So, I seem to be in need for a new character for my epic lvl campaign, and being a huge fan of the show (Dr.Who) i thought how much fun it would be to make him as my character.
the current parameters are just that he cant be evil (but the Dr would not be anyways) as far as i am aware all official books are allowed, and some third party ones not sure what though, if they end up being used i will run it by my DM to see if that works out. He is a 28th lvl character so there is tons of room to play around with.
I dont have any real thoughts as for the direction of the character, I was kinda expecting him to be a slightly arrogant know it all skill monkey ish person. But I am sure that it is possible to do much better.

thanks for the help

How does your GM feel about magic V. physics going before his circuit court? Because I can give you a tardis, sonic screwdriver and all?

I belive that things should be more magic orientated, than physics. Specifically he said that quantum mechanics is out, so no "its bigger on the inside" as for the sonic screwdriver that i know is in, as long as you can justify whatever you are doing in magic.

I would see Dr. Who as some sort of mix of Factotum, Exemplar, and Chameleon. Skills everywhere and can basically fake and bluff his way into making people believe he can do anything. Factotum 19/ Chameleon 9 could work to an extent.

chameleon ten! go go go!
Factotum 18 is my sweet spot.

I'm not suggesting using real physics.

Add the Leadership feat to be followed inexplicably by young pretty women.

You could do larger on the inside then the outside as is canocally done in Doctor Who by means of the door into/out of the Tardis joining the physical shell of the tardis, and a demiplane. Given that the Tardis is 'alive' you could awaken its genius locii and then cast fly on the thing. Flying police box with a neat defence mechanism.

Psychic Paper is fairly easy to do with illusions, and the sonic screwdriver, in all honesty, could just be a custom designed rod of wonders.

Time Travel would require custom work, especially since quantum physics is out. I suppose you could use uh... time stop and amulet of second chances- stop time, step back a round, stop time, step back a ground. You can be sipping tea or doing whathaveyou as your aperture point to the rest of realiy travels through time. Give your demiplane the timeless trait too.

But that's just backwards, and in a single place, and you'd just be reversing your own personal timeline, which is a big no no in DrWho.

To actually travel in time would need a lot of work.

thanks, since this is the doctor and all i was thinking that i should try and get Int as high as possible, and if Factotum is going to be in this mix i would think that would be a great idea. Cause common this guy speaks 5 billion languages that has got to be a crazy int score.
As for time travel I did not expect it to work not within the limits of D&D so that was not my main priority, building the doctor and the TARDIS were what i was thinking were important

Edit-checked with my DM he said that it might be legit to stat out time lord as a race, thoughts on what he should be like? Keeping him balanced is going to be hard... anyways going to work on that ur thought would be great.

Yes, stat time lord out as a race. Make sure they have the Ex: Plot Armor ability normally found on good aligned drow, though!

I think Dr. Who is a pretty cool guy. eh kills aleins and doesn't afraid of anything.

His name is The Doctor, not Doctor Who. Get it right, people!

All DnD characters have plot armor.
It's called "Hit Points".

Time lords would need some kind of contingent reincarnation ability.

Halfling style luck would also be appropriate

Int bonus as well.

I think that the Doctor's main characteristic is his knowledge abilities.

Anyway, having that in mind, I'd say he's either a Wizard or an Archivist. Posibly the second.

He would have a Mordenkainen's Magnificent Mansion or something (Perhaps a Rope Trick spell affected by spell Thematics) resembling a telephone box..

Invest lots of skill ranks in Knowledge skills - definately The Planes, Religion, Arcana, and whatever you find fitting.

For PRC's, I'd consider a few levels of Loremaster, and perhaps Fatespinner, to give a little bit of his time-affecting abilities.

I'll add any additional ideas I have ^^

Oh man, Archivist is a really tempting possibility if you'd like to pursue the Darker Side Of Doctor Who.

Or, my current fav. class, Factotum!

I love throwing Factotum at builds and watching them explode.

Treantmonk has a very good point.

Off the top of my head, Jade Phoenix Mage gets this at capstone,
but I think it's also available as a...
Oh! Oh!

Erudite, with spell to power! Viewing Timelines, sometimes telepathy, venusian Kung Fu?

psionic(contingent revivify).

Personally if you dm allows it I'd go Artificer with some Factotum levels just for the mass skills. That'd cover your gadgets and do everythingness which to me seems more like the Doc. Casters are fine but part of the appeal of The Doctor to me was that he himself wasn't that strong, he just was very clever, had a wide set of skills, and occasionally rigged together something fancy. Also, if your dm allows epic destinies for sure take Eternal Hero found here http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/drfe/20080428. Though maybe tweak it down a bit depending on how hardcore accurate you want it to be. Hell I don't know what your starting gold is but if its enough just buy a bunch of magic items to dissect into your craft reserve and build your own TARDIS.

I'm actually extremely sold on the mechanics of the JPM for Dr. Who.

It's a solid choice for sure but it doesn't seem as true to the story as Eternal Hero would be. That might be a personal bias though on my part.

Edit: That and if he went Elan w/ Eternal Hero he'd never die since after a point the only way to die with Eternal Hero is old age and Elans never die of age :D

Even at lvl 21 we're talking a mostly immortal (barring imprisonment type effects) character who can take monstrous feats via Aberration race and would look something like Artificer 20(Might need adjusting dont have my books on me), Factotum 1(For all skills as class skills). And on top of that we might even have epic gold levels so whatever we dont need we spend on cost effective magic items for adding to our craft reserve. That right there is some damn fine potential.

Just as a side thought since I saw this mentioned earlier but the Doctor doesn't actually know every single language he speaks, the TARDIS translates them for him and his companions via telepathy. If you can't get a TARDIS an item with Comprehend Languages (For Listening and Reading), and Tongues (For responding) would replicate this.

I think we need to take this to the point where he can tow the earth around if he has to :D

Not a problem in the slightest.

The only worry will be not cracking the earth as we tow it, and if we use the singularity drive, that's a non issue. We can just line up an alcubierre bubble around it and toss it away to the destination at light speed. Seriously, easy. The issue is that once you have a functioning singularity drive, you're almost unkillable.

I think that solves most of it then. Unless we want to find a way to turn the TARDIS into a paradox generator as well, or has that been accomplished?

Paradoxes are really hard to create in DnD.... I've been talking to TG about it pretty extensively. Get back to you on that one, I suppose.

tanks for the help guys let me tell u what i have got.

My DM being the wonderful person that he is let me create time lord as a race with the LA of +3, so naturally i have his ability to regenerate as a SU ability, two hearts, the ability to see how time functions and see the future ( 2 some extent) and a nice bonus to INT.

The character ended up with a total int score of 51(+21) the classes are factotum 20, swashbuckler 3 monk 1 and exemplar . I am fairly content with this build, naturally the Doctor cant travel w/o his companion so what do people think about the Rose/Martha/Donna side of things if this is the build?

As for the TARDIS, I still dont have it built help here would be appreciate. Few things to note, there is no planar travel in my world as it is being blocked by a set of major artifacts which we have to turn off, he has allowed me to have a box linked to its own demiplane, what abuse do u think that i can get off of this? And how do u think I should go about statting the Box itself?

All of his companions would be commoners or maybe rogues. I never really saw them as doing a whole lot combat wise aside from being an extra pair of eyes >.> If you go by their end games Rose would be a deity, Martha would be... well Martha I guess, and Donna would be a genius.

And K-9 is an awakened dog with the effigy template, with levels as a ray-casting sorcerer and a bunch of divination spells.
