Can't decide on what to go for

I'm joining a party of 5, a sorceress, devoted spirit, barbarian, swashbuckler and a ranger. So in essence, they already have thair arcane, divine, tank, strategic fighter, and archer all intact. This leaves me with the issue of what type of character I'm going to be playing. The DM is new, but he's been at D&D for a few years now. Starting level is 7, 9500 gold, stats are to be rolled but it looks like they'll be quite generous (5d6, take the top 3, +1 for advancing past lvl 4). So far the only ideas I've come up with are either a crusader/tripper, or a swordsage/dervish, but I was thinking of maybe going for master of nine, that power thrower class from ToB, or maybe something else if anyone has a suggestion (usually ToB is banned in the games I play because they all think I abuse it, same with dervishes)

I'm planning on making a somewhat linear character (probably 2 classes at most, 'maybe' 3 but I'm not one for exp penalties) and going with a core character race. Something to not confuse him so much. He's already made an entire armada of his own monsters so we won't know their weaknesses (unless we take knowledge ranks). Like how everyone knows what a vampire is weak to, so why take ranks? "lucky guess that a wooden stake would do it"

Anyways, I'm not sure what the party needs. Pretty much nothing, so it lets all of our imaginations fly

First of all I would check if the sorcerer is just doing blasting or has good battlefield control spells. If he's not doing the BC, be a wizard and do that.

If the Favored Soul is not dishing out enough healing or cleric buffs, be a cleric and fill that gap.

It doesn't sound like you have anyone with the trapfinding ability, so a rogue1/wizard4/unseenseer2 or humanparagon3/wizard2/unseenseer2 might work. Or take either of those and replace wizard with sorcerer or beguiler if you prefer.

A group that big might find a dedicated counterspeller useful to shut down the enemies mojo, so you might want to play an optimized counterspeller.

On the same note, bards scale nicely with group size, so you could do some inspire courage optimization.

If you really want to get into ToB, a Ruby Knight Vindicator is excellent. Or on the arcane side of things, a Jade Phoenix Mage gish would work.

Finally, for their power and versatility, a druid is (as always) a great choice.

very true, a bard crossed my mind, but the last bard I played was 4 levels below the rest of the party, and yet it appears that all minotaurs, constructs (yes, constructs) and other big baddies in a otherwise 14th lvl party, decided that they "really" didn't like his singing voice.

Presently I haven't had a chance to check out the party, the DM asked me to have my character ready for the first time I get there, and I'm not even 100% who I'm going to be playing with. It seems as though you're highly suggesting staying away from physical characters, which I understand, but am saddened by (Bloodstorm Blade is the class that I was looking forward to, probably going for something like Smrtgmp's "Goat-Ball MVP" which is based on ranged sundering and tripping multiple enemies). Not to mention a pure counterspeller sounds a little boorish

Maybe a Jade Pheonix Mage gish would work though, or I'll resort back to me bards

How about both?
Previous build of mine on thread Tome of Battle Build Compendium II

While thinking on my previous post and with a little inspiration from the Song of Death: Bardic Badass thread, I have revised my previous build.

"Disco Inferno" Human CG - Take 2
1. Bard - Dragon Touched, Dragonfire Inspiration, Dragon Heritage (Battle Dragon), Able Learner, 2x Flaws
2. Bard
3. Bard - Song of the Heart
4. Bard
5. Bard
6. Bard - Words of Creation
7. Crusader
8. Crusader
9. Jade Phoenix Mage - Song of the White Raven
10. Jade Phoenix Mage
11. Sublime Chord
12. Sublime Chord - Snowflake Wardance
13. Jade Phoenix Mage
14. Jade Phoenix Mage
15. Jade Phoenix Mage - Melodic Spellcasting
16. Jade Phoenix Mage
17. Jade Phoenix Mage
18. Jade Phoenix Mage - Versatile Spellcaster or Lingering Song
19. Jade Phoenix Mage
20. Jade Phoenix Mage

BAB 17, Saves 12/8/11, 9th level Arcane Spells CL 16, Initiator Level 16
Items of Note: Harmonizing Echo Blade (MIC), Vest of Legends (DMGII), Badge of Valor (MIC), and a Masterwork Mandolin.
Spells of Note: Inspirational Boost and Creaking Cacophony (both SC).
Unless my math is off (which it may be) at level 20 your party is dealing an additional 18d6 sonic damage on each attack from Dragonfire Inspiration + feats + items + spells.
Then of course you add in all of the JPM goodies...

Here is a crazy suggestion, but try a Marshal. With a good sized party your Auras have a big impact on the game. With the right Race and the Draconic Aura trick you fill the Party Buffer/Face/Meatshield role, you can even throw in some Debuff/Battlefield Control options into the build.

Instead of marshal, I have always found that Dragon Shamans are simply awesome as the 5th wheel. Be a human and take one level, then go into crusader if you like ToB.

I'm biased though, I love it when someone plays a dragon shaman.

The fun thing about Marshals is with the right feats and Race they can do almost everything a Dragon Shaman can do. Using the Draconic Aura x2 feat and Double Draconic Aura a marshal can have 4 Auras Active at once 1 minor, 1 major, and 2 Draconic (Vigor and any other).

Archivist couldn't hurt. Or a druid.

If you like being a total oddball, Factotum fills the bill on alot of levels.

I remember reading a bit about a truenamer class somewhere, looked interesting, but I didn't have enough time to go through all of his stats/abilities/spells. Would that be a decent idea? or are they more 3-4 part people

You can't pick up Vigor with the feat. You must select from the list presented in Dragon Magic.

Actually you can pick up vigor with the Draconic Aura feat read the practical marshal 20 thread for the full rules. Summarized the feat says you can pick any Draconic aura and then refers you to pg 86 of dragon magic for info on draconic auras. On pg 86 it states several times that the Auras in phb2 are Draconic auras. Lastly the feat never restriction you to the auras on pg 86 unlike every other similar ability in Dragon Magic.

Ugh, no. This is just selective reading, nevermind that it's actually been clarified by custserv at one point that you must select from the list on p.87. Bah I'm tired of debating this one; if your DM lets you get away with it, fine.

A Factotum would be pretty awesome, right there. A Spellwarp Sniper would be even better.
