| #1FalcosOct 29, 2014 20:06:14 | Hi, all! Me again. Hope you're all willing to put up with another thread of rambling to help me with a character! :D
Okay, this character starts as a roleplaying concept: I'm a mage who studied at a Mage Acadamy, and while there, I thought it was stupid that magic-users were all going into combat in only a dress.
I'm currently a Warmage (Planning on PrCing into Rainbow Servant), but I would like to know what other classes people feel fit this concept (and are stronger than Warmage, preferrably). However, the restrictions are that I wish to stay a ranged class (no Duskblade), and that I need to wear armour, as my concept shows. Additionally, the DM has expressed a strong preference for me to stay as one base class and one PrC, no cherrypicking levels from half a dozen classes.
I have, to assign to stats, 18/18/16/15/11/9 (rolled), and the party composition is Paladin, Beguiler, Bard, and me.
The DM is basing his campaign world off of World of Warcraft circa Wrath of the Lich King, so lots of undead and their ilk everywhere.
As a final question, I wish to have race recommendations. I've tentatively pencilled in "Spellscale", but am entirely willing to change that. |

| #3FalcosOct 29, 2014 22:40:42 | Well, I feel I should mention first that those rolls were actually the first rolls, with no rerolls at all. (I linked the DM to your post on my last thread about rerolls).
As for the fistfight, I won, and they're "as written", not "as on table".
The DM is adamant about no multiclassing beyond a single PrC, mainly as he's *fairly* new to DM'ing, and wishes as much simplicity as possible. However, he's said that the next game he runs, he's more open to it, and will take a Holy Fire build if I want to use it (Which I do! That concept is amazing, kudos.)
So my question is now, should I change away from Warmage? We have a Beguiler and I personally dislike class stacking, same answer for Bard, and a Dread Necro is advised against by the DM (he used the analogy "Hitting Thor with lightning bolts"). Additionally, he's warned me away from Spellthief, as stealable spells will be few and far between.
On that tier listing, then, my options are Warmage, Battle Sorcerer, Warlock and Hexblade. You mentioned Battle Sorcerer; is that what you would recommend for this situation? |

That said, I'd say duskblade if you aren't allowed to multiclass. They work for your concept right out of the box.
Warmages are good for 1 reason. Their ability to cheese out rainbow servant for massive utility. Not damage.
Battle sorcerer is good but less "out of the box".
You should also just consider cleric. Because cleric 20 has good blasting, full armor and medium BAB. |
