I'm not sure how racial ability mods fit in tho. Do they apply before or after you buy your points? pg. 169 of the DMG doesn't even mention races at all |
| #2deoxhydroxinateJul 04, 2009 19:00:47 | Buy points first, apply racials after. |
| #3zenoguJul 04, 2009 19:11:40 | what's your source? (most likely common sense :P ) anyway, if applied before it's like creating a character with a crutch. Err, scratch that. It's like creating a character requiring a crutch. |
| #4temetnosceJul 04, 2009 19:39:40 | what's your source? (most likely common sense :P ) The PHB? At least that's where it lists the steps of character creation. Which a quick glance shows that you're supposed to roll and assign ability scores before applying racial adjustment, ergo if you replace that with point buy you still need to assign them first. Also, your comparison makes no sense. |
| #5WyvernhandJul 04, 2009 19:40:09 | Um...how about the PHB? Citation from the SRD Ability Modifiers So, you roll or PB your abilities, THEN add/subtract your racials, THEN calculate your ability modifiers. Its probably somewhere else in the PHB that doesn't show up in the SRD, but there it is. |
| #6zenoguJul 04, 2009 21:51:37 | good enough for me! i didn't look in the PHB cuz point-buy is introduced in chapter 6 of the DMG note: as for the comparison, he requires a crutch. He was not necessarily given one :P |
