| #1archersweetNov 07, 2010 12:07:38 | Hey I'm begingin a new campaign where the DM has randomly assigned alignments and will be putting the players in a group togethere with mixed evil and good characters. We will have a common goal however if in character we decide to kill one of the other players we are allowed to. The other rules for creating the character are as follows. 1.No Undead races 2.No Psionic races or classes 3.D&D 3rd ed books only, and no Eberron or D20 books. DM UPDATE no tome of Magic either. 4.Ability scores are rolled, as usual. 4d6, reroll 1s and 2s, keep 3 highest, six times and apply as you like. 5.You will be alotted an amount to buy magic items, but I am not allowing any item that adds to your abilities, aka +4 to Strength, at least at character creation. And I am not allowing any item that gives you a feat for free under any circumstance 6.We start at level 14 I normally just play a character that I think would be fun to play however I also play with a person who min/max's all of his charcters and Want to be able to keep pace with him in this campaign. I am any good aligned for my stats I have an 18,17,17,16,16,15. The Setting is Faerun. If anyone can give me some good builds for characters I would appreciate it. ArcherSweet. |

Casters are more powerful, definitely if you start at that high level. If you're ok with playing a caster, you still can beat people on the head, or summon creatures, or do some battlefield control, or blast, or, or, or.... |
| #3archersweetNov 07, 2010 13:39:06 | I personally have no preference to character role I have played casters, fighters and support. I created the thread to see what ideas other people had for characters that can be overpowered. |
| #4waazraathNov 07, 2010 16:47:17 | Well, in that case, some very basic suggestions would be - druid 20 - wizard 5 / incantatrix 10 / archmage 5 - cleric 3 / binder 1 / anima mage (divine variant) 10 / XXX 6 (divine spellcasting enhancing) |
| #5archersweetNov 07, 2010 17:27:52 | thanks for the idea's my only question is where can I find the Anima Mage divine varian and ive never used any of these forums before so what do you mean by XXX 6? |
| #6danduNov 07, 2010 17:42:13 | Play a Truenamer |
| #7waazraathNov 08, 2010 15:19:06 | thanks for the idea's my only question is where can I find the Anima Mage divine varian and ive never used any of these forums before so what do you mean by XXX 6? Ah, anima mage is from Tome of Magic, it combines soulbinding (ability from that book) with spellcasting and gives some free metamagic. Soulbinding can give a lot of different abilities, if you're really have a lot of time read this (or this), and you only need 1 level of a non-casting class to enter, so you can get up to 19th levels of caster. The prestige class is meant for arcane casters, but under "adaption" it says you can also use it for a divine caster. What I meant with the XXX 6 is "find any prestige class that improves casting and take 6 levels of that". If you seriously want to orientate yourself, just check some other handbooks.... there are 3 real good wizard ones, and also good ones for clerics, druids and almost all (prestige classes), you can find them by google on the class name and then "handbook". gl |
| #8archersweetNov 08, 2010 16:06:54 | Waazraath thanks alot for the help. I have some experience with the game just have never taken the time to look at how certain class combinations can become over powered. I really liked the idea with the anima mage however I found out that my DM is not allowing Tome of Magic. So some of the ideas I would like to try out if your up for continuing to help me with character options is a Divine caster of some kind (have played a druid before dont really want to play another) or possibly a Ranger build of some type. If you have any ideas that could help me there I would appreciate it. Thanks, Archer Sweet |
| #9waazraathNov 08, 2010 17:54:44 | Can't help you with ranger, haven't played many of those... I recently did make some paladin builds, here, if you care for such a divine character, but power level of paladin (and ranger) are really low compared with stuff like wizard, cleric or druid. For a high powered cleric, the obvious route is to use divine meta magic from Complete Divine, and get persistent divine metamagic, with nightsticks, reliquary holy symbol, extra turning, etc. Get buffed all day with divine power, righteous might, etcetera. Some good domains are planning (gives extend spell), time, undead (gives extra turning) and spell. There are plenty of good prestige classes, ordained champion (looses casterlevels but very good abilities), contemplative (free domain at 1st level), etc. Again, check the handbook for (much) more advice. |
| #10archersweetNov 08, 2010 18:26:41 | Cool thanks for the ideas i will be looking in to it I have untill the 22 to get my character created. |
| #11phaedrusxyNov 08, 2010 21:41:10 | At 14th level, an Ur-Priest can have 9th level cleric spells. Here is a character build you could add onto: tsuyoshikentsu.pbworks.com/w/page/111147... |
| #12archersweetNov 08, 2010 22:15:05 | Thanks for the idea Phaedrus but we had to randomly draw alignment and I drew Good unfortunately so an evil prestige class wont work. if you have any other ideas im open for pretty much anything. A few of the house rules are no flaws, no tome of magic, no regions, no d20 books only 3rd and 3.3ed. if you can provide any help with those restrictions that would be awesome. |
