No one know what the other players are playing and we get rewarded for off kilter characters.  Most books are available. Must be an evil character.

Here's the basic info for the new game:

-Start at level 4: expect advancement to be fast, it will be a relatively short campaign
-Stats will be done via point buy with 20 points to start.  Each player will get 1-10 bonus points to spend depending on how crappy their character build is. For example, an orc barbarian would get 1 while a goblin barbarian would get 7.
-Characters start with 8,000gp to buy items.  Expect the game to be below standard d&d wealth levels
-Every character is a member of the carnival.  Part of developing your character is determining how he contributes to the carnival.  Remember that this is a world with magic, which has a big effect on what people find shocking.  The bearded woman actually changes back and forth between being a woman and a man, and instead of a lion tamer there will be an antlion tamer.
Every character can have a bonus skill which will automatically stay at max ranks that relates to his role in the carnival.
-The carnival is an evil organization.  They'll be traversing the land sowing evil in an as yet undetermined fashion.  As the few non-slave members of the carnival that are capable of doing things like walking around in a town talking to/beating up people, the party represents the organization's arm.  Typical jobs consist of anything from going into town putting up flyers and drawing attention for the carnival, to beating the snot out of some local lord that suggested you couldn't perform on his land.

Ideas for characters? Interesting races? weapon choices? PrC?

And thus, once again, the lack of organization of past threads frustrates me. But, that is the point of a community.

1. Off-kilter is ambiguous in DND.
2. re: evil: More like "gets to be evil".
3. re: point-buy points clemency: ... Circumvent the whole possibility of failure with "save" game mechanics/tricks. community.wizards.com/forumhandler?t=737... Astral Projection, Magic Jar, etc.
4. re: wealth: how's the economy? Would your DM allow you to gold-farm? What's the point of carnival tricks if you can't make some dough? Just a thing about your affiliation?
5. re: carnival contribution: This is a bit of a tangent, but what if you just TPK the troupe? I mean, you're evil, but I don't know if that's what your DM means to encourage. If they don't, they better analyze their principles. Damn alignments...
In an atavism to point 1, what if you don't contribute?
6. re: sowing evil: the optimization of the sowing of evil blows the bars off the portcullis. As you can see, Diplomancy is just one example of the absolute destruction of coherency in a DND society. When being a pied piper really pays.
7. re: talking to/beating up people: Intimidation; Fear-optimization.
8. re: advertisement: now that's an obscure thing I'd love to see optimized. It reminds me of fortress-building.
