Draconic Aura Cold as well as the two cold focus feats and you are talking 10+6+Spell Level+Cha+Cha |

I am not really sure what you mean by "lots of no-levels". The pale master only loses one caster level, and that is at first level. After that, I gain several other cool powers (animate dead for free, lots of cool and nasty touch powers, undead armor affinity and an undead cohort) for no additional cost. The problem about the Dread Necro, is that 1. I have already played one several times, 2. I like Int better than Cha, and 3. The wizard's spell list is FAR better than the DN's. |
| #5jaronkDec 20, 2008 13:44:15 | Guys, he's saying Pale Master, not True Necromancer. Anyway, the UA Varient Necromancer gets improved undead, which is nice. The rest of the varients for Necromancers in UA aren't that good though. Corpse Crafter always amuses me. Necropolitan is good for style, and then you can spell stitch yourself with Animate Dread Warrior. JaronK |
| #6SenevriDec 20, 2008 19:00:10 | I am not really sure what you mean by "lots of no-levels". The pale master only loses one caster level, and that is at first level. Ah. I must have been thinking 3.0 After that, I gain several other cool powers (animate dead for free, lots of cool and nasty touch powers, undead armor affinity and an undead cohort) for no additional cost. Rethinking... Well, you'll want Undead Leadership, of course. http://www.wizards.com/dnd/article.asp?x=dnd/dx20021031x Planar wiz 10 could add an alignment descriptor to spells, and then you could pick spell focus (evil) (or chaos, for PCMage ;)) for a bit extra save DC. Earth Spell + Heighten works here, too. Hm. |
| #7stackingzerglingsDec 21, 2008 21:28:48 | After thinking about it for a while, a character based around Enervation might be a lot more effective than any other kind of necromancer. I was thinking about how awsome TWINED MAXIMIZED EMPOWERED Enervate could be (12 negetive levels WITH NO SAVE!). Any advice on how to further optimize this? BTW, what book is incantrix in? |
| #8ChristopherGrovesDec 21, 2008 21:40:46 | Enervate is a VERY popular spell to metamagic the heck out of ... typically w/ some Incantrix. I'll google and see if I can find you some builds from the forums here ... |
| #9SenevriDec 22, 2008 4:29:29 | It's a ray. Split Ray. |
| #10phaedrusxyDec 22, 2008 11:49:52 | Incantatrix is from Player's Guide to Faerun. It is basically a metamagic specialist. |
| #11stackingzerglingsDec 22, 2008 20:12:13 | Hmmm... Looks like I will have to get that book .Any more ways to deal out as many negetive levels as fast as possible? |
| #12kedcolemanDec 23, 2008 11:51:00 | There are a couple more effective and ridiculous ways of producing higher amounts of level loss per round ;) Unfortunately I know the game you're after and I have every intention of using those methods within. I'll fill you in later. |
| #13phaedrusxyDec 23, 2008 11:53:47 | Hmmm... Looks like I will have to get that book Be a Soul Eater/Warshaper. |
| #14stackingzerglingsDec 24, 2008 11:18:20 | There are a couple more effective and ridiculous ways of producing higher amounts of level loss per round ;) Unfortunately I know the game you're after and I have every intention of using those methods within. I'll fill you in later. If you are attempting to join the same game I am, then it looks like I will have to 'take care of you' :D . Seriously though, I don't see your application on the game thread. Anyways, I would prefer not to play as a soul eater so I can retain caster levels. I do want to maximize negetive level drain, but preferably without lossing many caster levels. |
