| #1sirpercivalOct 10, 2011 19:17:04 | Using 32-point-buy, non-racial ScM, 2 flaws, and LA buyoff, I have: NE Spellwarped Changeling Dual Specialist Wiz 5/Escalation Mage 5/Shadowcraft Mage 5/Recaster 5 Str 8 Dex 10 Con 14 Int 18 Wis 10 Cha 14 Str 12 Dex 12 Con 18 Int 32 Wis 10 Cha 14 (with template, level bumps, int tome +5) Feats: 1 Scribe Scroll (b), Spell Focus: Illusion, Earth Sense (flaw), Heighten Spell (flaw) 3 Extend Spell 6 Earth Spell 9 Improved Familiar 12 Familiar Concentration 15 Maximize Spell? 18 Enhanced Shadow Reality Questions: 1) Feats? I need a crappy metamagic to use with Recaster, so out of Widen, Enlarge, Maximize, and Empower I picked Maximize. 2) What two spells should I grab with Recaster? 3) Banned schools? I thought Conjuration, Evocation, Enchantment. Thank you, CO'ers! |

Obviously I've read that thread since I'm referencing it in the name of my post. Since the character is a changeling I get to do shadowcraft mage (to replicate conjuration) AND specialize in transmutation, so therefore: God. |
| #4dumah87Oct 12, 2011 9:01:42 | IMO 1) empower (+2) is better than maximize(+3), if you don't find a way to reduce the slot cost 2) Revive and Miracle 3) Conjuration is too good, Drop Necromancy |
| #5sirpercivalOct 12, 2011 9:24:14 | Thanks for your response!IMO The whole point is that I'm getting it for free 5/day with recaster. I probably won't use it otherwise. Unless... if the two metamagic feats use the same pool of 5/day then I won't even bother taking a second feat and just use the pool for free extends. 2) Revive and Miracle Can't take Miracle, only up to 8th level. I get a 7th and an 8th. 3) Conjuration is too good, Drop Necromancy Most of the great stuff is covered by Shadow Illusion. What hurts is losing the teleportation subschool stuff, but I do have shadow walk, and I can always shadow-summon a nightmare to astrally project me. Or shapechange into something that can do teleport or plane shift, like a black unicorn, archon, or bebilith. So, options. |
| #6dumah87Oct 12, 2011 9:47:19 | 1) take Maximized and use 5/day for free and extends for preparing spell 2) If you take Recaster at 16th level, you should have 17 CL when you gain Expanded Knowledge, and IIRC all of these prestige classes are Full Casting Prestige classes 3) I know that you can replace almost-all conj-evo spells with Illusion, but besides Teleports & Co, Conjuration is a great no-save battlefield control school (Solid fog, Black tentacles, Stone Wall, etc). With Illusion you offer a Save to disbelief them, am I right? If you can get over this, drop Conjuration. |
| #7sirpercivalOct 12, 2011 9:52:24 | 1) take Maximized and use 5/day for free and extends for preparing spell Sounds good. 2) If you take Recaster at 16th level, you should have 17 CL when you gain Expanded Knowledge, and IIRC all of these prestige classes are Full Casting Prestige classes Recaster loses 1 level at the very beginning, so it would be wizard casting 16 at 17th when I get Expanded Knowledge. Also, it's up to one level below your max. 3) I know that you can replace almost-all conj-evo spells with Illusion, but besides Teleports & Co, Conjuration is a great no-save battlefield control school (Solid fog, Black tentacles, Stone Wall, etc). With Illusion you offer a Save to disbelief them, am I right? So what happens when they disbelieve a Black Tentacles shadow illusion and its reality is >100%? |
| #8dumah87Oct 12, 2011 10:23:01 | 1) good ![]() 2) Expanded Knowledge: At 2nd level, and again at 4th level, choose a spell up to one level lower than the highest-level spell you can cast from any class's spell list. You can add this spell to the spell list of the same arcane spellcasting class to which you added your increased spellcasting ability at that level. So, you have one 7th level spell and one 8th level spell right? I like : Offensive Spell ( Drown, Drd 6; Harm Greater, Clr 7; Moonbolt, Clr 4; Destruction, Clr 7) Defensive/Buff Spell ( Heal, Clr 6; Spell Immunity Greater, Clr 8; Fortunate Fate, Clr 7; Revive Clr 5; GiantBody, Wujen 7) 3) I guess you kick their axe :D (I apologize, I read the spell. I supposed that Disbelief = Negates, while it's not, it's just "affected at X%", isn't?) |
| #9sirpercivalOct 12, 2011 15:04:17 | If I'm banning conjuration I don't think I get to cast Harm or Heal... I picked the L7 one as Brain Spider (mind 7), for roleplay reasons. Another could be Body Outside Body (which I couldn't cast normally, but then since it's on my class list I could replicate it with shadow illusion). What are the fun ways to use BoB? |

Honesty I Don't know. Maybe against a warrior , put the copy around you to intercept blows, kind of Mirror Image... |
