| #1selaphielMar 23, 2008 21:03:38 | Is there any way to cast a 5th level spell at a level lower then 9th? im wondering because a prestige i want at a lower level requires the casting of telekinesis and 8 ranks of concentration (level 5). I wanna have telekinesis at 5th so i can prestige at 6th. for all you naysayers of this prestige, did anyone think of the spell shrink item? why not shrink 15 great swords and put them in a container, then throw it (or telekinesis, why not?) it near an enemy, then make them grow to full size, then it will go a little something like this: "My those are some large swords surrounding me. Hmmmm? they are all pointing at me... o ****..." |
| #2KruskMar 23, 2008 21:45:48 | what prestige class are you looking at? that could help a lot in determining if there is a way to get the requirements early. What is your current character? If you are a monk 5, there is probably no way you can get in this class at level 6, but other combinations might be able to. (Archivist might be able to pull it off depending on domains, and paladin/ranger spells learned) Before you counteract naysayers of a prestige class, first make sure it works like you think it does, and second actually let them say nay. Then counter them. A preemptive counter is a little strange. |

| #5selaphielMar 24, 2008 12:46:20 | on the prestige class forums every mentioning of the master of the unseen hand (complete warrior prestige) has been negative, sorry for seeming defensive. Thanks for the jean gray mentioning. And the spell is telekinesis. |
| #6archerpwrMar 24, 2008 12:47:36 | on the prestige class forums every mentioning of the master of the unseen hand (complete warrior prestige) has been negative, sorry for seeming defensive. That's ok. We are CharOp and we are mighty. 50% chance of telepathy. |
| #7KruskMar 24, 2008 14:17:14 | So you need telekenesis by ECL 5, and you need to be able to meet the other requirements. ok. you also need it to be LA 0. That hinders your options a little. My guess on the only option that might exist for this is the archivist (Heroes of Horror). It can gain access to spells much earlier than most other classes. ( I checked through spell compendium domains and ranger/assassin/ect spells and didnt notice it on there.) Does anyone know of a way to get telekenesis as a level 3 spell for any base or prestige class? Does anyone know what the ruling that a wand of telekenisis via UMB as a rogue to enter this class would be? That could get you in, but wouldnt be the most effective method. |
| #8NathreetMar 24, 2008 14:38:10 | A ghost can use telekinesis. LA 5 + base creature. Gave it to you by ECL 6. Your'e welcome. That's a supernatural ability, tho, so it might not qualify you for the prestige class. But besides that I think you're stuck getting to level 9. |
| #9KruskMar 24, 2008 16:45:58 | A ghost can use telekinesis. LA 5 + base creature. Gave it to you by ECL 6. Your'e welcome. it actually specifically says supernatural or spell like abilities will work. |
| #10kanenfawderMar 24, 2008 19:31:38 | Human ghost would give you telekenesis before you took a level of anything. You'd still be 8 ranks of concentration shy of qualifications. So you'd need 5 levels of anything (or 4 levels of... whatever that I can't recall off-hand that lets you have an extra rank in a skill of your... Hell I'm totally drawing blanks. Somebody help me out here). So we're looking at 9 minimum going with ghost. Maybe there's another template or race that gives it? I think it's more likely to find a way to get that 5th level spell earlier than to get the skill points in fewer hit dice. |
| #11selaphielMar 26, 2008 16:52:17 | so, how does the archivist get spells quicker then other classes? ive looked at the heroes of horror and i dont get what your saying. and besides he has divine spells, isnt telekinesis arcane? |
| #12archerpwrMar 26, 2008 16:59:44 | so, how does the archivist get spells quicker then other classes? ive looked at the heroes of horror and i dont get what your saying. Look for the archivist spell list. ... Haven't found it? If they can find a divine spell off any class/domain in scroll form they can get it. Divine bard, druid, paladin, ranger, etc. |
| #13risnerMar 26, 2008 17:44:33 | Is there any way to cast a 5th level spell at a level lower then 9th? The only legal way is to have sufficient levels in a class that grants something other than "-" in the 5th level column. Like for example "0" or "1" or some other number greater than 0. See Complete Arcand p72 for the definition of what it means to be able to cast 5th level spells. A better approach may be to find a class with that spell at lower level and manage to get that spell available. The best way is Archivist for Divine or Anyspell for Arcane. |
| #14awaken_D_M_golemMar 26, 2008 19:04:05 | This is complicated ... You need an Ardent, preferably with Psiotheurgist feat from Dragon #349. You need an Erudite with Spell to Power. You need a DM that understands power research. [edit long story] budda bing, you'll have a few "spells" as powers, a few levels early. Very limited. The other way, is to get either Elocator or Thrallherd with as low an ML as possible. Then take Expanded Knowledge, learning the power via an Erudite with Spell to Power. Entirely DM dependent, even though it's not really DM fiat. Couldn't you just ~find a Candle of Invocation? (groan) |
