I'm looking for some opinions about a possible Hexblade houserule. Hexblade's curse is pretty neat, but it is pretty limited, since you can only use it a paltry few times per day. Given that the save DC is not guaranteed to work, and most characters have 4-5 combats per day, each with several foes, that's not awfully useful.

So, what about changing the rule so that the curse is used N/encounter instead of N/day? It doesn't seem too oooober, but it seems like some love for a class that is usually used as a dip.

Yeah, that's okay. It's not like that change would make Hexblade superpowerful.

I'm sure that would be fine. Mike Mearls made some suggestions for beefing up the Hexblade that go alot further than that. He suggested the following:

* Good Fortitude save
* Curse ability usable 1 + the hexblade's Cha modifier per day
* Curse ability usable as a swift action
* Curse ability does not count as used if the target makes his saving throw
* Ability to cast in light or medium armor and while carrying a light shield or buckler
* At 6th level, the hexblade can cast one hexblade spell per day as a swift action, as long as its original casting time is a standard action or faster. He gains an additional use of this power at levels 8, 11, 14, and 18.

Isn't the curse already a free action?

Yeah. I think they'd already said in an Errata that it was only useable once per round. So making it a Swift action instead is actually a slight nerf.
