| #1soreidoOct 17, 2009 10:27:48 | Hey guys, sorry for my first post to be kind of a request, but I'm having a very hard time deciding on what I want to play as a character.
My ranger just bit the bucket, and my character's personal belief's negate any chance of ressurection (believes it's unnatural).
I was a sniping Ranger, Elven double bow, Manyshot/Rapidshot (We're using pathfinder classes and feats, or 3.5, player choice), all that jazz.
Right now, the party consists of
5 Wizard/4 Cleric going into mystic theurge (fluff reasons to go 5/5 instead of 3/3) 2 Monk/3 Cleric/2 Fighter/2 Apostle of Peace, mostly focuses on healing and diplomacy 3 Fighter/6 Duskblade was given Combust as a 2nd level spell choice, so basically leap attack/power attack with combust/shocking grasp coming into play will be a 9 sorcerer who has mostly enchantment spells
I'm at a loss of what to build.
I like Gishes, but I never can seem to get a group that goes long enough to let me play one
I like buffing as well, and I wouldn't be 100% adverse to doing basically nothing but buff and a few attacks here or there
That being said, I've never played a bard, and never done a gish that wasn't a Wizard/Fighter/Eldritch Knight (we were doing srd only at the time)
what do you guys suggest that would be fun both gameplay and RP wise?
I have two character types that I threw together, but I'm unsure about either
1st is a bard 9, who would go into bard 10/seeker of the song 2/bard 8 (pathfinder), optimized to use dragonfire inspiration and wades in with a longsword. He's set up to only spring attack and uses slippers of battledancing, which obviously he can't get at 9 due to the often used no more than 1/2 character wealth at creation rule.
2nd is a Dragonfire Adept. This one flies around with the wings invocation, strafe breathing (eventually), with a dragon cohort.
I'm somewhat liking both, but I don't really consider a bard using song to be a gish.
I've also never done a battle cleric.
Monk has interested me, but I'm also not so sure about that.
Any suggestions? Perhaps suggested path or feats? I enjoy roleplaying and can pick up how to act in accordance to how the character is built, since I can't start at level 1 I have a bit of leeway on character building. |

| #3gorfnad_the_shiznitOct 17, 2009 19:01:56 | Bard and Gish...two builds come to my mind for that
Elf Bard 7/ Eldritch Knight 1/ Arcane Archer 2/ Sublime Chord 2/ Abjurant Champion 5/ Eldritch Knight 3 9th level spells, 17 BAB, Imbue Arrow tastyness, requires Elf and either the Militia or Otherworldly feat at first level since Eldritch Knight requires proficiency with all simple and martial weapons. Feats: 1. Otherworldly or Militia, 3. Point Blank Shot, 6. Precise Shot, 8. (EK) Weapon Focus: Longbow, 9. Versatile Spellcaster, 12. Combat Casting, 15. Rapid Shot, 18. Improved Precise Shot
Human Bard 6/ Crusader or Warblade 2/ Jade Phoenix Mage 2/ Sublime Chord 2/ Jade Phoenix Mage 8 9th level spells, 17 BAB, decent amount of manuevers, mixes very well with Dragonfire Inspiration. Feats: 1. Dragontouched, Dragonfire Inspiration, 3. Weapon Finesse, 6. Song of the Heart, 9. Song of the White Raven, 12. Snowflake Wardance, 15. White Raven Defence 18. Clarion Commander |
| #4phaedrusxyOct 17, 2009 21:23:24 | Bard 4/Fighter 1/Spellsword 5/Sublime Chord 2/Sacred Exorcist 8
BAB +16, 9th level spells, Turn Undead (can fuel Divine Metamagic with the right feats), cast in armor, Channel Spells. |

Interesting ideas, from everyone, I'm liking the Tome of battle build, never have done it, but I have the book (go figure) |
| #6felgorothOct 18, 2009 16:28:50 | I know you're thinking a Bard or Gish build but, doesn't your party need someone to disarm traps and such? Or are you good on that? |
| #7soreidoOct 18, 2009 19:47:10 | Our DM is fairly new and has, from 3rd to 9th level, had us on nothing but overland combat and 1 fight indoors. So far, no dungeons (I don't expect him to, though we ARE going to some white dragon caves around 12th or so).
I had a rogue/wizard/daggerspell earlier, but I wasn't liking how he was playing, and the fact that I killed some soldiers in town in a panic made that character dead around level 5.
He was more of a cut-throat than a rogue since he didn't have trapsense or trapfinding.
I'm still looking for suggestions, we play on Tuesday, so by tuesday night I need to have my character ready.
I was looking a bit at the Revenant Blade from Eberron, and I'm somewhat liking it. Is this a fairly powerful PrC? |

It is if you're a frenzied berzerker.

| #9deoxhydroxinateOct 18, 2009 21:13:46 | Revenant Blade is amazing if you're able to top it with Frenzied Berserker. Something like Fighter 2/ Ranger 2 / Barbarian 1 / Revenant Blade 5 / Frenzied Berserker 10 is one disgusting charger. |
| #10soreidoOct 19, 2009 1:48:46 | Not sure if I can actually use Tome of Battle
Any other ideas guys?
any particularly interesting gish builds? Possibly builds that are unorthodox? |
| #11deoxhydroxinateOct 19, 2009 11:56:06 | The build I had posted doesn't use any Tome of Battle; it's all PHB, Complete Warrior and Player's Guide to Eberron. Granted some of the feats and variants used are all over the place (again, none of which are in ToB).
If you're looking for a gish type build, I'd think of some sort of arcane archer type as was previously mentioned, assuming you're ruling out Divine Metamagic. |
